Genius is often defined in myriad ways. One trusted criterion is the ability to do something extraordinary in a field where others could not--and doing something that perhaps will never be done again by anyone else.(Snip)Yet ultimately his audience listened because he differentiated between two worlds. On one hand, he saw, with a skeptic’s eye, the cosmos of progressive and liberal translators who selectively edit the day’s events and massage their supposed importance to Americans, to present the news in line with liberals’ preconceived agendas--under the guise that such reporting was beyond reproach as professional, disinterested, and entirely based in facts. Limbaugh exploded all those pretenses.

Thank you, OP, from one Genius, VDH, about another, Rush.
Only disagree with one sentence from fellow farmer, VDH:
“Once he [Rush] became a national force, hundreds of others became far more effective conservative local and regional voices, partly through the art of emulation, partly through scheduling to lead in to or follow Limbaugh’s daily three-hour show, partly in the general renewed public interest in talk radio itself. [...can’t name a local or regional host who became ‘far more effective’... maybe almost...but open to any names.]
Rush shared one day, how his prior ‘radio/ jockey’ experience taught him the value of local and national sponsors, which was the key to his success in fighting initial left oppression... He taught us then the value of the trenches and doing our ‘homework.’
BUT, most importantly, his ‘talent on loan from God,’ gave Almighty God the credit...
Thank you, el Rushbo, continued prayers for total healing, by God’s grace.

For me, it was when the government burned down the Waco compound. My usual commute radio station, NPR, was only saying how right it was that Clinton did this. My head was exploding: how could our government intentionally kill presumed innocent men, women, and children and people think it's o.k.? Then I listened to Rush and he got it. I was hooked. He can be pompous and maddeningly repetitive, but he gets it...and sometimes I just need to know I'm not alone out here, loving my country and her founding documents.

Requires subscription after one has used all freebies. If Rush sustained Conservatism and carried the baton on the leg between Reagan and Trump, then "well done, My good and faithful servant."

Wonderful essay, a genuine tribute to El Rushbo. You can always count on VDH to step up and deliver.
May God in His infinite mercy allow us to keep this great man with us for a while longer. He (with a capital "H") knows how much we love and need him.

I used to listen to Paul Harvey and his mild conservatism was my “15 minutes of sanity” as I called it. Then Rush came along and conservatives got a voice! Three hours a day that reaches into every corner of the country, especially fly-over country.. Thank you forever, Rush.

VDH at his best.
Well said, sir. Rush is a national treasure, truly deserves his Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Long may Rush sit behind the golden RIB microphone, operating his Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies.

Rush continues to view America through the prism of Greek and Roman politics. He has been proven right most of the times because he understands that history rhymes. A great National Treasure.

This is a fitting tribute to a man who has held high the banner of conservatism for so many of us and for so long. He gave us the knowledge that we were not alone and that out thinking was right on, right on, right on. God bless Rush as he steps up as a warrior against the horrific disease of cancer. Many many prayers are being offered on his behalf and he has the love and support of conservatives not only here but around the globe. May he come back from this stronger than ever.

If it's any consolation, #10- Victor David Hanson has proven himself to be a 'must read' wherever you will find him.

#3, Rush is not pompous - it’s all part of his shtick. He’s one of the most humble people on earth - which is exactly why he says that he has “talent on loan for God”.

VDH at his best! This is much better than the Must Reads of the Day, NH is an insignificant state. There are many take aways from Mr. Hanson's article, here is one: "His forte {Rush's} was explaining why nominal conservatives were infected with a fatal virus of wanting to be liked by the “mainstream media” and the cultural elite — and thus often “grew” in office, moving leftward, as if they had become smarter and more sophisticated than those who had voted for them." I don't think Nunes could have held on without understanding this Rush concept.

Rush Limbaugh has not hesitated to address issues and events with clarity and purpose for which American conservatives are profoundly grateful. “Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” (Theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer) Indeed, Rush Limbaugh uses his “talent on loan from God” most effectively and wonderfully. Thank you, Rush. Keeping you in loving thoughts and prayers.
