The federal government will resume executing death-row inmates after nearly two decades without doing so, the Department of Justice announced on Thursday. Attorney General William Barr directed the Bureau of Prisons to schedule the executions of five inmates convicted of murder and other crimes. The executions have been scheduled for December 2019 and January 2020. The last federal execution was carried out in 2003. There are 62 individuals on federal death row, according to a tracker maintained by the Death Penalty Information Center.

Now that has to give a few the shivers!
Barr is taking hold and not messing about… Even those in Washington who aren’t capital-offense criminals have to be shaking a little at this announcement, which is an indication that he will be cleaning up serious old business...

There's a link to the DOJ announcement that contains a brief synopsis of each perp's crime(s). They are definitely a depraved bunch. One raped and tortured his own 2 year old child. Good riddance to them all.

My view is the death penalty should only be used for the most egregious and heinous crimes.
And, we, the people, better be absolutely sure the person did it (i.e. Dahlmer, Bundy).
If any possible doubt, run the DNA evidence, whatever, just make sure you have it correct.
This is not a deterrent, but the ultimate price you pay for certain crimes.

The last fed execution I recall was Timothy McVeigh in 2001. Only because every news outlet on the planet was covering it.

Fox.com includes brief descriptions of the crimes, no surprise an NBC outlet leaves that out of the report.

This will bring out the death penalty protesters. They don't want to see anyone put to death unless it is an unborn child.

I'm with #4. It should only be carried out if it is an absolute certainty. Once done there is no way to correct a mistake.
No matter what, the Clintons should be shaking in their boots.

#4 Once its implemented the death penalty its a 100% effective deterrent to recidivism.

I have actually seen a couple of these cases on episodes of some of the reality shows I watch. The Purkey case in Missouri was exceptionally monstrous. He defines monster, and I will be glad when the child murdering evil savage is gone from this world.

I'll wait and see. This move will give rise to all the anti-death orgs bring lawsuits to stop it. So it is unlikely that there will be any executions in Dec/Jan. The timing on this is interesting. Here we are at the pre-stage to the 2020 elections and this will have an impact. is this what president Trump wants dealt with now or was he even consulted? There just not enough info to determine which way the wind is blowing on this one.

I like the "electric bleachers" comment.
A good sized room with say 20 seats, bolted to the floor, with proper restraints, then fill it with nitrogen and wait about 20 minutes. Zero pain, zero distress, clean, not a mark on the body. Nitrogen is not toxic, as long as you have 21% oxygen in it, like all normal air (78% nitrogen).
A coworker accidentally crawled into a nitrogen purged space, and fortunately a co-worker outside
pulled him out when he became unresponsive, into normal air, where he quickly revived. I asked him about the experience. He said it was "like a light switch being turned off", and upon further questioning, said that there was not the slightest hint of anything being wrong.
Perfect to defang all the "cruel and unusual" arguments, and save a bunch of money. No really complex "gas chamber" needed since it is OK if some leaks out.
