It appears that there may be a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine in the works, which could bring an end to the Russo-Ukrainian War, which has been going on since 2022, when Russia invaded eastern Ukraine. This war could be said to have been ongoing, in fact, since Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula and seizure of the port of Sevastopol in 2014.
Ukrainian officials are reporting that talks have been held between Ukrainian, Russian, and American officials, and the "core elements" of a peace deal have been agreed upon.
Ukraine has agreed to the core elements of a peace proposal brokered by the Trump administration, with some details

The only thing worse than a liar is a liar that’s also a hypocrite!
—Tennessee Williams, The Rose Tattoo
Question for the audience: If you asked Tucker Carlson if the United States of America should offer Israel an ironclad, open-and-shut, unequivocal war guarantee, how would he respond?
You have three options:
Option One: “Why, sure! What a wonderful idea! Israel is America’s ally. Hey, what’s the worst that could happen?”
Option Two: “Hmm, let me think about it and get back to you.”
Option Three: “Absolutely NOT, you anti-American, Israel-first, disloyal neocon! No more forever wars! No more AIPAC influence! No more Middle East entanglements! It’s not in our national interest, you warmonger! For the

Meta knowingly downplayed the addictive nature of social media products that its own researchers privately compared to drugs as part of a broader effort to conceal the impacts of its platforms on teenage mental health, according to an explosive new court filing.
The brief was filed as part of a years-old lawsuit brought by school districts across the country alleging that social media companies including Meta, YouTube, TikTok, and Snap knowingly designed products that would addict teenagers and otherwise harm their mental health. A judge ordered the 5,807 page filing to be declassified on October 30.

A temporary glitch on X led to a credibility bloodbath for a variety of foreign propaganda accounts that were either posing as Americans or lying about their locations in other ways.
Days prior, Head of Product Nikita Brier had announced a new feature revealing the origin and current location of users. When it rolled out, though, only account owners could view it. That all changed on Friday night, though. In what is assumed to have been a mistake, everyone's origins and current locations were made public for about an hour before disappearing.

For months, Donald Trump warned New Yorkers against electing Zohran Mamdani as mayor, referring to him as a “communist lunatic.” Mamdani, meanwhile, called Trump a “despot.”
All of that was put aside in an extraordinary Oval Office get-together Friday, the first face-to-face meeting between the two men.
Trump, who sought to kneecap Mamdani during the campaign, was exceedingly complimentary of the self-described democratic socialist, while Mamdani repeatedly talked up his hope that he and the president could work together to lower costs for New Yorkers.
“I met with a man who’s a very rational person,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office following the private

The U.N. climate talks COP30 were hastily evacuated Thursday night due to a fire breaking out inside the venue in Belém, Brazil.
Smoke, flames, and a rise in temperature engulfed the pavilion area as panicked attendees rushed outside to be met by fire crews entering the stricken zone.
Reuters reports security footage showed flames spreading rapidly up an internal fabric shell that lined the walls and ceiling of the building before being extinguished.
Thirteen people were treated for smoke inhalation at the venue, organizers said, as thousands of delegates were evacuated as security staff formed a human barrier across the hallway.

House Democratic leaders, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, contacted the U.S. Capitol Police and the House sergeant-at-arms to request protection for four representatives who appeared in a video message encouraging military troops to defy orders from their superiors that they deem illegal.
Reps. Chris Deluzio (PA-17), Chrissy Houlahan (PA-6), Maggie Goodlander (NH-2), and Jason Crow (CO-6), along with Sens. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) and Mark Kelly (D-AZ), tried agitating some troops and intelligence officials into potentially illegal actions of their own by defying orders they personally interpret as unlawful. It was a startling effort. The message was clear. They laid it out quite clearly, referencing "this administration" and how it

The Biden Justice Department secretly obtained more than two years worth of Representative Jim Jordan’s (R., Ohio) phone records during its sweeping investigation into the role President Donald Trump played in the Capitol riot.
Without his knowledge, the Biden administration targeted Jordan’s phone records weeks after the Biden administration launched its “Arctic Frost” investigation, according to records Jordan released Thursday night as part of his investigation into the role Verizon and AT&T played in “Arctic Frost.”

Male inmates at an all-female prison in Fort Worth, Texas, are temporarily restricted from entering or using female-only private areas, a judge decided this week. It is the first time a federal court has ruled that male inmates must be sex-segregated in women’s prisons.
The Federal Medical Center, Carswell is a formerly women-only prison in Texas that currently houses several men who identify as women. FMC Carswell recently housed dozens of people who identify as trans or intersex, according to a federal report.
Female inmates have for years petitioned the state to separate trans-identifying men from women’s private spaces.

With a little less than a year to go before the 2026 midterm elections, a Marist Poll shows Democrats leading Republicans by a massive +14 points in the generic ballot.
“Democrats currently have a 14-point lead against the Republicans among registered voters nationally on the 2026 generic congressional ballot question,” writes Marist. “This has changed considerably. Since 2022, voters have been divided about which party’s candidate they would support.”
This, even though those polled “place most of the blame for the shutdown on congressional Democrats.” Still, “six in ten [blame] either the President or the GOP in Congress.”
