Elon Musk’s tirade against President Donald Trump’s "big, beautiful bill" has forced House Republicans to scramble to respond on Wednesday.
GOP lawmakers who had spent months praising Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) efforts are now working to avoid a war of words with the tech billionaire as he calls on them to scrap months of work in favor of a new budget reconciliation bill.
"He didn’t make it any easier for the bill," Rep. Scott Fitzgerald, R-Wis., told Fox News Digital.
He noted that the bill also had its opponents in the Senate, where at least three fiscal hawks are calling for deeper cuts

If Republicans had been doing their jobs the last 50 years, they would not have to be rattled by Musk telling the truth, something unfamiliar in DC.

A bill htat is 70-80% of what you want is often the best that can be done at a particular time. More later, second bite.

President Trump spoke of the bill, and the Media keep calling it 'Trump's Bill', but President Trump did not write it. It was written by the Republicans in the House.
Here is a link to the text of the bill.
I did not think of trying to read the whole thing, but one can skim through the couple-of-pages-long list of headings pretty easily. It's a big bill, and there is a LOT of stuff in it.
I think there is a lot of good. I am concerned that it may continue adding to the debt, but I do not trust the 'non-partisan' Congressional Budget Office analysis, as someone did a cross-check between CBO personnel and political donations, and found that MANY CBO personnel contributed to the 'Rats, but NO CBO personnel contributed to the Pubbies. Add to that the CBO does not have a good record of accurately predicting the financial effect of legislation.
If the bill's backers can convincingly show that it will balance the budget, or at least go a good ways toward doing that, then I think it has a good chance of passing, and a good chance of having a good effect on the country.

It should get interesting now. If the Repubs can't keep the tax cuts it will give the Dems a fighting chance in 2028 and, for sure, in 2026. The tax cuts increased revenues not debt.

The bill should have been split from the beginning. Pass all of the spending cuts and tax breaks first, which would have gone through as smoothly as greased lightning and instilled confidence in the process. Then take your time on the new spending if you must. The growing deficit gives the democrats and the media fodder to use against the GOP. Surely there is one person out of 535 who thought of that?

Well I for one now feel better about the BBB. Trump is touting Liz Warren and her support of eliminating the debt ceiling entirely. I am sleeping peacefully know that the worst deficit spenders are teaming up. Then Trump will try and primary any Republican that opposes the insane spending.
This thing is going to pass with Dem votes after a couple of minor changes or maybe not so minor. When your dollar is worth even less next year, just console yourself that Don probably will have done a little "Macho Man" dance when he signs this into law.

Sorry for this long post, but this is what happens when brilliant people get involved in the putrid stew that is politics. Both Trump and Musk are entrepreneurs who think big, act boldly and swiftly with brilliant end results. Trump has learned how to navigate the stew, but Musk's energy, personality and success cannot tolerate the insipid, cowardly, cringing cowards, i.e., republicans diddling with this bill. Trump and Musk understand this is a one time opportunity to make an impact on the hurtling train wreck that is our nation's fiscal finances. And Musk cannot abide by the people who have the responsibility for tackling this tragedy hiding under their beds.
I think Trump and Musk worked this out ahead of time and Musk is doing exactly what Trump wants him to do, hopefully embarrass and shake these cowards up. In the speech that President Trump made I believe at West Point a few weeks ago he advised the cadets that part of big success is never losing momentum. He cited a famous deal real estate developer that lost the momentum of his business and lost everything. Elon Musk and DOGE have provided huge momentum for this nation finally to tackle the obscene, wasteful and profligate spending bankrupting our nation and the cowardly republicans are doing everything they can to stop that momentum. And I believe Trump and Elon understand how dangerous that is to this nation's future. If huge inroads and reductions are not made with this Big, Beautiful Bill, then it might be impossible to try to solve this very dangerous problem for our country's existence. It's now or never!

I’ll bet they are “scrambling.” Congressional Republicans know that Elon Musk has enough money to primary every, single one of them.

#4 That's ridiculous. Musk has spent months calling attention to the fraud and abuse and showing where cuts need to be made only to see Republicans adding more spending to the bill.
I do not claim to know the complexities of this bill, but I'm not going to be in favor of it just because it's "Trump's" or a Republican bill. I know that the Senators that are opposed are fiscal conservatives who are alarmed about the dangers of going deeper in debt, as am I. But I'll admit that I don't know the ramifications if the bill passes or not.
#14, I hope you're right.
