Obama’s final booby trap

Original Article

In the final days of the Obama presidency — while Americans were focused on inaugurating a new president and turning the page on a divisive era — President Barack Obama signed a quiet but sweeping executive order that many now see as a ticking time bomb planted in the heart of our Intelligence Community. On January 3, 2017, just 17 days before Donald Trump’s inauguration, Obama signed a modification to Executive Order 12333, authorizing the National Security Agency (NSA) to share raw signals intelligence (SIGINT) with all 16 other intelligence agencies — including the FBI, the CIA, and even obscure agencies like the Drug Enforcement Administration’s intel wing.

I have read that EOs can be cancelled by a succeeding President. It sounds like this one should have been nullified in PDJT's first term; but certainly now.

I find it hard to believe that in this case SIGINT does not also include COMINT. COMINT is the passing of information between two parties. It is one of the most tightly guarded interception methods because careless handling of COMINT endangers the techniques and lives of the interceptors. If COMINT is freely thrown around between so many communities we're running around with our pants down.

My understanding is the COMINT (as well as ELINT) are subsets of SIGINT. Thus, likely included. Obama institutionalized Alinsky tactics and radicalized the federal bureaucracy. The media were all too eager to go along. Trump leaned a lot from his first term and is taking on the Deep State at its most vulnerable point - funding. We’ll see if that is effective.

This would not be a problem if people within the many intelligence-gathering specialties could be trusted and if the NSA itself could be trusted, Unfortunately, their security clearances do not prevent them from abusing the information and leaking it to the press for political purposes. Once in a while, they make an example of somebody who takes a picture of a wall in a submarine and shares it with his mother just to let you know they are serious.

The 'Right to Privacy' is largely non-existent. Abuse it, you lose it. We are losing our rights and freedoms in front of our very eyes. We see criminals hiding behind their so-called privacy and taking it away from anyone they view as their enemy. Especially anyone that might hold them accountable.

Why doesn't Trump just cancel that Executive Order? These can be reversed immediately by the next President. Another good one would be the Bush (senior) EO to end importation of any and all military type rifles.

Zohran Mamdani just offered fresh proof of his deep anti-cop bigotry with his call to shift key powers to discipline officers to the Civilian Complaint Review Board. It’s a terrible fix for a problem that doesn’t exist — and one that would lead to worse policing, and so more crime; it would likely even produce a force with far more bad cops. “What I would do is ensure that the recommendations of the CCRB be understood to be the final voice of the question of accountability,” Mamdani says — without pointing to any actual bad results of the current law, which gives final say to the police commissioner.

The federal government has shut down, readers, and that’s as close as I get to a “snow day” around here at National Review. Nobody’s budging on their negotiating position in Washington for the time being, and we’ve all placed our bets on who’s going to catch the blame. (My position: While this will likely factor into Virginia’s statewide elections in November, it will have no effect on 2026 either way.) Meanwhile, I’m still trying to convince my editors that as long as the feds are on strike I qualify for a fully paid vacation. (Surely I am the living definition of a “nonessential worker,” no?)

Keir Starmer strayed into fantasy when he claimed Channel migrants come to Britain aboard “Farage boats” and cannot be removed from this country due to Brexit. The Prime Minister’s claim is preposterous and simply not grounded in fact, as even impartial observers agree. When he referred to pre-Brexit Britain having “a returns agreement with every country in the EU” he was referencing the Dublin Agreement, which was supposed to facilitate asylum seekers being sent back to other European Union countries through which they had travelled. But, put simply, the Dublin Agreement did not work.

Following the midterm “shellacking” of 2010, President Obama and Eric Holder began the “secret research project” targeting political opposition using the IRS. DOJ asked the IRS for the donor data of all supporters to conservative groups. [Schedule B’s of 501c(3)(4)]. The IRS was used to identify targets 2011 and 2012, until discovered April ’12. President Obama has a problem. President Obama then sends his Chief of Staff, Jack Lew, to run the IRS and block discoveries around the IRS weaponization. From 2012 through April 2016, the Obama administration then began spying on political opposition, using the FBI to conduct surveillance through their access to the NSA database.

American support for Israel is plummeting — but remains largely steady among Republicans, a new poll revealed Monday. The drop is almost entirely to a precipitous decline in support for Israel among Democrats. The New York Times/Sienna poll was reported under the headline, “Americans’ Support for Israel Dramatically Declines, Times/Siena Poll Finds.” However, the real news was buried, paragraphs later: Much of the shift in views on Israel has been driven by a sharp decline in support by Democratic voters. Republicans largely continue to support Israel, though there has been a modest decline.

Having grown up Catholic, and having attended Catholic mass quite recently, I feel particular sadness over the following story. In fact, it reminded me of why I once turned to one of history’s greatest Anglicans, the legendary Christian author C.S. In a video posted to YouTube on Tuesday, a reporter from the Catholic television network EWTN asked Pope Leo XIV to help people of faith understand a decision by Cardinal Blase Cupich, Archbishop of Chicago, to honor pro-abortion Democratic Sen. The fraud, uncovered in a September sweep, came in all kinds — sham marriages, fake death certificates and “other bizarre schemes,” as US Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Joseph Edley put it. But the revelation was no great surprise to those of us who have followed the settlement of some 100,000 Somali immigrants in Minnesota over the past three decades. As far back as 2008, the State Department temporarily suspended one of the family reunification programs used by Somali immigrants when DNA testing of applicants

It was the direct consequence of his bold refusal to bend before one of the most aggressive and destabilizing ideologies of our time: transgender radicalism. For years, Kirk warned about the dangers of this movement. Not just its cultural consequences, but the deeper crisis of mental illness and violence it has unleashed across the nation. In the end, his voice was silenced by precisely the pestilence he spent his career opposing. The facts are painfully clear. On Sept. 13, 2025, police captured Tyler Robinson, a 22-year-old suspect
