A law that was brought in under Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to give all candidates an equal chance at the ballot is now being contested. In California, the primaries — dubbed the “jungle primaries” — work in a way where the two candidates, regardless of party, who secure the top two positions in the June primary advance to the general election. Now, a newly filed application is aiming to change that. (Snip) “It was extremely scary to envision the November ballot for governor with Republicans on it,” Maviglio told the Los Angeles Times. Too late. Ballots have already been sent out and people have already mailed them to be counted. Once Eric Swallwell was defenestrated the top two candidates no longer were Republicans. Steve Hilton is still up there but unfortunately Chad Bianco is no longer sharing the top with Hilton.

They LOVED their crapola system when it locked out Republicans, but now they freak out when it looks like locking out Dems. HAH! Seems unlikely that they can legally change it this late in the cycle. But, then again, when has "legally" been a barrier in California politics?

LMAO - For the last 15 years(!) the Democrats just loved the "jungle primary" because in the preponderance of races the "top two" were always Democrats. Now that two Republicans will be on the ballot for governor has sent them all to the psychiatrists couch. Boo, hoo, hoo! My heart bleeds! /heavy sarcasm I prefer Sheriff Bianco to Hilton. He knows how the maze of Californian state government works, who is corrupt and who is not. He's familiar with the obstructionists in the Legislature and knows the "work-arounds". Hilton is a good man, but has not served in the government. Sacramento is a voracious beast that chews up people and spits them out. Hilton just doesn't have the needed experience. A neophyte at this critical juncture would put California into a doom cycle. Bianco for California Governor!

Like most Democrat vote getting schemes, the jungle primary worked as intended to keep them in power. This year however, the Democrats are finding their political tricks have backfired on them. Suddenly, the jungle primary needs to be changed....NOW! Republicans lead the pack of candidates. This was never supposed to happen. Now Democrats get to live with the consequences of their own political tricks.

The rule was designed to lock out Republicans for the general election. So your only choice would be between two Dems. Now that it's back firing, they want to challenge it.

In 1921, Woodrow Wilson, the first of America’s four transformative progressive presidents, became the first president to remain in Washington and make the nation’s capital his permanent home after leaving office. A key architect of California’s controversial billionaire tax acknowledged this week that the proposed one-time levy may end up becoming permanent. Economics professor Emmanuel Saez made the admission during a Tuesday debate against Arthur Laffer, the father of trickle-down economics, at the University of California, Berkeley. The billionaires tax — proposed by the Service Employees International Union–United Healthcare Workers West — would impose a one-time 5% levy on California residents with assets exceeding $1 billion. Supporters say the tax is needed to address healthcare funding gaps tied to cuts to Medicaid and other federal programs implemented last year. The proposal
