Tennessee GOP Gov. Bill Lee on Thursday delayed an inmate's execution by one year after the state Department of Corrections' medical staff failed to find a suitable vein to administer the lethal injection drugs into.
The man scheduled to be executed was Tony Carruthers, who was convicted of three 1994 murders and sentenced to death in 1996.
Lee scheduled the new execution to take place on May 21, 2027, exactly one year after he was initially scheduled for execution.
Carruthers' attorneys have argued that he was wrongfully convicted and stated he has mental illnesses that “continue to impair his understanding of his legal situation and his impending

A group of mostly Democratic strategists and power players are rebuilding a political action committee meant to fortify election-defense infrastructure ahead of 2028 by focusing on often overlooked state offices that control election administration, litigation and certification.
The group, Democracy Defenders, which previously worked to support legal efforts and help with post-election planning in partnership with the Harris presidential campaign, tells ABC News exclusively that they’re re-launching their political arm. It plans to spend upwards of $10 to 15 million by “protecting democracy and rule of law” in races for Attorneys General, Secretaries of State and state Supreme Court in presidential battleground states– places they see critical to safeguarding

A woman allegedly tied to Minnesota’s massive “Feeding Our Future” scandal has been charged in a daycare fraud scheme after being featured in a viral video by influencer Nick Shirley, authorities said.
She is accused of pocketing millions of dollars meant for children’s meals.
Fahima Egeh Mahamud was charged Wednesday with wire fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States, according to court documents.
Earlier this year, Mahamud was indicted for her alleged role in the initial $250 $250 million “Feeding Our Future” scheme.
Prosecutors allege she enrolled Future Leaders Early Learning — a Minneapolis daycare where she served as CEO — into the federal child nutrition program, falsely claiming to serve thousands

Fox News host Johnny "Joey" Jones reenlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Wednesday during a swearing-in ceremony at the Pentagon. "The last job I had in uniform — my job was to get better. It was to heal. It's a very selfish thing. My job was to heal. The Marine Corps paid me to get better, and then I retired. And there's nothing wrong with that, but it was unfinished business," Jones said at the ceremony.
Jones, a formerly-retired staff sergeant, served eight years in the Marine Corps and was deployed twice, suffering a life-changing injury while deployed in Afghanistan as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal technician. The 2010 IED-related

NEW YORK -- NEW YORK (AP) — George Soros ’ Open Society Foundations pledged $300 million Wednesday toward initiatives it says will defend democratic rights and advance economic security in the U.S. over the next five years.
The new strategy comes even as President Donald Trump's administration has singled out the Soros family, accusing them of supporting violence and fostering division. Those attacks are part of a broad effort rolled out in 2025 by Trump and his allies to influence nonprofits and charitable funders through executive orders, by withholding funding or by threatening investigations.

Under the U.S. Constitution, anyone who is not a "natural-born citizen" is barred from becoming president or vice president. Now, a House Republican wants to expand that requirement to much of the federal government.
Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., plans to introduce a joint resolution Wednesday proposing a constitutional amendment requiring members of Congress, federal judges and other Senate-confirmed appointees to be natural-born citizens.
The proposal would affect more than a dozen naturalized citizens currently serving in Congress, including several Republicans. Mace, who is running to be South Carolina’s next governor, suggested that the country’s nearly 25 million naturalized citizens, who made the deliberate choice to become Americans, may have divided loyalties.

Poland’s defense minister said no decisions have been made to reduce the number of American troops in the country and recent US moves may only temporarily delay their deployment, after meeting US Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Christopher Mahoney.
Vice President JD Vance told reporters on Tuesday a US troop deployment to Poland had been delayed, but that it was not accurate to say the troops were being withdrawn from Europe.
Poland was earlier alarmed by reports the Pentagon had canceled plans to deploy 4,000 US troops in the country. Officials tried to reassure Poles that this was not the case.

A 98 year-old WWII veteran named John Bernard Arnold III recently passed away in Massachusetts and had no known living relatives. People sent out word about his funeral services and hundreds of strangers showed up to pay their respects. It’s such a beautiful thing when this happens.
A similar situation unfolded for a Navy veteran in Tennessee back in March.
In this case, some estimates suggest as many as 1,500 people showed up. Just amazing.

The friendly skies just got a little friendlier.
The Transportation Safety Administration updated its policy last month to allow medical marijuana to be taken on commercial flights.
The change is significant because although cannabis for medical use is now legal in 40 US states and the District of Columbia, it remains outlawed at the federal level, which has jurisdictional control over the nation’s airports.
It comes after the Trump administration signed an order reclassifying marijuana as a Schedule III drug, effectively acknowledging that it has known medicinal uses and allowing medical research at a federal level.

The Trump administration is expected to announce criminal charges against former Cuban president Raul Castro on Wednesday, in a move that would mark a step-up in Washington’s pressure campaign against the Caribbean island’s communist government.
The charges against Castro, 94, are expected to be based on a 1996 incident in which Cuban jets shot down planes operated by a group of Cuban exiles, a US Justice Department official told Reuters last week on the condition of anonymity.
The Miami US Attorney’s office is planning to host an event starting at 1 p.m. EDT to honor victims of the incident. The Justice Department said on Tuesday it would make an announcement in conjunction

Ask anyone in the South, and they can confirm to you that college football is more or less a religion there.
In particular, the Southeastern Conference — better known by its acronym of SEC — has become one of the crowning jewels for Southern football fans.
The conference is known for producing swathes of NFL-caliber players, dynasties like Alabama, and consistent top-tier programs like Georgia. While the proliferation of college athletic money has somewhat closed the gap between the SEC and its fellow power conferences, the conference is still viewed as the gold standard of college football (though some fans are quick to call the conference overrated,
