Cuban-American Congressman Carlos Giménez has once again issued one of the strongest warnings against the Cuban regime amid increasing pressure from Washington: its leaders could end up behind bars in the United States, just like Nicolás Maduro. During an interview with Fox News, Giménez stated that "the leaders of the Cuban regime" could end up meeting the former Venezuelan president "in a New York prison, if they are lucky," referring directly to Maduro's capture on January 3 following an operation authorized by President Donald Trump. The legislator from Florida made it clear that Cuba remains a consistent priority on the White House agenda.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom must be kicking himself after what Democrats just managed to pull off in Virginia.
Not too long ago, Newsom was bragging about a referendum that “suspended” a constitutional amendment so Democrats could gerrymander five Republican districts out of existence.
But that still leaves four California seats that will likely be occupied by Republicans after the midterms.
And this is in a state that hasn’t seen a Republican governor in 15 years, a Republican senator in 34 years, where Democrats have a supermajority in the legislature, and a state that Kamala Harris won by

Not satisfied with destroying Chicago, Democrats in the state want to make sure all Illinoisans suffer. A new bill would override local laws and force access for homeless encampments in all public parks.

A bill that would pause the issuance of H-1B visas for three years to reform the program for when it resumes has been introduced by Rep. Eli Crane (R-AZ) and co-sponsored by a half dozen other House Republicans.
The proposal, introduced Wednesday, would amend the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 to bring the H1-B program back from hiatus with a series of dramatic changes in an aim to better protect American workers — and would rotate the current crop of visaholders out of the U.S. during the pause.
The cap on visas issued would be reduced from 65,000 to 25,000, the existing exemptions to the cap would be eliminated, and the

A federal appeals court on Wednesday blocked enforcement of a California law that would have required federal immigration officers, including ICE agents, to unmask and wear visible identification during operations in the state.
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted the United States’ motion for an injunction pending appeal. The court ruled that Section 10 of the No Vigilantes Act (S.B. 805) “attempts to directly regulate the United States in its performance of governmental functions,” violating the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution.
California, Governor Gavin Newsom, and Attorney General Rob Bonta are now enjoined from applying or enforcing the provision against federal agencies and officers.

"Alligator Alcatraz," an immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades, can remain open, an appeals court ruled on Tuesday, upholding its earlier decision to block a judge's order for the facility to wind down operations for failing to comply with federal environmental law. In a 2-1 decision, the majority on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals found the state-run facility was not under federal control and was not subject to federal law requiring an environmental impact review.
"Florida, not federal, officials constructed the facility," the majority wrote. "They control the land and 'entirely' built the facility at state expense."

An appeals court has blocked a California law passed in 2025 requiring federal immigration agents to wear a badge or some form of identification.
The Trump administration filed a lawsuit in November challenging the law, arguing that it would threaten the safety of officers who are facing harassment, doxing, and violence and that they violated the constitution because the state is directly regulating the federal government.
A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued an injunction pending appeal Wednesday. It had already granted a temporary administrative injunction to block the implementation of the law.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled Wednesday that the state of California -- for now -- cannot enforce two state laws that require all law enforcement officials, including federal and immigration agents, to wear visible identification while banning them from wearing facial coverings.
The panel granted an injunction requested by the U.S. government, saying the No Vigilantes Act and No Secret Police Act attempt "to directly reregulate the United States." The ruling also meant the court found the California law violates the Supremacy Clause in the U.S. Constitution, which requires judges to uphold federal law over conflicting state laws.

The lawmaker claimed the initial filing was riddled with accounting errors.

Key points
Russia and Iran's role. The weakening of Iran in the medium term will inevitably lead to a weakening of Russia’s position in the Middle East. Israel considers any military aid to Iran unacceptable and is conveying this message to Moscow.
Cooperation with Ukraine. The two countries are engaged in dialogue on security and the exchange of unique combat experience. Brodsky agrees that Ukraine has already become a contributor to global security by helping Gulf countries defend against drones.

