The Great Electricity Rip-Off: Why Your
Bill Keeps Going Up

For all of my adult life, I have believed that free markets incentivize innovation, generate lower costs, and improve services. Indeed, confidence in the value of free markets is one of the foundations of conservatism, and why I align with the Republican Party. I have also always felt that conservatives need to be on the lookout for industries that try to co-opt the free market movement, to take advantage of their customers, and do so under the guise of competition. Giving customers options is a good thing, but only if they actually deliver innovations, better services, and lower prices.

It's hard to have 'competition' when there is ONE set of power lines delivering electricity. I remember reading about the financial side of Kommieformia's electrical system. It was a Frankenstein conglomeration- some parts regulated, some parts not regulated.... designed by Leftist fools. Add to this that their population has exploded over the last 40 years, and nary a new power plant or transmission line allowed to be built. Add in the Greeenie-Weenie 'Net Zero CO-2' restrictions on generating electricity, the dynamiting of hydroelectric dams 'to restore fish habitat', and all the other bat-droppings policies, and it's no wonder that it's a mess. Oh, and the infamous Ivanpah solar-mirror-steam-powered electrical generating plant and bird incinerator was a complete flop, and is being shut down.

China’s Industrial Policy: Ambition,
Inefficiency, and a Cautionary Tale for America

There is a certain seductive logic to watching your rival gain advantage through state support and concluding that you should respond in kind. Across the American political spectrum, from think tanks like the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation to conservatives who once treated “picking winners” as a term of derision, industrial policy has staged a remarkable comeback. The pitch is straightforward enough: if Beijing is subsidizing its way to dominance in semiconductors, electric vehicles, and advanced manufacturing, surely Washington cannot afford to stand on free-market principles while the factories disappear. It is a compelling story, and it is also, on closer inspection, largely a myth.
SAF Warns Virgin Islands Lawmakers to

The US Virgin Islands is one of the most anti-gun territories in the United States. They seem to have no respect for gun rights, with might not be relevant if they weren't a US territory and thus subject to the Constitution. I'm not sure the lawmakers there really seem to understand that, though, with their history of gun-grabbing, but it doesn't make it any less true. And they're at it again, this time with a bill containing numerous provisions, including a "vampire rule." That's led the Second Amendment Foundation to tell them they really should back off on that. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, a top contender to be the Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, has a history of downplaying the threat posed by the Muslim Brotherhood — now designated a terrorist group by the U.S. — and even defended a brazen power grab by the Islamist group’s leader during the Brotherhood’s brief reign in Egypt. El-Sayed, who is seeking to be the first Muslim in the U.S. Senate, signed onto a 2012 statement which defended the Muslim Brotherhood’s rule of Egypt and further defended a massive power grab by Mohammed Morsi, the leader of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood.

Keep in mind the FISA (702) extension already passed the House, and the bill is sitting in the Senate where the ever-predictable John Thune is not bringing it up for a vote. This morning the House tried to pass a short-term FISA (702) extension for three weeks (ending July 2). The measure failed by a vote of 218 to 198. In addition to Democrats, nineteen republicans also voted against it. The Democrats are claiming their lack of support surrounds the appointment of Bill Pulte as Acting DNI effective June 19, and their concern that Pulte will weaponize the FISA (702) authority to conduct political surveillance.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) has immediately suspended federal funding to the lead homeless agency in Los Angeles amid allegations of “obvious fraud” and “wanton mismanagement.” HUD’s inspector general, Brian Harrison has also launched an investigation into the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) and its leadership, Fox News Digital reported Thursday. The scandal-plagued agency has received nearly $1 billion in federal funding since 2021, even as the homeless crisis exploded on city streets. The White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, led by Vice President JD Vance, said in a statement on X Thursday that it is —

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced Thursday that the Trump administration has located 146,000 unaccompanied migrant children who were trafficked into the United States during the Biden administration and subsequently lost. During a news conference at the Department of Justice with Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and other Trump administration officials, Mullin credited a joint effort between DHS, ICE and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for finding the missing children, which he said President Trump has made a high priority. Unfortunately, nearly 300,000 minors remain unaccounted for, according to Mullin, although officials continue to search for them.N

But Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said today that anyone flying an England flag outside their home was “now intimidating migrants, according to our political class”. Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp told the Daily Mail: “This is outrageous. Patriotic British citizens should be allowed to display national flags, whether the St George’s Cross, Saltire or Union Jack – at times like these. “Woke councils should stop being ashamed of our national identity and culture, and start celebrating it instead. The Ongoing Charade of Hamas Disarmament 1 reply

Hamas is not agreeing to disarm. It is bargaining. The Cairo meetings reportedly focused heavily on what mediators described as the "restriction of weapons" rather than outright disarmament. Some proposals reportedly envision Hamas and other armed groups "depositing" weapons with Palestinian authorities or placing them under international supervision. This brush-off alone should convince Washington that the current strategy of negotiating with Hamas, as with Iran, is failing. The notion that Hamas would voluntarily surrender the means that allow it to dominate the Gaza Strip, intimidate Palestinians, and wage jihad (holy war) against Israel is detached from reality. Hamas did not spend decades building a military infrastructure, digging tunnels,

We're about three weeks away from Virginia's ban on "assault firearms" and "large capacity" magazines taking effect, and gun shops across the Old Dominion are continuing to see booming business as customers look to stock up on the guns and magazines that will have to be pulled from store shelves unless the law is enjoined from being enforced by an injunction. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, gun sales in Virginia last month were about double what they were in May, 2025. That's right in line with what Steve's Archery and Guns owner Steve Rodgers has been seeing at his shop in Shenandoah.

“The Men Who Fear Women.” That’s the title of Helen Lewis’s latest cover story for The Atlantic. It’s currently making a big splash as she travels the podcast and interview circuit—PBS, The New York Times, NPR—explaining what she calls “masculinism,” a movement that apparently wants to put women back in the kitchen where they belong, having stripped them of all their political rights. Sounds scary, huh? As the title suggests, though, it isn’t the women who are scared (although perhaps they should be)—it’s the men. You may remember Helen Lewis from her car-crash interview with Jordan Peterson for GQ, way back in 2018.

A few days ago, the ‘coalition of the willing’ (Starmer, Merz, Macron and Zelenskyy) met in London to hammer out the latest words on paper, a new military pledge to support Ukraine against Russia. Both British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and King Charles III agreed to a renewed military effort that included British armed forces securing Ukraine territory according to their plan. Three days later, British Defense Minister John Healey resigns, citing insufficient funding of military. Seriously folks, you cannot make this up. This comes on the heels of the U.K. borrowing ships from Germany in order to participate in NATO exercises led by the U.K.

"This was by far the worst experience I’ve been involved in, or even witnessed." The worst experience she’s ever even witnessed. By far. The Puck reporter observed that Stahl's voice "trailed off

The “sweetest” elderly Mississippi couple were allegedly killed by a teenage burglar who then shot at cops during a six-hour standoff while barricaded in the house, according to authorities. Billy Blair, 74, and his wife, Virginia Carol Blair, 71, were killed after 17-year-old Cordarius Hobbs broke into their home last Wednesday, WLBT reported. Hobbs has since been charged with capital murder. Cops swooped on the Mendenhall home just after noon for a welfare check after worried relatives couldn’t make contact — but they encountered gunfire upon their arrival. The burglary was already taking place when police arrived and the front door was open.

If you ask, many Americans will tell you that one of the things they hate most about "the swamp," Washington, D.C., is the fact that once a congressman or senator gets elected, pulling them out of said swamp is next to impossible, and the result is geriatric lawmakers being wheeled around in wheelchairs. It's certainly not what the Founding Fathers intended. Now, one House member may have the answer to this dilemma. Republican Rep. Chip Roy (TX-21) has introduced a bill that would end both pay and power for House and Senate members who have reached 12 years of service in their respective legislative bodies.

A new state law goes into effect on Aug. 1 in Minnesota, which will no longer allow 10-, 11- and 12-year-old children to be criminally prosecuted. The law, passed two years ago by state legislators, now requires children under 13 who are considered delinquent, or who have broken a state law, be redirected to social services. The Minnesota Association of County Social Service Administrators (MACSSA) represents social service staff across the state's 87 counties and is asking the state to step in and make changes to the law.
