The Trump administration imposed new restrictions Saturday on flights from Mexico and threatened to end a longstanding partnership between Delta Air Lines and Aeromexico in response to limits the Mexican government placed on passenger and cargo flights into Mexico City several years ago.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Mexico’s actions to force airlines to move out of the main Benito Juarez International Airport to the newer Felipe Angeles International Airport more than 30 miles away violated a trade agreement between the two countries and gave domestic airlines an unfair advantage.

We need tourism, which provides a huge injection of wealth. The $250 to get a tourist visa is a bad idea. Thread lightly, we already have Mexico on the canvas.

Great news. My first introduction to real crime began on my first trip to Mexico city. Theft right inside the airport, crooked and deceptive taxi drivers, violence and mugging right outside the front door. Unsafe food and water. Those are not good people.

It’s hard for me to imagine that forty million Americans a year are still going to Mexico. I understand the attraction; I always enjoyed Puerto Vallarta and Playa Del Carmen, but that was 20 years ago. Those places are all now controlled by the drug cartels. I wouldn’t go to Mexico now if you paid me.

My cruise ship docked off Playa del Carmen in 1977. I walked alone around the town, and a bit outside of town. I had almost no ability in Spanish. Everyone was so nice, and at no time was safety even a consideration. At one point, I got a bit lost, and had to ask a nice older gentleman for directions back. I knew enough to say: Por favor, Viejo, donde es la Playa? My knowledge of phonetics was excellent, and as a result, my pronunciation was very good. But he took it that I would understand the couple sentences of his reply; I didn't. Fortunately, pointing is a universal language. A beautiful place; glad I went when I did.

Arthur is a weird Presidential story. He became president because the Prez was assassinated. Specifically, Garfield intended to reform the spoils system, but this was divisive within his party, as the Republicans being victors in the Civil War had control of everything and wanted to keep it that way. So candidate Garfield "Reached Out" and chose a VP from the opposite, no-reform wing, who loated him. Well after the election, one of those shot Garfield Thus getting the Presidency he wanted. Watch who you put in the line of successioh after you! And then, as the history books tell it, Arthur turned out to be a reformer after all, but as this article reminds us, not really. Moral is, US history is replete with lessons of current value.
