Democratic presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke on Monday proposed taxing affluent American families who do not have members in the U.S. military as a way to fund healthcare for veterans. The former congressman from Texas unveiled a plan for military veterans that includes a "war tax," in which taxpayers who earn over $200,000 a year would pay $1,000 in a new tax for each war embarked on by the United States. O'Rourke, who did not serve in the military but sat on the House of Representatives Armed Services and Veterans' Affairs committees, said the tax would be levied on households without

This clown is really off his rocker. Proposal would undoubtedly be unconstitutional on many grounds.

Hey Bob. National defense is and always has been the #1 priority of the Federal government. The Feds tax 17% of GDP, up from 8% before WWII. Why don't you figure out why we have been on a WWII war footing spending spree in perpetuity and get back to us before asking for more money. And before you waste time blaming it on perpetual war, please prepare your proportionality comparison. Classic government malfeasance. Spend on BS then come asking for more with a sob story about top priorities not being addressed. Then Bob, we can have the discussion about how any attempt to squeeze more out of us will result in less. You see Bob, since we maxed out at 17% when we turn the knob up on taxes the the flow of money declines due to economic contraction. When we dial back the money flows in more. You want more turn the knob to the left. Sure at some point as you keep turning you'll pass the point of maximum return but we haven't seen that in so long we have no idea where that is anymore.

Gotta love the Dims.... no one is as good as thinking INSIDE the box than they are. Their solution ti every problem is to create a tax or raise a tax. They're one trick ponies. And I'm guessing there will be loopholes galore to allow people like Beto and cronies to avoid paying it. Besides many families who make 200,000 a year may not consider themselves affluent if they have a number of kids to support and put through school.

Not that we have word of any openings coming up on the Supreme Court in the immediate future, but it always pays to be prepared, right? Particularly when you have several justices in their septuagenarian or even octagenarian years and one of them regularly talks about packing up his RV and touring the country. But given the politically poisonous mood currently gripping both Congress and the nation, would President Trump really want to open that can of worms and introduce a new nominee if someone suddenly retired? Oh, baby… you know he’s champing at the bit. (The Hill) President Trump

Climate change is threatening ancient Greek monuments, among them the Acropolis, one of the most-visited archaeological sites in the world, scientists said. Air pollution and acid rain are eroding marbles, while extreme weather phenomena such as droughts or torrential rains have led ancient walls and temples to develop structural problems. Even though the Acropolis hill, where the Parthenon stands, is probably Greece's best preserved archaeological site, there are signs that climate change has been increasingly affecting the monuments that stand on the hill.
