It’s a tribute to the great Rush Limbaugh that the reaction to his cancer diagnosis by the tens of millions of people he inspired was not to be devastated but to focus and to resolutely offer their thoughts and prayers in his fight. And he will fight – he’ll fight this like he has fought everything and everyone else that tried to take him out over the last third of a century. He is the archetypal conservative brawler, a no-apologies, no-excuses conservative who never submitted, never allowed himself to be domesticated and neutered by the elite.

I certainly hope Rush has more years to go but I am curious to know who ldotters think would be the best replacement for the irreplaceable. Who should take over. I enjoy Mark Steyn but he can be a little flip and Rush is always more serious and I don't know if Steyn really has his fingers on the American pulse. So who, ldotters?

I am shocked by the news of Rush Limbaugh's diagnosis. A very dear friend of mine died last year of lung cancer. I miss him, but Rush is a national icon. I hope he survives, America needs him. God, watch over him. The mold was broken after he was born. There wil not be another Rush Limbaugh to fill his shoes. This is a tragedy. Pelsosi just commited an outrageous action by tearing up the speech. She needs to be heavily censured and removed from office. The election is one way, her party, sick as they are, is another. The grim reaper is the next. She has no integrity. Never did.

This is comparing diamonds to hubcaps, I know, but when goofyass Keith Moon tipped into oblivion The Who actually considered replacing him with two drummers. Didn't happen, obviously -- they replaced Moon with a human metronome -- but the point was made.
Nobody will replace Rush so forget about that. A few radio guys might, working together, fill the gap but they will forever be guest hosts.
We've all just graduated from the Limbaugh University. We honor him by carrying on. This is what Rush wants.

Great essay, Kurt. This is from a retired Army officer who has followed Rush for more than thirty years. P.S. I've read your books. Kudos!
Prayers are going up and continue for Rush and for the doctors who are caring for him.

Rush caused me to think, not feel. That changed my entire view of life. Thank you Rush.

The genius of Rush is made clear in his ability to keep and hold excellent staff members. He gently and persuasively mixes new callers and those who have called before. He does not have to do the Mark Levin thing ("get off the phone, you big dope"). Instead he educates.
His Rush Revere series was pure genius. He got out of TV when he found out what the risk/reward ratio was.
He is easy to listen to; he does not shoot off his mouth and insult people. Rush is the epitome of a gentleman.
His ability to marshal facts is unparalleled. You want proof of what he says? Go to the stack of stuff.
You want to learn from failure? Study Rush. He failed lots of times.
He overcame his hearing problem. More than likely, he will overcome the lung cancer.
And the best thing is that he has inspired a generation of conservatives to follow his path: too many to list here.

I've been humming the old "Thank the Lord (Rush Limbaugh's on)" song from the Rush Hawkins Singers all day,

I, too, was moved more deeply into conservatism by listening to Rush.
As an arbitrator of three decades duration, I spent many miles driving to and from my hearings, often in a distant small town. I even heard a case in Possum Trot, Kentucky, which is located in the middle of nowhere.
But wherever I was driving, in every state I traversed, I always was able to find Rush on the car radio. He was able to educate me - a Ph.D. who knew everything.
He really is a national treasure, and I will join in the prayers for his full recovery.

#13: Based on what Rush says, he doesn't want to retire. He's doing what he loves every day. Of course, if his treatments become too demanding, he may have to.

As an ex-Canadian I can now say that Rush probably had a lot to do with my citizenship. He has the extraordinary ability to explain constitutional principles to the uninitiated.. Harvard law can't do that. He was the ORIGINAL unless I'm wrong, Global warming skeptic. MIT can't do that. And he was entertaining in the process. Hillary can't do that.
Had his faults, don't we all. Praying for you sir.

No one can reproduce the combination of bold confidence and sincere humility for which Rush is known.
No one else can combine such a superior intellect with the down-to-earth non-degreed common sense.
No one else combines humor and politics to be both entertaining and educational.
No one else can put a difficult concept in a concise package on the bottom shelf so that anyone can understand.
Rush has been an educator, and his students will carry his message forward. We can only hope that some of the graduates from the Limbaugh Institute for Conservative Studies will carry on his tradition and make him proud.
No one can replace Rush, or Billy Graham or Elvis or my grandmother. They are irreplacable.

Saw a cartoon once. 3 plates of beans on a raft in the ocean. 2 guys on the raft and on in the water.Shark and guy in water circling raft. Guys on raft dividing up third plate of beans. Don't sweat Rush's replacement. That's fortunately up to Rush. I think he'll make a good pick.

This is a good, thoughtful article. For us, Schlichter's experience of thinking we were the only conservatives out here before Rush came along and expressed our views on his EIB, applied to us as well. Most Americans were being totally ignored, marginalized and lampooned by the lefties and their pop culture, which had increasingly been feeding the public leftist propaganda, while Americans who love this country and its Constitution simply had no voice at all.
We can never thank Rush enough for dedicating himself and his wisdom to providing truth and political insight through his excellent, daily radio program! He brought the unimaginable events of the past 50 years into focus and, indeed, all American history, in an understandable way for all to hear with good will & a dash of humor. Rush eloquently expresses what Americans already think and know. W ell done, Rush.
The dems and their entire media never understood his attraction for Americans like us because the dem pols after the 1960's chose the road to the left and now seem to have gone full radical into decadance & decay as the cities & states dems lead saddly exhibit.

I remember exactly when and where I first heard Rush Limbaugh. I was riding with my father to Clarke's Gun Shop (and range) in Warrenton, Va. in the late 80s, IIRC it was on WMAL. My father said, "Hey, you have to listen to this guy, he's GREAT!" And I remember laughing out loud about Rush calling them "feminazis".
I really hope, and will pray for his recovery from this. He has done a LOT of good for this country.
