A viral video published by Deseret Sun photojournalist J. Omar Ornelas shows two men using a ladder to defeat the replacement border fence that President Donald Trump said “can’t be climbed.” In September, Trump visited the Otay Mesa border site to extol the virtues of the replacement barrier that’s being installed there, and went on an extended riff about how difficult the fence would be to climb. Trump said the wall had been tested by “world-class mountain climbers,” and referenced “pictures of young people climbing walls with drugs on their back--a lot of drugs.”
The Great Wall didn't keep the Mongols out of China. Hadrian's wall didn't keep the Celts out of Roman England. The Maginot line didn't keep the Germans out of France.
Walls are just piece of the solution. It certainly slows them down and makes it more difficult, but enforcement on the other side will always be essential.

We need to secure the border regardless of the cost. Nothing should be off the table.

There is no wall that can't be broached, even if you put a million volts of electricity through it. People even got past the Berlin wall, during the cold war, which was protected by soldiers with guns, watchtowers, minefields, floodlights, and all the rest. President Trump is aware of that and I think he was taken out of context (what else is new?)
However, you can build a wall that can't be easily broached without detection, as this video shows. I think that was the meaning of what the President said. When someone climbs over it, they will be detected and responded to. The net effect is that a successful penetration is foiled. Nothing is perfect and anyone who claims that is reason to dismiss it, or criticize the President is being unreasonable (again, what else is new?)

Well- dually noted.. and discovered.. now what? We let them saunter in? No.. We pick up on our side, and let law of drug smuggling or human trafficking take hold.. reducing rate of crossing makes the ability of Border Patrol so much more efficient.

You can climb over the Empire State Building if you have a ladder long enough. Security experts know that and is why a borderline barrier (Wall) to be effective must be under electronic surveillance 24/7 so that the Border Patrol can immediately respond and catch anyone who climbs over that barrier. Remember the vast majority of illegal aliens now crossing the insecure US borderline do not have access to such ladders and simple walk across, with some backpacking large amounts of illicit narcotics, into the USA. It is common sense that the supporters of mass illegal immigration and the Mexican drug cartels would not be going out of their way putting articles like this in the news papers to influence public opinion against an effective borderline barrier, if they did not think that properly maintained borderline barriers would not be effective to stop a large percentage of the smuggling that has been historically taking place along the currently still insecure borderline.

So two people carry and extension ladder to prop up against the wall, climb to the top, pull the ladder up and try to let it down on the other side. If the ladder falls over they are either stuck on the top, or risk breaking both legs jumping down. Because the ladder has to be moved from one side to the other, this would stop large groups from attempting this maneuver.
Note to Mexican Security Forces: If you see two guys carrying a ladder in the direction of the wall, if they don't have paint and brushes with them, confiscate ladder and arrest them.

I watched the video. There were three guys (not two), and only one got over. The second disconnected the chain ladder and slid down. Why not go over? Was it because the border security guys were arresting the first guy? That's what it looked like to me.
If nothing else, large numbers of people could not perform this maneuver.

Well that sure would still cut a lot of people out of the equation not to mention curtail child trafficking.
There sure was an easy target presented for considerable time now wasn't there. We need to squeeze off a few to enhance the effectiveness.

Instead of shooting this violation of our National Defense system with a video camera, use a Department of Defense device that has been proven effective for centuries. Problem solved

Post our soldiers on the border with machine guns and orders to shoot. You would only have to shoot a few and word would spread fast. I know lots of pussies dont like this idea but this is war and we are being invaded. STOP BEING SO NICE TO THE ENEMY.

This is ridiculous. The wall will not keep everyone out. But stop and think how many who have invaded our country in the last year or so will be bringing ladders or any other devices with them. Look again at those families, the infirm, the aged, the mothers with children and babies…
The point was to (1) deter, (2) make it difficult to climb, (3)slow down anyone who might try some device like a ladder … human apprehension will still be required.

LOL well it didn't take much for the smelly Mediaite and Tommy to give up. Good to know that they love being invaded.
If only every criminal could stop by their place and wipe them out or just squat for a couple of years. THEN maybe they would get behind enforcing our borders and filtering out scum, criminals and freeloaders who can't be bothered by following the rules.

DUH! Well OF COURSE you can go over with a ladder. What sort of an idiot doesn't instantly see this??? How is this news?
But ladders are expensive and not easy to haul around, especially inconspicuously, so the wall is still far, far better.
Maybe we should just start shooting ladder carrying people near the border.

40 grains of lead traveling about 2200 fps to one or two of these climbers should deter a lot of those thinking about trying.

The important things to note here are
1) There will be no more pregnant mamacitas climbing over for birthright immigration
2) Drugs by the ton won't be brought over that wall so easily
3) By the time they get three MS-13 terrorists inside the border the ICE cops will be swarming them

Well the Border Patrol could string a cable along the top of the borderline barrier with signs that say “Danger 11,000 volts” in English and Spanish. Who is going to test it?

Mediate can go rot. They climbed a ladder, not the wall. Mediate knows that, but would rather twist the truth. The wall is stopping most migrants. The wall is doing its job.

I'm a big supporter of 'the wall', even in the mediocre form that is under construction now. But anyone who ever thought that by itself would be insurmountable was foolish. The wall just slows them down a bit.
You gotta make it hurt to get across to stop the slightly determined, and you gotta make it deadly to cross to stop the moderately determined.
Unfortunately I don't think even President Trump wants to go that far, and for sure 100% of the Democrats and 85% of the republicans in the Legislative branch would throw a hissy fit if it was made to be even merely painful, much less deadly. And 100% of the Supreme Court would argue against making it deadly to cross. And every 0@#^ ambulance chasing lawyer in the world would be at the border if people were regularly so much as chipping a fingernail in coming across.
Other than a few of us "Radical Racist Nationalists", no one has the will to actually secure our borders from the invaders.

The very first thing that you learn about any barrier in warfare is that the barrier must be covered by gunfire or artillery fire with an observer to remain effective for more than a very short time.
Put signs on the wall in Spanish...."Anyone who climbs this wall will be SHOT." Pretty simple. Sensors or observers spot folks climbing and either a few mortar rounds are dropped on the site, or a sniper is moved to a predefined location which overlooks the site, and the problem is solved. Buzzards and coyotes gotta eat, too.

So disappointing to see this. The video shows a ladder was used to assist the climb--next may come grappling hooks.
