A man has died after getting sucked into an MRI machine.
The accident occurred on July 16 at the Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, New York, according to a press release from the Nassau County Police Department in Long Island. Officers responded to a 911 call at around 4:30 p.m. at the MRI center, which provides diagnostic radiology services. "Upon arrival, officers were informed that a male, 61, entered an unauthorized Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) room while the scan was in progress," the release stated.

Can’t believe they don’t or didn’t have this section more secure. Shouldn’t be that easy for an uninformed person to just wander in.

The places where I have been have latered rooms, signs and staff warning you about any metal. Sounds like this guy barged in and ignored the warnings.

The protocol is strict. The prescreening is meticulous. And when I'd be with my husband they would take me through the detailed Q&A. The rooms are layered with the equipment room the innermost. He didn't just wander there. He went there deliberately.

Reports yesterday say the wife was having a panic attack, started screaming, the husband pushed away staff and forced his way into the room. The wife said today, after setting up a gofundme, that he always came with her and no one warned him about his chain on this visit. That's pretty clear indication that he'd been told on prior trips not to go near the machinery wearing a 20-pound chain. Yes, a 20-pound chain which he claimed to use for weight lifting.

In most cases, these places are fairly deep in the hospital. The guy didn't belong there, and paid for it.

#6, The MAGNETIC Resonance Imaging machine affects ferromagnetic metals, that is iron, steel, cobalt and nickel.
Somehow, this doesn't seem like personal jewelry he just forgot to take off.

She claims "He ALWAYS came in with me, while wearing the Chain..." Except...IF that were true it would have sucked him onto the magnets before..

Thanks for the plausible explanation, #6, otherwise too much stupid to go around until panic/barge-in scenario.

This is horrific and yeah, just extremely sad. That said the wife and the daughter both mentioned more than once that he had worn the chain before and had been told before that he shouldn't do that, and why. If that's the case, why would he wear it there again? I'm not saying there's no culpability where the technician is concerned, but why would the guy keep wearing it there when he knew that it was dangerous?

Another article says he wore a "20 lb metal chain" around his neck. That is literally a big loop of logging chain.
WHAT???

It must have been a chain capable of towing a car. All chains around a human body should be of a maximum strength and can be broken if pulled on fairly hard.

Immediately set up a gofundme account. At this stage I’m sure there’s been no discussion of fees and the investigation is still incomplete. Sounds suspiciously planned.

Thhose who read the article will find that he was brought into the MRI room to assist his wife who was having an MRI of her knee. He was wearing a 20 lb chain that she says he wore for "weight training ". He ended up stuuck to the outside of the machine and suffered heart attacks that killed him. Both he and his wife are pictured but no chain. A very strange story.
