'These kids have all vaped':
Wisconsin doctors were first to warn
of a sudden surge of mystery lung illnesses

It was June 11 when a teenager showed up at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin short of breath. He had lost a lot of weight, was fatigued and couldn't do routine activities. A chest X-ray showed something doctors found odd: interstitial pneumonia. Unlike the more common viral or bacterial pneumonia that infects one or two of the lungs’ five lobes, interstitial pneumonia looks like a complex spider web crisscrossing the entire lung. “It's usually associated with bad disease,” said Michael Meyer, medical director of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit.

Comments:

I am not a vaper or smoker, never have been, but this campaign is a classic example to taking anecdotal "proof" to the point of government intervention. Vaping is nothing new. Now these cases. Why? Even the reporters admit, "It's still unclear exactly what is causing the outbreak of severe lung damage." The blame may lie in using THC vape cartridges, which are illegal in Wisconsin.

Interesting how the media is concerned about vaping while they support the rush to the legalization of the inhalant marijuana.

My thoughts exactly #1. If inhaling water vapor with some additives is bad for you, how much worse is actually inhaling smoke from a fire? There is a reason your initial reaction when first exposed to any kind of smoke is to cough. The lungs don't like stuff like that.

Crowder has a good video on this. Nobody has died from just vaping, they are vaping drug oil, to which things have been added. I think the main one was vitamin A. See the video. First it was the "exploding batteries", now this.

When I worked at the cosmetics counter of a department store I was warned about mixing two different products on anyone's skin. The teacher showed us why in our hands. One moisturizer and another company's serum treatments could result in a lot of heat produced. A LOT of heat. Vapping involves oils. Then the vapper adds pot iols to the vaper. Then his lungs get scored with damage. And they wonder why. High school chemistry, is it still being taught?

I don’t keep myself informed about vaping. I know only that it’s supposedly safer than cigarettes which obviously is not the case. A useless habit.

FTA: And the only tie they could find was that all the patients had reported recently vaping nicotine or THC or both. First of all, it WAS both. And they weren't 'casual' vapers... they were sucking on those sticks as if to save their lives. The Feds collect $1.01/pack of cigarettes in taxes. States, on average, collect $1.69/pack. The feds have no tax on vaping and only 11 states do. Why the big uproar about people abusing their vaping equipment with marijuana oils? Can you ask 'Cui bono'? I knew you could.

"Think with a scarcity mindset." That was the advice Lilliann M. Paine of UW-Extension Milwaukee County gave participants in a poverty simulation workshop, "Just Neighbors." Paine and Amanda Kostman of UW-Extension Walworth County arranged the workshop to help participants understand the challenges of poverty. The workshop was one of several opportunities participants had to see how poverty and trauma interacted at the two-day 2019 Summit on Poverty and SWIM Conference, hosted by the Social Development Commission, Marquette University and Scaling Wellness in Milwaukee (SWIM).

The White House announced late Sunday that Turkey will soon move forward with a planned military operation in northeast Syria, as U.S. troops who have been deployed and operating with Kurdish-led forces in the area began pulling back from their positions. The decision sent shockwaves through the region and Washington, with U.S. officials telling Fox News that top Pentagon officials were “completely blindsided” and “shocked” by the order to pull back hundreds of U.S. troops, a move that effectively green-lights the Turkey operation.

A deeply divided Supreme Court ruled Thursday that federal courts may not intervene to block even the most partisan election maps drawn by state lawmakers, a decision that allows such gerrymandering to continue unabated. The 5-4 opinion by Chief Justice John Roberts and joined by the court's other conservatives said partisan election maps drawn by North Carolina Republicans and Maryland Democrats are constitutional despite their one-sided nature.

Michigan Rep. Justin Amash became the first Republican lawmaker to declare that President Donald Trump committed impeachable offenses and that Attorney General William Barr “deliberately misrepresented” special counsel Robert Mueller’s report. Amash, whose libertarian views often put him at odds with Trump and his fellow Republicans, posted a series of tweets Saturday afternoon outlining positions that even some Democrats have been unwilling to embrace — an extraordinary development that comes as Democratic leaders face increasing pressure from progressives to launch impeachment proceedings.

One of the factors that has kept Bob Uecker in the radio booth for the Milwaukee Brewers well into his 80s is the manner in which players have treated him as one of their own. But, when the players put their money where their mouths were last November, it stunned Uecker, moving him to the brink of tears. When deciding who would get full playoff shares after the Brewers advanced within one game of the World Series, the players voted to give one to Uecker, which was worth $123,000.

Pope Francis urged South American bishops gathered at the Vatican on Monday to "speak with courage" as they address a severe priest shortage in remote areas of the region that could result in the church dropping celibacy requirements for some priests. The three-week Synod of Bishops for the Amazon also will address crucial regional topics ranging from protection of rainforests and local cultures to climate change, migration and clean water. "We have not come here to invent programs of social development or custody of cultures," the pope said. "We come to contemplate, to understand, to serve the peoples." Cardinal Claudio

New evidence emerged Monday that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has been untruthful in telling voters she was fired from a teaching job because she was “visibly pregnant.” As Breitbart News noted Sunday, Warren’s campaign tale was called into question by a 2007 interview in which she suggested she left for lack of qualifications and interest. County records published by the Washington Free Beacon on Monday confirm that Warren resigned and was never fired. The Free Beacon’s Collin Anderson reported: RIVERDALE, N.J.—The Riverdale Board of Education approved a second-year teaching contract for a young Elizabeth Warren, documents show, contradicting the Democratic presidential candidate’s repeated claims that she
