Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tex, seemed as surprised as everyone else when he admitted he agreed with a proposal put forward by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY.
The duo found common ground after the New York Democrat called for a ban on lawmakers becoming lobbyists. Ocasio-Cortez got the ball rolling on Twitter, reacting to a statistic that shows 60 percent of former congressmen from the 115th Congress received jobs as lobbyists or federal policy influencers, something she disapproved.

I agree, but it is just election gum flapping. If such a law were to pass, the congress crooks would simply find a way to circumvent it. They probably wouldn't even vote for it unless loopholes were built in from the start.
They are not going to kill their cash cow.

No problem. They do most of their stealing while they are in office anyway - particularly if they are there for 50 years or so.

I think there was a law, years ago, restricting public officials from becoming lobbyists after leaving office, but I think it was soon repealed.

Sorry Ted, not good enough. We need to ban lobbyists altogether. Then we can get closer to the free market that helps us all.

If lawmakers could not be lobbyists, there would be no incentive for them to leave office.

Courtesans have been with us since the very first earthly kingdom was established. Like the poor, they will always be with us, even if we ban them. They'll just change their name again.

Jimmy Carter promised that members of his administration would not be allowed to cash in on their governemnt service.
His Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Alan "Scotty" Campbell (who messed up personnel reform efforts for Carter) went from OPM to Executive Vice President for Governmental Relations for ARA Services, which was the fourth largest employer in the U.S., and the biggest federal contractor. He had previously been an academic.
Efforts to control that are futile, and the lipsticked Puerto Rican, who is Kelly Bundy's not so bright sister, should know that.

Count me in. I'm also for making it illegal to so much as take $20.00 for mowing their neighbors lawn while in office. I want them to work for the people not just the people who line their pockets outside the official salary that comes with working for the people. We should pay then handsomely and hang them if they take foreign money.
Our biggest failure in implementing the constitutional republic is that our representatives are on the take. And our representatives have been ever increasing their product portfolio by straying away from the constitution and equal protection under the law. The tax code and regulatory behemoth are the primary product lines for sale.

We have the best government money can buy. I remember the cheer leader from Mississippi (don't remember his name) left congress early so he could become a lobbyist as some law was taking effect that banned lobbying for a certain time after the politician left office and he wanted to get in before the law was in place. 99% of them should have to wear uniforms like the race car drivers to show who really pays for them.

And how about a ban on congress critters legally making a fortune on insider trading. (something any of us would go to jail for)

This concept has been floating around for years, just like term limits, and AOC probably heard it at a Georgetown bar. Congress will never cut their own salaries, benefits or perks. Life is too good for them.
