D.C.'s Power To Challenge Trump In Jeopardy
After Guard Ruling

D.C. is "a federal district created by Congress, rather than a constitutionally sovereign entity," Judge Patricia Millet wrote in a Dec. 17 order. "The President's order implicates a strong and distinctive interest in the protection of federal governmental functions and property within the nation's capital." (snip) Judges Gregory Katsas and Naomi Rao went further in a concurrence asserting D.C. doesn't have standing to sue the federal government since it is a creation of the same government it is attempting to sue. (snip) [I]f the reasoning expressed in it is upheld on appeal, it could trim the powers of whoever replaces current Mayor Muriel Bowser (snip.)

Comments:

The Democratic Socialists of America are on track to replace Bowser with an even zanier version of NYC's Mamdani. President Trump and Congress should avoid this embarrassment by ending the farce of "D.C. home rule" before the election cycle begins.

It's pretty obvious after almost 50 years (lots of people don't remember that it was Jimmuh Carter who pledged and got it pushed through Congress) that "home rule" is a colossal failure in DC and that its governing structure should be reverted back to that of a Congressionally-appointed city manager. All "home rule" has done is to turn DC into a blue hell hole when administrative competence is needed for the federal government to operate. Those who want to continue living on urban plantations run by Democrats can move to nearby Baltimore, where they will fit right in.

Some people who have the opportunity of self-government choose to live in a sewer. Unacceptable for the nation’s capital.

Take away all vestiges of home rule from the District and go back to the 5 man Commission they used to have and tell Eleanor Holmes Norton to take a hike.

For a peek into how California Governor Gavin Newsom would rule the country if elected President, look no further than his California Agricultural Land Equity Task Force. This ambiguous agency was buried within the state budget in 2022 during Newsom's statewide Covid lockdown, when media was not allowed near the governor or Legislature. (snip) The report the Equity Task Force recently released recommending a land grab from white farmers reads like a "How To" Marxism 101 manual at UC Berkeley. (snip) This comprehensive business plan requires more illegal reparations in the form of hostile land "takings" seizures, this time for "indigenous" tribes and farm workers.

Democrats are allowing people to be murdered by illegal immigrants so they can brag that they are not cooperating with [ICE]. This is the reality of the most recent case in Fairfax County, Virginia. There, El Salvadoran national Marvin Morales Ortez had been charged with multiple crimes after "maliciously wounding" someone he was living in the same home with. When the alleged victim did not show up to testify, Commonwealth Attorney Steve Descanso's office dropped the charges, and a judge ordered Ortez to be released. He was then arrested after allegedly murdering the same person he had injured (snip.)

Covid-19 -- and less frequently, the mRNA-based Covid-19 vaccine -- can cause inflamed heart tissue in some people. A new study implicates a pair of substances secreted by immune cells and proposes a strategy to mitigate the vaccine effect. (snip) Vaccine-associated myocarditis occurs in about one in every 140,000 vaccinees after a first dose and rises to one in 32,000 after a second dose. For reasons that aren't clear, incidence peaks among male vaccinees age 30 or below, at one in 16,750 vaccinees. Contrary to conventional economic wisdom and warnings from critics on the left and many economists that cutting interest rates while imposing broad tariffs would inevitably stoke inflation, the Trump administration is achieving all three simultaneously -- with the Federal Reserve lowering rates, significant tariffs in place and inflation cooling to 2.7% as of late 2025. (snip) The Consumer Price Index report for November 2025, released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, showed headline inflation cooling to 2.7% (snip.) Arizona Republican Rep. Abe Hamadeh has introduced legislation that would add a question about dual citizenship to the decennial U.S. Census. The bill, Make Allegiances Clear Again Act (MACA Act), aims to shed light on what Hamadeh describes as a hidden national security risk: divided loyalties among U.S. citizens who also hold citizenship in foreign countries. This, he contends, distorts representation and funding decisions.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has agreed to hold elections if there is a ceasefire. However, eastern Ukraine citizens, those currently living in the Donbas region, who are supportive of Russia, will not be permitted to vote. This creates a rather bizarre official hypocrisy within the Zelenskyy regime. The official position of Zelenskyy is that Eastern Ukraine will never be accepted as a part of the Russian federation. Zelenskyy has recently noted, with EU leadership support, that his government will never recognize Eastern Ukraine as part of the Russian federation. However, this same region, approximately 20% of Ukraine, will not be permitted to participate in his controlled election.

Much of the mainstream news this week has been, in my opinion, partisan or devoted to less-than-significant matters. Does it really matter if the Trump-appointed board that saved the Kennedy Center from going to wrack and ruin has added his name to the building? Were you really surprised that Bill Clinton, not Trump, was pictured in the released Epstein files cavorting with women whose faces were blacked out because they were either minors or victims? (Snip) I think the important and underreported stories of the week, are different -- the growing fractures in the European Union and the Administration’s lowering the boom on richly rewarded migration sponsors.
