The US and Iran have reached a peace deal to end their three-and-a-half-month-old war, President Trump announced Sunday evening.
The Strait of Hormuz, which carries 20% of the world’s oil, is set to reopen on Friday when a deal is signed in Switzerland, officials said.
“The Deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“Congratulations to all! I hereby fully authorize the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz, and, simultaneously herewith, authorize the immediate removal of the United States Naval blockade. Ships of the World, start your engines. Let the oil flow!”

So we remove the blockade and Iran agrees to open the strait (a condition that existed prior to the war), thereby gaining recognition that they control the straight (a recognition that did not exist before the war) and the always trustworthy Iran promises to give up their nuclear ambition and agrees to discuss handing over their nuclear material. Meanwhile we act on Irans behalf as a restraining force against Israel in their war for survival against Iran and its proxies. Did I miss anything? If we could not finish the job we should not have started it. America looks weaker than ever and Iran is victorious. Beyond sad.

#1, I see it much differently. The fact that pallets of cash were sent to Iran by a former administration, the can kept getting kicked down the road. It was quite obvious in July 2024 with the attempted assassination of Donald Trump that if he won the presidency, it was going to be a long road. All of the threats aimed at his administration, he could be a bully but he puts America and her people first. . .

The peace deal will have the shelf life of a live bouquet of roses but no other president has done anything except dump cash on Iran and hope that they would behave and stop financing terrorism with it. Now they must behave or face a real invasion.

It makes sense to me that so long as there are ANY mullahs and IRGC alive the war will never be over, only delayed a year or 5, until such time as Iran has their capabilities back! The Quran says it's ok to lie(cheat, murder or enslave) in order to further the ideals of Islam. There is NO deal and never will be!

I'm with #1 and #5. We should have finished what we started...eliminated the IRGC and Iran leadership.

Its true that islamists are jake with lying. They dont make treaties. They make hudnas. Which is a way of saying that they call a beak to rearm. If funding and supplying their terror groups stops, it will be much easier for Israel. I trust Trump to make an enforcable deal. Maybe they can still throw a drone at the Strait but the cant mine, topedo, strafe, or interdict anymore. Look at it this way, iran was this generations barbary pirates. Trump is our Jefferson. That worked, didnt it?

Huzzah! Peace In Our Time. Don't bother to say that he knows things that we don't. Caving won't save the midterms, either.

What we have in place so far is a "Memo of Understanding".
The main sticking point is, has been, and will be what to do with the 60% refined uranium laying around, and where is it so that it can be kept monitored and NEVER ENRICHED.
NoBama sent pallets and pallets of cash on the promise that they would NOT enrich it and make a WMD and he trusted them NOT to do it FOR TEN YEARS., They likely used that cash to fund groups creating WORLDWIDE havoc, supporting the building of stockpiling all sorts of armaments, and after last year's "midnight hammer" operation, they have been furiously working to rebuild that which was destroyed.
We are EXTREMELY FOOLISH TO TRUST THAT THEY WILL HONOR their part of the agreement for one OVERRIDING consideration-- TAQIYYA-- a concept in Islam that allows a Muslim to conceal their faith or religious identity to protect themselves from danger or persecution.
This means they will LIE about literally ANYTHING to protect their point of view or to 'allow' them to deceive and be given a pass instead of having the integrity to be truthful. Upon this, the success of the entire 'agreement' depends.

This entire business gives one a "What am I not understanding" feeling. PDT calls it a deal. Iran refers to it as an MoU. Trump says it means no nukes for Iran - forever. Iran says the understanding contains nothing about nuclear matters which are to be "discussed" (good luck with that) in the next 60 days. This much seems clear, the embargo will be lifted and Iran will be free to sell oil and rearm. The Mullah regime still in place. What happens after 60 days. Hormuz is re-closed and gas prices start rising again? There has to be another plan in Trump's mind that he is not (or cannot) divulge at this time.

#10, and I am not the President of the USA. It is not an easy decision to make for Donald Trump. There has been impeachment trial after impeachment trial for him as President of the USA. All of the comments before yours are easy to make or decide when you are just an observer. Let's see how decisions would play out if all these court trials landed in your lap. . .

Some words of encouragement. Keep in mind, folks, that your opinions and thoughts while well respected on L.com are significantly influenced by what you see and hear from the news media. Regardless if you rely on the more credible news sources and/or those not so credible, you are being fed what these sources want you to hear. The amount of factual information gathered by these news sources is quite small. What is actually happening in iran and these so-called negotiations is not visible to the news media or us. But the propaganda doesn't seem to have much trouble reaching us. How to separate factual news from propaganda? Good question. But we must keep trying.

This “deal” is probably to get fuel prices down and the economy roaring before the mid terms in the fall.
After that, we can re visit the Iranian problem at our leisure without the pressure of getting wiped out by the communists in November.

And to add to your post, #13, people are woefully underestimating President Trump again. The election is 4 1/2 months away and there's enough time to do several things to make those elections a success for America and President Trump. Being able to hone in on the election and nullifying Democrat lies is probably at the forefront of his thoughts at this time, not to mention battling ballot fraud.
Everyone knows you cannot trust the Iranian mullahs and IRGC. President Trump knows this and will address it again I think, but he'll be in a much better position to do so if the price of oil and gas are way down, CPI is down, and the economy is humming along. AND most importantly, he does not have to battle a Democrat controlled Congress, or even half a Congress, which will be minus a few Rinos to boot!
Sometime after the election when everyone KNOWS the fanatical mullahs and IRGC will renege on whatever agreement they've made, BAM! President Trump will have a better opportunity to rid the world of Iranian mullahs and IRGC lunatics. I'm sure Israel will want to get in on that too!

Unless I’m wrong and someone can provide a link, the agreement has not been released to the public. The comments here are based on media interpretations. Trump certainly knows the Iranians can’t be trusted so I would expect to see safeguards and repercussions spelled out. I’m withholding judgement until I see what we actually agreed to.

#14 - My sentiments are the same. This gets a deal in place which will allow the oil prices to drop precipitously, which will light a fire under the economy in time for the midterms which will hopefully leave the republicans in charge of Congress. President Trump has to know that the Iranian Islamic savages are incapable of abiding by any of the terms of the deal but by then the midterms are safely in the bag and we can go back and bomb Iran back into the stone ages. Another plus is we can now focus on finishing off the commies in Cuba. Allowing the communist/islamist death democrats to gain control of the House and Senate is far more dangerous to our country than Iran right now.

Let's face it. Trump has to bring oil prices down before the midterms or he will lose the House and the Senate. That is the only issue most people care about. They don't want war and they don't care about Iran, even if they should.

It is simply beyond belief that Trump would agree to such a disastrous deal, declare "Peace in our time," allow Iran to continue its nuclear program, leave the Iranian regime in place, and abandon the Iranian people. Therefore -- and despite the absence of evidence currently being made available to the American people, the media, and the traitorous Congress -- I have to believe this situation will continue to play out, and that we will learn Trump's real plan in due time.

To everyone who 'wants the job finished'.... here are your choices
a) trust that Trump has a deal with teeth and he has sufficiently weakened the Iranians that something good will result and
b) Nation build. Boots on the ground. Remember that the IRGC is great at IEDs. I'm SURE you're not in favor of a forever war.

What happens next? Iranians break the terms of agreement, of course.
