Can California Still Be Saved?

The recent California gubernatorial and Los Angeles mayoral elections—where, remarkably, Steve Hilton and Spencer Pratt both appear to have advanced to the general election in November—offer a glimmer of hope. Could it be that some on the Left, along with a number of Independents, have finally realized that neither wealth nor an upscale ZIP code can protect them from the Left’s vindictive socialist madness? California gas prices, even prior to the Iran war, had reached the highest levels in the continental United States. The cause is self-evident: left-wing policies

Outsiders Night: GOP ‘Change’ Agents

In a state that hasn’t elected a Republican governor in nearly two decades and where Democrats outnumber Republicans nearly two to one in registered voters, Tuesday night belonged to two conservative political outsiders who based their campaigns on a simple message: Californians deserve better. Former Fox News host Steve Hilton and reality television veteran Spencer Pratt arrived at their respective races with thinner war chests than their establishment rivals, no prior experience in elected office, and campaigns built less on policy infrastructure than on raw charisma, populist messaging, and an uncomplicated argument: that California leaders had failed, and that change – dramatic, disruptive change – was long overdue.
This is a ‘Jackie Robinson moment,’

“It’s a Jackie Robinson moment.” That declaration by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries struck a curious chord because Jeffries was calling for Black athletes to boycott SEC conference teams to protest not the existence but the elimination of racial discrimination. Jeffries was upset that the court had ended racial gerrymandering designed to guarantee the election of non-white (and largely Democratic) House members. It was as if Jackie Robinson were to join a protest calling for the return of race-based discrimination in baseball.

The Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, barring racial gerrymandering, has many on the left feigning vapors, despite the predictions of many of us that this result was likely. While figures such as Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) declared that the court itself has been “gerrymandered” to rig the upcoming elections, this decision is actually the culmination of decades of jurisprudence by various justices — particularly Chief Justice John Roberts.
How Iran Committed Suicide 6 replies

How does the supposedly most fearsome regime in the violent Middle East now find itself on the verge of an utter economic and military collapse? Iran’s half-century-long deadly terrorist reputation peaked with the October 7, 2023, massacre in Israel that it helped fund and coordinate. Iran’s terrorist ambitions of running the Middle East had accelerated after witnessing Joe Biden’s cognitive decline and his administration’s distancing itself from Israel. Biden’s humiliation by a series of Chinese slights and the Russian invasion of Ukraine further eroded American deterrence. European appeasement was another force multiplier of Iranian hubris.

"Monty Python" actor John Cleese warned this week that the world has failed to live up to the ideal of saying "Black lives matter" when it ignores anti-Christian terrorism in Nigeria. Numerous news sources around the world, including The Associated Press, reported that according to local military and officials, at least 26 people were killed in three separate Easter attacks in northern Nigeria. This has caused multiple prominent commentators to not only criticize the terrorism rife in the region, but the silence of the international community that they argue is politically-motivated. "It looks rather as though Black Lives Don't Matter," Cleese lamented

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is likely to hold a vote or vote on a resolution on the Strait of Hormuz as early as Friday, April 3. "The proposed resolution will authorize member states to use "all necessary and appropriate means of defense in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding waters, including in the territorial waters of coastal states within or bordering the Strait of Hormuz," said Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani on Thursday, quoted by Antara via Sputnik-RIA Novosti. According to him, the effort is to secure transit routes and prevent attempts to close, block, or disrupt international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

US Army Chief of Staff Gen. Randy George is retiring “effective immediately,” a Pentagon official announced Thursday amid reports War Secretary Pete Hegseth asked the high-ranking military officer to step down. “The Department of War is grateful for General George’s decades of service to our nation,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell wrote on X. “We wish him well in his retirement,” he added. George, 61, was nominated by former President Joe Biden and confirmed by the Senate for the Army chief of staff post in 2023. The Army chief of staff typically serves a four-year term. Hegseth reportedly wanted someone in the role who would implement the vision he and President Trump

The Rutherford County Library Board in Tennessee fired its top librarian for refusing to move LBGTQ books out of the children’s section. The board voted 8-3 Monday to fire library system director Luanne James after she said she would not move more than 100 LGBTQ books from the children to the adult’s section, The Associated Press reported. The board voted earlier this month to move the books, saying they cause “gender confusion” for young children, especially those going through puberty. “Follow the law,” a Rutherford County school board member said when speaking in favor of moving the books “Protect the children. Hold the line.”

