Congress needs to learn to do a better job of writing laws. That’s my conclusion after reviewing the legal debate over whether the Supreme Court should renounce the Chevron doctrine it unanimously promulgated (with three justices not participating) back in 1984. What is the Chevron doctrine, and why does it matter? It arose out of a Clean Air Act case, and it hinged on whether the Court must accept a regulatory agency’s interpretation of an ambiguous statute passed by Congress. The court said that yes, it must. A pedestrian was seriously injured early Saturday when she was struck by a car driven by a man who was drunk, using his cell phone and had no license, authorities said. The subpoena was first reported by The New York Times. It isn't clear what deadline Mazars USA has to comply with the grand jury subpoena. Every candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination, for example, has echoed the familiar refrain that the number of mass shootings is on the rise and that more stringent federal laws regulating the sale of firearms will ameliorate the “crisis of gun violence.” The problem with these claims is that mass shootings are not increasing in frequency. Nor is there any objective evidence that new gun control laws would reduce their number.
