President Barack Hussein Obama wanted a monument in Chicago, and Chicago gave him parkland, patience, tax breaks, years of disruption, and now a tower that looks less like civic memory than self-regard poured into granite.
The Obama Presidential Center opens to the public June 19 in Jackson Park, a historic South Side park once shaped by Frederick Law Olmsted's vision. The Obama Foundation calls it an “awe-inspiring 19-acre campus.”
Many Chicagoans can look at the same structure and see something colder.
The building matches the man's politics. Obama, the 44th president, sold hope in polished speeches while leaving the country more divided than he found it. My criticism of Obama has

Retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell was mysteriously whisked to the hospital Sunday morning for unknown reasons, and his current condition is not publicly known.
“Senator McConnell was admitted to the hospital this morning. He is receiving excellent care,” a spokesperson for McConnell told The Post.
McConnell’s spokesperson declined to give more details about the senator’s hospitalization.
The 84-year-old former Senate GOP leader has long suffered from a string of health-related issues even as he has continued to ask sharp questions during committee hearings as he serves out the remainder of his seventh term.
The Kentucky Republican was previously hospitalized in February with flu-like symptoms.

New York City was plunged into chaos as thousands of revelers flooded the streets of Midtown after the Knicks won their first NBA championship in 53 years.
The out-of-control Knicks fans were seen smashing up a cop car outside of Madison Square Garden, while others destroyed MTA and school buses among the madness in the hours after New York’s historic win on Saturday night.
Two maniacs were seen jumping on top of the car and smashing up its front windshield , according to a video posted by FreedomNews TV. [snip] Officers say they haven’t worn this much protection in the streets of the city since COVID

Concern is mounting that taxpayers could be left holding the bag if the Obama Presidential Center runs into financial trouble, as the foundation behind it has yet to establish a promised $470 million safety net to guard against a public bailout. The scrutiny comes as a Fox News Digital investigation found multiple contractors and subcontractors claiming losses ranging from hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions on the project, with some alleging they remain locked in payment disputes and face financial ruin just days before the center's grand opening.
Under its agreement with the city, the Obama Foundation pledged to create the fund, known as an endowment, as part

Obama, whose roots are African rather than African-American, rose to power by hijacking the racial resentments and guilty left behind in America after a history of slave and segregation he was never part of.
Now, the one trick pony is at it again, announcing the opening of the grim fortress of a museum in Chicago, on ‘Juneteenth’, trying to link his time in the White House as a notable event for black people up there with the end of slavery.
It’s another cynical and despicable hijacking of American history to serve his own vanity and ego.
The reality, as most black people will admit, is that

Sunday on “This Week,” former President Barack Obama said the United States could not bully or bomb its way to a solution when asked about the Trump administration’s actions in Iran.
Reporter Robin Roberts asked, “You spent a lot of time wrestling with the threat of a nuclear Iran. How do you think things are being handled right now there?”
Obama said, “It is doubtful that any agreement that arises is going to be significantly different or a significant improvement from the deal that we had in the first place. And had worked for, for a long stretch of time, before we, the United States, pulled out of it.

SpaceX went public this week and, in doing so, made Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire. In the same swoop, Musk also made over 4,000 of his employees millionaires.
Elon and his employees don’t have that money in a bank. Much of it exists in stock options. What no one can argue is that Elon created more millionaires in a shorter period of time than anyone else in history.
This should have been a moment of celebration for Americans. Musk is a citizen, and his stunning success should have been an inspiration for a generation of potential innovators. Being number one often drives competitors

Democratic Utah congressional candidate Liban Mohamed has mobilized a nationwide community of Somali-American supporters to drive donations for his campaign to represent Salt Lake City.
Donors with names originating from Somalia or East Africa account for around 85% of Mohamed’s unique donors, and roughly the same share of his total donations, according to FEC filings for April and May.
An identical percentage of his donors are from out of state, as the 27-year-old son of Somali immigrants has toured the country, seeking donations from areas with large Somali-American populations.
In late May, he attended a fundraising event for Somali-Americans in Minneapolis with progressive Minnesota Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar, who endorsed him in April.

Over a dozen community members demanded action against what they described as Islamophobic comments made by a Peoria Unified School District governing board member.
During a June 9 district board meeting, speakers said Janelle Bowles had shared posts on social media rejecting Islam as a religion, claimed Muslim families indoctrinate their children and suggested the religion would take over the country. Several district staff and parents asked for her resignation or the governing board to formally censure her.
Students told the board Bowles’ comments made Muslim students feel unsafe in their own schools and normalized prejudice against them.

A former White House alum under Joe Biden says the former president has returned to public life for 'financially driven' reasons.
Biden, alongside wife Jill, has made several public appearances recently, including the ex-First Lady's headline-making promotional tour for her new memoir.
However, one ex-Biden staffer said that the Bidens are doing all of this out of obligation. He's not getting any younger, he's ill, and it feels financially driven,' the anonymous source told New York Magazine.
One of the main financial needs is money to potentially build his own presidential library as fundraising has been deemed a total failure so far.
The chairman of The Biden Foundation claims things will
