Congress lurched a day closer to a partial government shutdown on Wednesday after Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) laid out a list of major reforms that Democrats want to make to the Department of Homeland Security, proposals that will likely encounter resistance from President Trump. Democrats say they will block the six-bill government funding package the Senate will vote on Thursday, which includes the Homeland Security appropriations bill, putting Washington on the brink of another shutdown less than three months after the longest shutdown in American history.

Re #2 - Yes Congress members do get paid during a shutdown. Please see: https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/house-bill/3538 And I'll be damned if my new Governor didn't propose this legislation while still in Congress.

Here we go again. Our government knows they do not have the money for all their spending. Our country is a house of cards, and they are just keeping it from imploding on their watch. It's all a scam. All those fake LA hospices think they are entitled to free government money and the crooks in government think they are entitled to their kickbacks for making it happen. That's just one of thousands of examples. Btw, anyone else notice food prices going up again? Our government is using inflation to make up for the debt. Our government probably does not have a choice. Our government keeps on spending more. It's both parties. It cannot go on, and neither party seems willing to address it. Probably because too many crooks are influencing our government. Our government is corrupt.

Suicidal Empathy': Is the West Committing Suicide-by-Compassion? 8 replies
Posted by FlyRight 1/30/2026 5:48:19 AM Post Reply
According to [Gad] Saad's thesis, empathy becomes misdirected into a type of benevolent altruism that prioritizes the perceived feelings and needs of "marginalized" or external groups at the expense of the survival, security, and interests of one's own group and its values. The outcome is the weakening, and ultimately the destruction, of the very civilization that expressed this emotion. The problem? This concept of suicidal empathy unfortunately does not work. As the term predicts, it ends up killing its host. What we observe, however, in many people, is a highly selective empathy, precisely the opposite of caring about everyone.

The arrest of narco-dictator Nicolas Maduro, the quarantine imposed on Venezuela’s oil industry and the collapse of the European Union’s “renewable energy” strategy all have raised a big question in the minds of many Americans: What role should foreign energy play in our policy efforts? This month’s I&I/TIPP Poll’s online national survey of 1,478 adults, taken from Jan. 6 to Jan 9, provides a very clear answer: Access to foreign crude oil and other energy sources is very important to a majority of Americans. The poll’s margin of error is +/-2.9 percentage points.

Radical leftist agitators ambushed a Los Angeles Police Commission meeting Tuesday, screaming obscenities at officers and accusing the department of being murderers — before viciously turning on a California Post journalist. Around 40 agitators — many of them obscuring their identity with medical masks or keffiyeh scarves — chanted “F–k the police,” assailed officers as “pigs” and shouted anti-law enforcement slogans as their increasingly disruptive antics ground the proceedings to a halt until order was restored a short time later. The unhinged radicals tried to use their intimidation tactics against Post reporter Jamie Paige, who was covering the public meeting, peppering her with insults and attempting to physically block her camera

This level of engineered chaos is unique to Minneapolis. It is the direct consequence of far left agitators, working with local authorities,” Vance wrote in a social media post: His comments came after a Border Patrol agent-involved shooting occurred in the city Saturday, which set off more chaos and saw crowds fill the streets, Breitbart News reported. “What began as a rapid gathering of onlookers quickly devolved into a volatile confrontation, with agitators blocking roads, surrounding vehicles, and forcing federal officers into defensive positions amid a fast‑escalating wave of unrest,” the outlet said.

will spare you a discussion of the hows and whys of my discovery of it, but a little more than a decade ago, I discovered one of the most interesting and informative little books I have ever read. As a student of American politics and public policy and an analyst specializing in the intersection of politics and markets, it’s a book I’d never expected to read, much less to find as fascinating and edifying as I did. As (mostly bad) luck would have it, however, it’s also a tome that explains a great deal about what is going on in our country right now and offers practical advice—to both sides—

Independent journalist Cam Higby, on Saturday, blew the lid off the Minneapolis anti-ICE protests by revealing their training and communications methods, including some very interesting specifics. Mr. Higby also presents what is claimed to be the entire training manual for these patrols.: Both of these threads bear reading, but here are a few key points: These training materials and the setup of this online system indicate that someone with some money is behind all this. These materials mention "patrol training" and mention the use of the Signal chat system. Mr. Higby presents some rather sophisticated maps, with the city broken up into patrol zones, based loosely, they say,

The latter should be returned. The movie was filled with errors. Exalting the celluloid screed with an Academy Award for best documentary is the equivalent of handing the Nobel Peace Prize to a terrorist, an incompetent, a fraud, an unaccomplished charlatan, and, yes, Gore himself, because it was far more a faux-umentary than an honest account of the facts. In the same year that Gore was given his participation trophy,
