An Oregon FBI field office is warning that hackers could use smart televisions to spy or cyber-stalk, encouraging users to up their security around the devices.
“Beyond the risk that your TV manufacturer and app developers may be listening and watching you, that television can also be a gateway for hackers to come into your home,” the Portland, Oregon FBI office said Tuesday in a report.

But the smart phones, refrigerators, home security systems, lights, etc., etc., etc. are all fine and dandy! Nope, no problems there!

If this is just now coming to your attention, you are seriously behind the curve.. Do they think that computer monitors aren't similarly equipped? Siri? Alexa?

Yeah. And Adam Schiff has already requested your "Smart TV" records from your internet/cable provider.

Most wireless routers have Firewalls and VPNs that can be enabled if you want. Since everything in the house goes through that router this fear should be greatly reduced... if you're still worried, simply take a piece of electrician tape and cover the camera hole.

I'll just ask my new Alexa to cover up the camera on my spying TV.
Good to know the FBI is right on the ball. This has been an issue for years with some TVs

If the Government wants to watch me sit on the couch and eat Cheesy Poofs, so be it. The fact of the matter is I don't own, nor intend to purchase, any of these gizmos anyway.

If I had an interesting life with lots of money, I would care. But my life is boring, I think I invented being a couch potato, and I'm a poor old lady, so watch or listen away./s On the serious side, this is scary and hopefully someone will address this issue before it's too late to fix it.

Just never hook up your smart tv to the internet. Try living without streaming or gaming.

First the TV was spying, then the fridge, then Siri..... now it’s Schiff.

Winston Smith had it easier with his telescreen in 1984. We are inviting hackers and others into our homes with these "smart" devices, without apparent warning nor firewalls to stop these listening and viewing intrusions on our privacy. This isn't tinfoil hat stuff anymore. Still, I can't imagine our government doing this without a proper warrant...can you?
