The Minnesota Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled in favor of a Minneapolis ordinance establishing a $15 minimum wage for the city.
The high court's opinion, written by Chief Justice Lorie Skjerven Gildea, states that by complying with the Minneapolis ordinance, employers are not in violation of the Minnesota Fair Labor Standards Act, and therefore the ordinance is compatible with state statutes.(snip) Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement. “Today’s ruling affirms the right to a living wage for thousands of workers and cements Minneapolis’ status as a city willing to fight for inclusive economic policies.

The ruling is correct. There is no state law that says Minneapolis can't set a higher minimum wage. The state could pass such a law if they wish, otherwise, Minneapolis can set it as high as it wants. Also, Minneapolis should be able to have a higher minimum than say Lake Elmo.

What's the minimum wage in St. Paul? This could be an interesting lesson in economics.

A "living wage" is not a RIGHT! It's an individual economic choice. My way or the highway and nobody's FORCING anybody to work for anything less than $15.00 an hour. Sooner or later, a legalized gangsters(unions) will move in to unionize the hamburger flippers.

It's called 'Sawing the Bottom Rungs Off the Economic Ladder.'
If someone does not have the education, experience, or ability to do a job that is worth $15 an hour...... they get NO job.
They remain Unemployable.
And..... as the old saying goes....."Idle Hands are the Devil's Playthings."

I’m sure if businesses having problems with the law can have the judges or some politicians come in and give them some advice in how to run their businesses and still be able to make a profit.

So let’s outlaw $14 an hour jobs, and flood the country with paid-under-the-table illegals. What could possibly go wrong?

In 6 months, when lots of former minimum wage earners are out of work, and many more have had their hours cut back pretty drastically, I'm sure they will be "shocked" and blame it all on President Trump's economic policies (that just happen to be working wonderfully everywhere else).
You can never accuse lie-berals of applying logic, reason, or facts to anything!!!! All they understand is feelings, and it will just "feel" like it must be President Trump's fault!!!!!

I just read that minimum wage in 1940 was 30 cents an hour. Of course bread was 10 cents a loaf back then. Wonder what the breakdown would be comparing $15/hr buying power against 30 cents an hour back then?

Actually, #3, "Minneapolis's" is correct, as it is a singular possessive. A singular word ending in S is not treated the same as a plural possessive. https://www.dailywritingtips.com/possessive-of-proper-names-ending-in-s/

I could have made the equivalent in HS at a grocery store in 1971? Sign me up! New Corvette, dames hanging off my arm! Cash to burn! I worked minimum wage as a student to learn how to work...it was never meant to be a lifetime career for me! Nothing wrong with that, by the way if you like it and I loved working in a Grocery Store!

this should, with any luck, be the death knell for Mogadapolis.. NO ONE in their right mind will keep their business there, much less start a new one.. Boy Mayor, Jake Frey of NYC will probably be replaced by a somali next election.. Omar, anyone?
