Critics say bystanders stood by while
illegal migrant allegedly burned woman
to death on NYC subway: ‘Daniel Penny effect’

New Yorkers were up in arms Monday one day after an illegal Guatemalan immigrant allegedly burned a sleeping straphanger to death aboard a Brooklyn subway train — while bystanders did nothing. Horrifying video footage of the incident shows at least three gawkers — one of them seen filming the shocking fatal blaze on his phone — and an NYPD cop standing outside the subway car as flames engulfed the unidentified victim after the Sunday morning attack.“Nobody came to her aid,” said Guardian Angels founder and community activist Curtis Sliwa. “There’s no doubt that people don’t want to get involved. It’s the Daniel Penny factor. It’s frozen people.

While this sounds horrible, none of the bystanders knew if this maniac had a gun or knife to attack them with. And yes, the Daniel Penny effect. What a horrible way to die.

Daniel Penny is an outlier. The sad truth is the New Yorkers are far more likely to turn away and not get involved than they are to step in and assist. I've been hearing stories like this ou of New York all of my life, and I'm in my 60's.

God have mercy on that poor woman. How horrific. While I have in the past enjoyed many a trip and have a great admiration for the genuine American working and middle class people in the NE of this country, you could not pay me any amount of money to live above the Maison-Dixon line now. Savageries completely excused by the government elite authorities yet reviled by the populace committed by the unlawful and illegal are a daily occurrence there. Wake up sleepers... you are powerful. Stop taking what you have always been given. Honest working Americans deserve better!

The Most Politically Absurd Things Americans

Let’s face it, there was more than enough stupid to go around this year. If 2024 taught us anything, it’s that there is no bottom in matters of the politically absurd. Remember, somebody thought it was a good idea for Joe Biden to debate Donald Trump. Fani Willis thought her deadbeat paramour Nathan Wade was worth every dime. And Kristi Noem believed her Old Yeller moment would be endearing. But then again someone in the Trump transition team thought the dog-killing South Dakota governor and close personal friend of Corey Lewandowski would make a fine Homeland Security secretary, so clearly there’s no accounting for taste.

The vicious murder of a woman via immolation on the F train — allegedly by an illegal migrant — has brought New York’s total subway murders to match 2022’s 25-year high, with 10 for the year so far. That’s terrifying, but seemingly the new normal. So how does our fearless leader in Albany, Gov. Hochul, react?Well, on Sunday — the very day of the horrific arson-murder — she opted to brag about her supposed progress in reducing subway crime. “In March, I took action to make our subways safer for the millions of people who take the trains each day,” she tweeted. Now, “crime is going down, and ridership is going up.”

Amazon — founded by Jeff Bezos — and billionaire Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta just donated $1 million each for Trump to have an inauguration party and … nothing. Not a sound from scores of workers at either company who would typically resign, write open letters denouncing their employer, or otherwise whine anonymously to the New York Times or Bezos’ own newspaper, the Washington Post. It certainly hasn’t helped that the agency is spending $9.6 billion on a vehicle procurement plan that includes 66,000 electric vehicles. These vehicles are two to three times more expensive than their conventional counterparts, but that has somehow not deterred the USPS. [T]rying to reach a grand bargain with China — what [Trump] was hinting at — would be exactly the wrong approach at this or any other moment. Trump has already tried to reach an accommodation with China: his Phase One Trade pact of January 2020. He calls it "the best trade deal" ever, but it is now widely viewed as a bust. The Chinese, during an election year in America, never honored its terms. [Chinese President Xi Jinping's] actions are the inevitable result of China's communist political system, which idealizes violence, struggle, and domination. This system means there can be no accommodation with the Communist Party.
