It’s the 2020 Democratic primaries all over again. Just as they were then, progressives are trying to one-up each other with increasingly outlandish fiscal proposals. One of the worst ideas from that year’s frenzied contest — a direct tax on household wealth — is back in fashion. The same characters are back to reheat old redistribution. Senator Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) got the ball rolling, outlining a 5 percent annual tax on all billionaires’ net worths. Not to be outdone, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) is more ambitious.

Rep. Eric Swalwell on Saturday responded to news of a renewed FBI probe into his relationship with Fang Fang, the Chinese honeypot who infiltrated his congressional campaign from 2011 to 2015. Swalwell told CNN’s Jim Sciutto that the members of the Trump administration are “dangerous individuals” and claimed that the investigation is only happening because he’s sued the Trump campaign, helped lead an impeachment during Trump’s first term, and is running for Governor of California. Sciutto: As I believe you know that he has now restarted an investigation of you, which the FBI previously conducted and found no accusation or evidence of wrongdoing.

The Minnesota Secretary of State's Office has been served with a federal grand jury subpoena seeking access to certain voter records as part of an investigation into whether non-citizens may have registered or voted illegally, according to sources cited in a report. The probe, led by the U.S. Department of Justice in coordination with the Department of Homeland Security, marks an escalation in a broader dispute between federal authorities and several states over access to voter data and election oversight. No criminal charges have been filed so far. Investigators are looking for information that is linked to more than 125 individuals, a source said.

The Associated Press is running paid public relations advertisements on X and on the wire service’s own website on behalf of Huawei as the blacklisted Chinese telecom behemoth and the CCP seek influence over a key United Nations tech agency. The U.S. government has long pointed to the national security threat posed by Huawei and has sought to limit the firm’s spread inside the United States and around the world. At the same time, the AP took cash from the Chinese company to promote Huawei’s efforts to burnish its image as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) —

As all eyes are glued to the happenings in the Middle East, this story flew under the radar for most of us. But in a lot of ways, the implications for our national security could be greater than what happens in the next few weeks in the Persian Gulf. Drone warfare has come to the United States—to the heart of our nuclear deterrent capabilities—and our defenses proved inadequate to B-52s are part of Operation Epic Fury, and operations had to be suspended at times because the drones interfered with the aircraft's ability to take off and land safely.

On the menu today: President Trump is adding his signature to the U.S. dollar. Also, a long, numbers-heavy look at the assertion going viral that the state government of California is “functionally bankrupt.” In what probably counts for optimism, I would argue the outlook for California’s budget in the coming years is bad — really bad — but not quite apocalyptic this-will-tear-apart-the-country bad. Read on. When We Said, ‘Trump Should Sign the Bill,’ We Meant Something Different Look at it this way; at least President Trump isn’t putting his face on American currency:

Israel’s military leadership has issued one of its starkest warnings in years, raising serious questions about the sustainability of the country’s defense posture amid growing internal strain and mounting operational demands. At the center of the alarm is Eyal Zamir—the highest-ranking military officer in Israel and the commander of the entire IDF—who told ministers behind closed doors that the army is approaching a breaking point. According to reports from multiple Israeli outlets, Zamir warned the cabinet that the Israel Defense Forces could “collapse in on itself” if urgent reforms are not implemented. His remarks,

It's troubling that a state would feel the need to pass a law preserving a constitutional amendment. Not that the state feels that way, so much as the fact that there's a reason for them to feel that way. A few years ago, Missouri passed the Second Amendment Preservation Act. Unfortunately, the courts struck it down as unconstitutional. It was worth a try, and considering the way it was written, I think it probably deserved a much kinder take than the courts gave it, but the ruling was the ruling. Missouri lawmakers, not to be deterred, gave it another go. As we now know, it did not turn out well.

Sir Keir Starmer is expected to offer Sir Sadiq Khan a peerage after the local elections in an attempt to bring one of his most prominent critics on side. The Telegraph has more. Sir Sadiq, who was handed a knighthood last year, has been a vocal critic of Sir Keir’s leadership, recently accusing him of taking “liberal, progressive voters” for granted in a shift to the Right. He also backed Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, after he called for a change in the Prime Minister’s approach last year. Promoting Sir Sadiq to the Lords—

Senators approved a compromise measure early Friday to fund most of the Department of Homeland Security through the end of September, taking a major step toward ending the 42-day partial shutdown that has seen hundreds of airport security workers quit after missing paychecks and snarled travel nationwide. The agreement, passed by voice vote before senators departed Washington for a two-week recess for Easter and Passover, will be considered by the House later Friday morning. The last-ditch deal does not include any of the demands Democrats have placed on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — including that agents be barred from wearing masks and operate under tougher warrant requirements to detain illegal migrants.

Thus, approaching the 2026 election, you’d think that she’d be considering retiring — and if not that, at least scaling back her role a bit. Pulling a Pelosi, if you will: take it a bit easy and let your stock portfolio do the work for you. But, no. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that, despite a 53-47 Republican majority, the U.S. Senate is a graveyard for President Trump’s agenda. This is largely the fault of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), who has never been a strong supporter of the President. Despite this, most Republicans hoped that Thune would work to advance Trump’s priorities, particularly after his decisive 2024 victory provided the momentum for the GOP to retake the Senate. But Thune’s refusal to get the SAVE America Act passed and his surrender to the Democrats on DHS funding — without additional money for ICE or CPB — dashed any hope.

A Ventura County woman has died from a rattlesnake bite she suffered while hiking at Wildwood Regional Park, authorities said Wednesday. The recent fatality marks the second rattlesnake-related death in California this month. Experts say record-breaking heat has made the snakes active earlier than usual. Southern California is a hiker’s paradise, but out on the trails, you’re rarely alone. The Southern Pacific rattlesnake is “right at home in the cracks and crevices of the great outdoors,” said local hiker Croy Tan. “Technically, this is where they are. This is their place, you know what I mean,” he added. On March 14, the Ventura County Fire Department said a 46-year-old woman

(This is a city that is 40% black and Hispanic, according to the Census Bureau.) So we looked at videos and pictures from protests in other cities around the country this past Saturday, and noticed

But this phenomenon of “educator sexual misconduct,” or ESM, is not as bad as it appears. In fact, it’s worse. Such stories evoke the prurient pop music theme found in the rock band Van Halen’s 1984 tune “Hot For Teacher.” However, in the real world, the overwhelming majority of these criminal relationships are never disclosed and prosecuted, and their destructive impact on victims goes largely unreported.

The Daily Caller publicized an Islamic housing development in Texas that was of grave concern to residents. The outlet got action, but it’s only a good start. The housing development was canceled for now, but it’s not the only problem. Texas, like Florida, New York, Utah, South Carolina, and North Carolina, is experiencing a similar threat. Attorney General Ken Paxton wrote, In early February 2026, residents raised concerns about a foreign-based development company’s plan to purchase thousands of acres near Kaufman, Texas. The developers’ plan to create a “sustainable city” capable of housing as many as 20,000 foreign nationals alarmed the surrounding communities.
