Japanese automaker Honda just cancelled the production of three planned made-in-the-U.S.A. electric cars, including the 0-Series SUV, the 0-Series Saloon, and the Acura RSX — and the company says it will write off massive losses as a result.
Still, better than building EVs nobody wants to buy. The company said the EVs had to go to avoid future losses, complaining about the “current business environment where the demand for EVs is declining significantly.”
I follow these things, and I'd somehow never even heard of Honda's 0-Series vehicles — assuredly for "zero emissions" — introduced at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and were

We are in the market for a new car. It will be another Honda CRV, all gas engine. Not sure what Honda saw in their useless Evs, but stupid is as stupid does. Honda got sucked in buy the dim and msm noise that EVs had a future here. Evs don't.

Re #1. Beware to small displacement turbo motors that Honda has been replacing their good old normally aspirated engines with.
I had a 2015 Accord and planned on keeping it until about now. When I discovered that ALL new Hondas were going to have much smaller motors pumped up with turbos....I quickly called a Honda salesman who had sold me several cars. I asked for a new 2017 Accord, in late 2017 when mostly 2018s were in the pipeline. He was able to find one in Nebraska, but no choice of color or options, beyond my required manual transmission.
I'm driving that 2017 now, and hope it lasts until these damned turbo motors get washed out of the system and good, reliable, durable normally aspirated motors are again available.

Bankruptcy is what companies that ignore their customers' wishes get. Listening to foolish government mandates can be fatal to the bottom line. Green policy has pretty much ruined several of the world's largest automobile manufacturers. Honda Motor Company may have awoken in time to save their future. I hope so, because Honda makes good products. (I still drive a 2003 Honda S2000.) Toyota, to their credit, never went very far down the electric car rabbit hole. They may be the healthiest of the car companies. Never, ever listen to the Luddite Al Gore!

The EV car motors probably make good power plants for shop tools, or good for pumps or air movers too.
I bet they are a small fraction of the cost of made-to-purpose motors. I like to play around with things like that.
I know! A conveyor system to get firewood into my shed! Or even a compost sifter. Or, heh, heh, a go-cart.

Take a chance and warehouse them for 3 years until a Democrat has cheated his way into the White House.

Give them away. Better than having them sit in over populated car lots!

There goes my plan to buy a new Civic. All of these car manufacturers who lost billions on EVs will be raising their prices to attempt to make up some of the money. I'll stay with the good old Toyota six-cylinders.

Took my 2024 Outback to the dealership for oil change and tire rotation. Lot was jam packed with 2026 Subaru's overpriced new Outbacks, Solteros, Crosstreks! All with complicated electronics and more bells and whistles then one can shake a stick at! Just not selling anymore.

There is downstream fallout from this that is not being mentioned. The OE dealerships were forced by their franchise agreement to buy very expensive special equipment to maintain these cars. They will still be required for a time to provide maintenance on cars they aren’t selling. The modules and batteries will dwindle in supply as the suppliers go out of business and the prices will be astronomical. To the unfortunates who got sucked into buying an EV good luck unloading it.

These auto companies were forced into making products that don’t work and nobody wants by leftist politicians and the phong climate change scam. Now we all have to pay more for cars because of this boondoggle and there will be no consequences for these reprobates.

Kind of surprised that Honda and its luxury line, Acura fell for the EVs as I hasn't really seen them going down that dead end. I have a 2015 Acura TLX with that good workhorse (Honda) engine - 3.5L V6. This is my fourth Acura and I am hanging onto this car - over 150,000 miles and engines runs great. As others have posted here - do not like these smaller engines with the turbo. When I'm ready for next Acura - will be a used one with the 3.5 L V6 engine.

I have a 2017 Tacoma with the old reliable 3.5-liter V6. I’ll spend whatever it takes to keep it running until I die. I won’t buy a new one with that dinky turbo 4-cylinder engine. They’re already having trouble with them.

Newsflash!
The Klintoon Gullible Initiative is going to buy all the excess EVs - - and donate them to Haiti.
They won't last long there because Haiti doesn't have any electricity. Of course - - this is just another delusional leftist pipe dream - - but the announcement alone will serve the evil purpose of the corrupt Klintoons.

Look, the real problem is that nobody makes an EV worth the price except Tesla! You in the media love to wax poetic about the "collapse" of EVs. Bull! Tesla has designs and manufacturing processes that are far beyond the capabilities of legacy auto makers! Quit misleading your readers!
And somebody please fix this site so it quits playing unwanted videos!! What crap!

Why blame Honda when it was Taliban-like (democrats) exercise in coercive government forcing the EV requirements and regulations on the manufacturers in the hopes of mandating their use by the general public. Honda's history in the auto industry demonstrates a keen understanding of consumer preferences. In the democrat version of "democracy" they know better than Adam Smith's "Invisible Hand," a metaphor that describes the incentives which free markets often create for self-interested people to coincidently act in the public interest. The huge soft spot democrats have for Islamic theocracies and Marxism/communism can be understood as simply a quest for the power to force their political/economic choices on the population at large.

There is an old joke about a corporate sales meeting where the CEO is berating his sales force because their new dog food isn't selling. He extols all the virtues of the new product...nutrition, price, packaging. He ends his talk with shouting, "Now why can't we sell it!". One old salesman stands up in the back and replies, "Because the damned dogs don't like it"!
It's the same with EVS, most dogs (customers) don't like them.

The only good news in this story is that apparently Honda pulled the plug (hah!) on this before they actually built any cars. Spent tons on design, prototyping and apparently setting up factories, and suppliers. Doesn't look like any cars were actually built.

Not only do I not want an electric engine - I don't want a big touch screen in the middle of the dash board requiring me to take my eyes off the road to change the AC. I don't need radar telling me about cars around me especially if it's going to cost thousands to repair. I don't want turbo chargers because they are for race cars. etc