Virginia used to be a model of fair redistricting. That reputation is now gone.
On Tuesday, Virginia Democrats passed a redistricting plan that transforms one of the most fairly apportioned states in the country into one of the most blatantly gerrymandered.
Keep in mind that Virginia only narrowly backed Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in 2024 by roughly five points. Virginia is, in every way, a battleground state. Yet under the new map, nearly half the state’s voters effectively lose their voice. The new lines snake from densely packed, heavily Democratic suburbs deep into rural territory. There is nothing democratic about it.

Apparently, it’s everyone else’s fault that no one quite knew what to make of Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy’s characteristically attention-grabbing remark on Tuesday morning:
https://x.com/ChrisMurphyCT/status/2046345472915206646?s=20
There is some ambiguity in Murphy’s remark. Was the senator cheering on the ships that supposedly evaded the American blockade? Was he going for sarcasm, mourning the U.S. Navy’s inefficacy with a melancholy hint of self-satisfaction over having his skepticism of this war confirmed by events?
As political observers wrestled over these competing interpretations of Murphy’s remark, we at least learned that the senator was dead wrong about the facts:

The United States was built on a distrust of concentrated power. It is this fundamental distrust of big government that shaped federalism, defined the separation of powers, and limited each branch to a distinct role. During periods of rapid social change, however, governmental restraint weakens. Reform movements—whether in civil rights, economic regulation, or cultural policy—have not only produced legislation but also expanded judicial authority.j Social progressivism brings courts to no longer just interpret the law but also reshape it.
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 addressed a clear injustice. It prohibited discrimination in employment and public accommodations based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Miguel Granda, a longtime Republican staffer and “Christian conservative whose ideas are rooted in his Christian values,” told The Daily Signal he filed his candidacy for Florida House District 117 on Tuesday.
Granda, 34, told The Daily Signal that his experience as a legislative aide to Florida Rep. David Borrero has given him a “firsthand understanding of the challenges facing Miami-Dade and the legislative process needed to address them.”
“Floridians can trust me because I’ve already been doing the work,” Granda said.

The U.S. Treasury Department announced Tuesday that it is placing sanctions on 14 targets for helping Iran obtain weapons and contravening international sanctions.
“As the regime attempts to reconstitute its production capacity, the United States will continue to deplete Iran’s ballistic missile inventories,” the Treasury wrote in a post on X.
In a press release from Treasury, the 14 targets include, “individuals, entities, and aircraft based in Iran, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their involvement in procuring or transporting weapons or weapons components on behalf of the Iranian regime.”

Since he left the National Security Agency and the National Security Council, Gavin Wilde has hit the podcast circuit and penned articles suggesting Donald Trump parroted Russian propaganda while reportedly lamenting “MAGA conspiracy theories.”
Just the News has confirmed that Wilde is the unnamed “Witness 2“ identified in the Ukraine impeachment documents released this month by Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard. The 2019 claims by Witness 2 were critical in helping the intelligence community watchdog push the whistleblower's complaint forward, and his Russiagate-linked biases were concealed from House investigators during the impeachment saga.

A former city official from the border city of Matamoros remains in federal custody after U.S. law enforcement agents arrested him in connection with the attempted smuggling of cocaine in Texas. While Americans are told to think of Iran as a distant threat, the arrest of Iranian national Shamim Mafi at Los Angeles International Airport shattered that fiction on April 18.
According to First Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, Mafi, a lawful permanent resident living in Woodland Hills, allegedly brokered more than $70.6 million in Iranian-made drones, bombs, bomb fuses, assault weapons, and millions of rounds of ammunition for Sudan. If convicted, she faces up to 20 years in federal prison. This is not just a sanctions case. It is a homeland security warning Americans cannot afford to ignore.

Democrats run on “affordability,” spend their early days in power feverishly working to make sure they can never lose again, then rule like Mao.
It’s become clear that despite the deep unpopularity of the Left’s cultural and political agenda, Democrats have no intention of pivoting from peak wokeness. The activist class that the party depends on simply won’t allow it.

Pope Leo XIV on Friday urged young Africans against migrating to the West.
Speaking to students and faculty at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaounde, Cameroon, the pontiff urged younger generations to stay and build their own countries rather than seeking opportunities elsewhere.
“In the face of the understandable tendency to migrate, which may lead one to believe that elsewhere a better future may be more easily found, I invite you to respond with an ardent desire to serve your country and to apply the knowledge you are acquiring here to the benefit of your fellow citizens,” he said.
