Labour’s National Curriculum Review
Repeats All the Usual Left-Wing Mistakes

While there is much to agree with in the final report of the review of the English national curriculum, titled ‘Building a world-class curriculum for all’, there is also much of concern. Descriptions like “crucial knowledge”, “critical knowledge” and “knowledge-rich”, while clichéd, represent a welcome focus on content instead of vacuous inquiry-based, process and child-centred learning. The report is correct when it argues, “In a world of rapid technological, environmental and social change, subject-specific knowledge remains the best investment.” Similarly, the report’s suggestion that skills and capabilities “arise from and are situated within, a knowledge-rich Curriculum” is welcomed as cognitive research has long proven this is the most effective way to learn.

Welcome to "The New Monroe Doctrine," where I give you an update on what's going on in the Western Hemisphere, south of our border, especially as it relates to the United States. First of all, I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving. I took the day off and cooked for eight hours, and my brain is still in some sort of turkey and pecan pie-induced coma, so bear with me here. I almost took the week off, but there are things that I feel are important to mention before we head into the weekend... and December. Venezuela Venezuela is dominating the news cycle, and rightfully so.

The Justice Department’s prosecution of former FBI Director James Comey is facing death by a thousand procedural errors. Federal judges overseeing the criminal case have increasingly raised concerns about the department’s efforts to investigate and indict the adversary of President Trump, from the evidence presented to grand jurors to the prosecutor who made the government’s case. Any one of the issues could do away with Comey’s charges before he’s ever put on trial. “This is what happens when you try to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear,” said Barbara McQuade, a former U.S. attorney.

Two months ago today, people who enjoy comedy breathed a sigh of relief when Disney suspended low-rated late-night “comedian” Jimmy Kimmel for what he’d said, and planned to say, about Charlie Kirk’s murder. Less than a week later, Kimmel was back on the air. In between was an orgy of leftist outrage about how President Donald Trump was somehow responsible for forcing Kimmel off the air, that this was yet another sign of authoritarianism on the march, and “the mask of ‘free speech’ coming off for good.” Our favorite was a warning from “actor” Mark Ruffalo,

We've learned quite a few details in the day since Gavin Newsom's chief of staff, Dana Williamson, was charged with 23 federal felonies in a public corruption scheme. According to the indictment, Williamson and multiple co-conspirators, including then-HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra's chief of staff Sean McCluskie, schemed "to divert approximately $225,000 in funds from a dormant political campaign to an associate’s personal use." But there's a lot more to Williamson's indictment. Let's break it down. Tax Fraud When the original story hit, a common reaction was, "Why would she risk everything to essentially embezzle $225,000 for a friend?"

New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s radical policy proposals have prompted high-profile restaurateur Stratis Morfogen to cancel plans to open new businesses. He told Side Dish he’s pulling the plug on three new establishments, including one in Midtown West. “I waited for the election before signing and now I’m not signing,” he said. Just last week, Morfogen opened his first restaurant in Miami. He is also planning to open Diner24 in Miami in 2026. “I’m not signing any more leases in New York,” Morfogen vowed. “I’ll keep what I have. We’re not expanding in New York but we are pursuing further opportunities in Miami and other cities.

A new documentary about the Palisades Fire of January shows California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass touring the Pacific Palisades as it burns behind them — with a contingent of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters accompanying them instead of fighting the blaze. The film, “Paradise Abandoned,” scheduled for release in December, is a reminder that the Palisades Fire will continue to haunt Bass as she seeks re-election — and Newsom as he seeks the presidency. Newsom addressed adoring crowds of Democrats in Houston over the weekend, even picking up a presidential endorsement or two, though he has not yet officially launched his campaign.

She was first elected to the US House of Representatives in 2015. The 80-year-old Democrat served over 50 years in public service in New Jersey. Recall that Bonnie Watson Coleman was one of the New Jersey Democrats who stormed the Delaney Hall Detention Center earlier this year.

Mr Trump has fired off a legal letter after it emerged Panorama had selectively edited his speech before the 2021 Capitol riot to remove a section where he told supporters to demonstrate peacefully. A BBC spokesman said: “We will review the letter and respond directly in due course.” The revelation comes shortly after Mr Shah used his first remarks since the resignations of Director General Tim Davie and Head of News Deborah Turness to mount a defence of the corporation. Mr Shah accused Michael Prescott, who wrote a critical memo that ultimately prompted the resignations, of offering a “personal account” which gives only a “partial” view of events.

After doing my best to ignore the latest Tucker Carlson saga, I find I must say something. "Go the hell away," for starters. I'd said pretty much everything I thought I'd ever need to say about Carlson early last year, following his context-free interview with Palestinian Authority propagandist Reverend Munther Isaac. So when the current brouhaha broke out over his kid-glove treatment of neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes, I did my best to ignore it. Yes, even though Fuentes is the guy who rants that "Jews are running society" and that women and blacks should be silenced or imprisoned.

Democrats dominated the first major Election Day since President Donald Trump returned to the White House. And while a debate about the future of the Democratic Party may have only just begun, there are signs that the economy — specifically, Trump’s inability to deliver the economic turnaround he promised last fall — may be a real problem for Trump’s GOP heading into next year’s higher-stakes midterm elections. Democrats on Tuesday won governor’s races in Virginia and New Jersey, the only states electing new chief executives this year. They also swept a trio of state Supreme Court contests in swing-state Pennsylvania and ballots measures from Colorado to Maine.

The New York City mayoral race and the New Jersey’s governor’s race is one of those times when the Jewish vote actually matters and the skew of the Jewish vote looks nothing like the stereotypes. President Trump personally reached out to the Orthodox Jewish community in New Jersey, urging, “I need all of my supporters in the orthodox community in Lakewood and its surrounding towns to vote in huge numbers for Jack Ciattarelli. Jack needs every single Vote in the community, including all the Yeshiva students who turned out to vote for me last year.”

The search for peace in Ukraine continued to be elusive. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s political career flamed out. Six Democratic politicians encouraged service members to engage in insurrection.