Now, more than 80 years after the end of the Nazi dictatorship, anyone can click through millions of index cards in the US National Archives without registering, and search for the names of their own grandparents and great-grandparents. The data contains information on 6.6 million Germans who were members of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) until 1945, stored on more than 5,000 digitized microfilm reels. But the records are incomplete: According to the German Historical Museum, in 1945 "one in five adult Germans was one of a total of 8.5 million party members" and thus, at least on paper, supported the fascist regime.

Lawyers for Swalwell sent a cease-and-desist letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, warning the bureau would violate federal privacy law if it moves ahead with releasing records regarding the congressman’s decade-old relationship with a suspected Chinese spy named Christine "Fang Fang" Fang. Two hundred and ten years ago this summer, a 19-year-old woman named Mary Shelley, bored one stormy afternoon, decided to write the scariest story ever told. It was a tale of a brilliant and arrogant man who wanted to change the world but ended up creating a monster. She named him Barack Obama. All right, she named him Dr. Frankenstein. But had the great author been around to witness Adam Hamawy win the Democratic primary in New Jersey’s 12th Congressional District, she would’ve understood right away that she was looking at a familiar tale of hubris, malice and ghouls on the loose.

Insufferable NeverTrumper John Bolton has worked out a plea deal and will plead guilty to a single count of “illegal retention of sensitive national security documents,” reports far-left CNN. Bolton was originally charged with “eight counts of transmission of national defense information and 10 counts of retention of national defense information.” A conviction on any of those counts would’ve meant serious jail time. On this one count, although the penalty is up to five years in prison, the deal apparently comes with Bolton agreeing to plead guilty and pay a fine of $2.25 million without jail time. However, a judge could still sentence the 77-year-old to prison regardless of the plea agreement.

Four Republicans voted with the Democrats: Thomas Massie, Brian Fitzpatrick, Tom Barrett and Warren Davidson. The resolution is likely dead on arrival in the Senate. If it passes the Senate, Trump will veto the resolution. The Hill reported: House lawmakers on Wednesday passed legislation designed to force President Trump to end the Iran War, marking a victory for Democrats and the constitutional purists who say the conflict is illegal without explicit congressional approval. The tally was 215-208, with four Republicans — Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.),

Democrats in New Jersey just handed a primary win to Adam Hamawy, a candidate with actual ties to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda, which is credited with carrying out the attacks of 9/11. This is in a district where Todd Beamer is buried. You may remember Todd Beamer as the airline passenger on Flight 93 who famously said “Let’s roll” as his last known words, referring to other passengers as they prepared to retake control of the plane, which crashed into a field in rural Pennsylvania instead of somewhere in DC. This is what Democrats have come to. Utterly shameful.

Americans should expect, at a minimum, to have elections that are free and fair, and results that are delivered promptly. But California is taking its laid-back reputation too far, failing to deliver its election results in a timely manner and creating the perception that they are neither free nor fair. Slothful election results have plagued California for years since it made wholesale changes to its election system in 2016. It has mass mail-in ballots that can be counted post-election and allows for an extremely slow pace of counting. Proponents of the system say this makes their elections more “secure” and accessible. The rule did not pass through the legislature after committee hearings, mark-ups, and open debate.

As the vote-count totals crawl across Los Angeles and California, The California Post visited the county’s 144,000-square-foot ballot processing facility Thursday, which showed dozens of empty work stations. The scene at the warehouse appeared at odds with the mounting pressure to process hundreds of thousands of remaining ballots. County officials announced Wednesday night that just 77,521 additional ballots had been processed since June 2 election night, but an estimated 713,180 ballots are still outstanding. Yet during The Post’s visit, large sections of the facility appeared lightly staffed. Rows of workstations sat empty.
