The United States Postal Service (USPS) is planning to temporarily raise the prices of some of its mail services for the upcoming holiday season, the agency said in an Aug. 8 statement. “The planned peak-season pricing, which was approved by the governors of the Postal Service on Aug. 7, would affect prices on the following retail and commercial domestic competitive parcels: Priority Mail Express (PME), Priority Mail (PM), USPS Ground Advantage, and Parcel Select,” USPS said. “No other products or services would be affected,” it added.

Comments:

When we send Christmas cards, they go online..Gifts to family are the one-size-fits-all paper kind. We try to use USPS as little as possible.

Oddly enough it won't help service. I was a bit surprised recently. A friend mailed a birthday card to me from half way across the country. It arrived 21days later. Go figure.

Where I live now, we can go several days without any mail, then suddenly get a fistful. The old US mail just 'ain't what it used to be.'

The last time I used USPS to send a Christmas package was around 2015. I sent it priority mail from Maryland to Pennsylvania. It took 9 weeks to arrive. My local mail service is as rare as a dodo.

I hope Trump privatizes the USPS. It is 50-50 to send a check by USPS, as their employees in states across the nation have been stealing them. Volumes are down a lot, as people use any alternative to avoid the USPS.

If you think USPS prices are too high, take a look at UPS. They're at least 75% - 300% higher depending on the service, at least with the 6 lb package I was sending. However, their packages get there on-time. A few months ago I sent a package with Priority Mail 2-Day; it took 9 days to get from Ft. Worth to Cleveland.

It will be successful and allowed to continued in the future. Like mass transit: raise prices and fewer people use the service. Then the revenue falls again. Rinse and repeat.

In 2020 a First Class stamp was 55 ¢. Now its 78 ¢. That's a huge increase - mostly due to Bidenflation. But they are now addicted to raising the price every chance possible.

Rather than raise rates, why don't you root out the corrupt and indolent 50% of your workforce! The USPS has been the employer of last resort for a 100 years, their only societal beefier is that it keeps some off unemployment line. What an EXPENSIVE way to provide handouts to the unemployable!

A career intelligence officer who worked for ADemocrats on the House Intelligence Committee for more than a decade repeatedly warned the FBI beginning in 2017 that then-Rep. After the film “Oppenheimer” released in July 2023, the national conversation returned to whether or not the development of the atomic bomb was prudent, and, furthermore, if dropping the nuclear weapon twice on Japan was necessary. These are not new conversations. The questions posed now were posed by prior generations dating back to 1945. Some of these arguments will, perhaps, remain perpetually and be discussed for decades without any consensus, but some of these arguments have been fully debunked. Barrett Tillman, World War II scholar and the author of dozens of military works, including “When the Shooting Stopped: August 1945,” discusses a number of these issues on a The Sons
