Mayor de Blasio insists he’s not the Don Quixote of the Democratic party as he pushes on with a White House campaign that is stuck in neutral — or even rolling in reverse. Despite an endless stream of bad news, de Blasio refuses to pull the plug on a laughingstock campaign that rarely cracks 0% in polls and is dogged by unfavorability numbers that are actually rising as he introduces himself to the nation. Stronger candidates such as Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) have already accepted reality and dropped out. But Hizzoner was back in South Carolina on Saturday schmoozing with

Earlier this week, a math puzzle that had stumped mathematicians for decades was finally solved. It’s called a Diophantine Equation, and it’s sometimes known as the “summing of three cubes”: Find x, y, and z such that x³+y³+z³=k, for each k from 1 to 100. On the surface, it seems easy. Can you think of the integers for x, y, and z so that x³+y³+z³=8? Sure. One answer is x = 1, y = -1, and z = 2. But what about the integers for x, y, and z so that x³+y³+z³=42? That turned out to be much harder—as in, no one was able to solve

Asked recently why he was running for president, Joe Biden insisted to a reporter that burning ambition was not the reason. “Could I die happily not having heard ‘Hail to the Chief’ play for me?” Biden asked, then answered his own question by saying, “Yeah, I could.” That’s good to know because it will make the next step easier. It’s the step where Biden announces he’s withdrawing from the race. Yes, yes, I’m aware that he’s the front-runner for the Democrats’ nomination and that front-runners never exit voluntarily. But I’m also aware that Biden knows something else, too: that growing concerns about his mental and physical capacity are legitimate.

Other than that, it's a great place to live. The state of Illinois has its own financial troubles, so the city can expect little or no help there. And good luck getting a federal bailout through the GOP Senate and signed by a president who's been called a "racist" by the mayor.

Recently, I covered Jerry Nadler’s House Judiciary Committee passing rules for an “impeachment inquiry.” As some of us have speculated for months now, this was simply an attempt at stealth impeachment, i.e. getting to use the benefits of impeachment (grand jury access, increased subpoena power, etc.) without having too actually pass articles of impeachment. The game in this case is that Nadler wants to pretend he’s emperor with no guidelines while not having to pay the political price of having House Democrats actually vote as a majority to impeach.
