Every time climate change is mentioned in a story, even features in a newspaper’s food or fashion pages, it is understood that humans are turning Earth into a muggy greenhouse by burning fossil fuel. As soon as Republicans mentioned cutting spending on Medicaid as part of their “reconciliation” bill, the usual suspects started rolling out their standard talking points. They’re cutting health care for the poor to pay for tax cuts for the rich! Millions will lose coverage! The disabled will suffer! Oh, the humanity!
Well, if the GOP is going to be accused of destroying Medicaid when all they are proposing is a minor haircut, why not go all out and scrap this hopelessly flawed, fraud-riddled, budget-busting disaster of a program and start over from scratch?

The United Nations is running short of cash. This is not a crisis but an opportunity. Please rid us of this meddlesome, venal and baleful organization.
The Economist reports that “internal modeling” at the U.N. “suggests that the year-end cash deficit will, without cuts, probably blow out to $1.1 billion, leaving it “without money to pay salaries and suppliers by September.”
Apparently “some members are paying their bills late and others not at all” and it is the U.S. and China that “are pushing it to the brink of financial collapse.”

Let’s get the big news out of the way: The economy shrank by 0.3% during the first quarter of 2025, a mild but not wholly unexpected drop blamed by nearly everyone on President Donald Trump’s tariff hikes. Is that the first step toward a recession, or, as Trump put it, just a result of the “Biden overhang”?

That’s fine. Trump is actually a very magnanimous fellow. What’s not fine are the talking heads concocting a false reality about Biden. Here are two of the talking points reverberating around the media eco-chambers: he is a decent man and a longtime public servant.
