Phillips 66 is closing Wilmington-area
refineries after more than a century,
marking the end of an era

For more than 100 years, the Wilmington and Carson oil refineries have pumped out millions of barrels of gasoline, filling the thirsty cars of Southern California’s freeway-driving motorists. Now, in an abrupt move that reflects the tectonic shifts driven by climate change, the transition to electric vehicles and demands for cleaner air, Phillips 66 announced Wednesday that late next year it is closing the twin-refinery complex that produces about 8% of the state’s gasoline. The Houston company, which has operated the refineries since its 2012 spin off from ConocoPhillips, said it will replace its output with sources “inside and outside its refining network” and with renewable

What happens when one of the remaining refineries goes off line, or throws in the towel? CA will have an acute fuel shortage and the citizens will suffer.

The lead paragraph strikes out: "...driven by climate change, the transition to electric vehicles and demands for cleaner air..." It's been a trend for refineries and producers of hydrocarbon fuel to leave the state because of burdensome Gov't taxes, regulations, and mandates. Fascism failing again.

Maybe Gruesome Newsom can take them over as state run refinery operations. They can run tours for folks to watch the idiocy in action. Stand up comics can apply as tour guides.

Interesting. Usually the refineries burn down for insurance reasons before the company bails to another state. Maybe Phillips is saving this one for Newsome to run for California - at least when it burns then we will know it was pure idiocy at work.

Stupid move considering that the oil and gas industry will be wide open again in a few months and those drivers of EVs will be dumping them soon for real cars.

A coalition of Muslim and Arab American leaders has expanded its movement into the swing states of Wisconsin and Georgia to keep Vice President Kamala Harris out of the White House, saying she is a “pro-genocide candidate.” The group, which operates as “Abandon Harris,” announced the push into the battleground states on Friday. It also plans an extensive get-out-the-vote effort to steer voters away from Ms. Harris and toward Jill Stein, the Green Party candidate whom Abandon Harris has endorsed. Hassan Abdel Salam, a spokesman for the group, said they cannot support Ms. Harris because she has not aggressively pushed for a permanent cease-fire in Gaza

HAVANA — A massive outage left millions of Cubans without power and prompted the government Friday to implement emergency measures to slash demand, including suspending classes, shutting down some state-owned workplaces and canceling non-essential services. Cuban officials said that the blackout, which started late Thursday, saw 1.64 gigawatts go offline during peak hours in the early evening, about half the total demand at the time. “The situation has worsened in recent days,” Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said in a special address on national television in the early hours of Friday. “We must be fully transparent ... we have been halting economic activities to ensure energy for the population.”

Four mysterious accounts have reportedly bet $30 million on Trump to win the presidency in November. Bettors on Polymarket, a crypto-based prediction market, have increased their wagers that the Republican nominee would win the election in recent weeks. While National polling averages by FiveThirtyEight show Harris with a 2.5-point lead over Trump, on Friday, Trump had 60 per cent betting odds on Polymarket compared to Harris’ 39 per cent. The online market showed odds for the political opponents as neck-and-neck until October 7, when the former president started making significant gains. The flood of support for Trump, the Wall Street Journal first reported, could be attributed to four Polymarket accounts

A majority of Americans (52 percent) feel worse off today than four years ago under former President Donald Trump, Gallup polling found Friday. Four years ago the nation was in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which greatly impacted the economy and the lives of millions of Americans. Despite the crises, Americans believe they were better off. Costs increased by about 20 percent across the board after the Biden-Harris administration assumed office and instituted “Bidenomics.”

On Thursday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “America Reports,” Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE), who is also a Co-Chair of the Harris Campaign, responded to arguments that former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar would still be alive if Israel had listened to calls for a ceasefire from President Joe Biden and 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris by saying that Biden stands with Israel and the Mossad would have “eventually” killed Sinwar. Co-host John Roberts said, “You mentioned a moment ago that Yahya Sinwar was responsible for killing Palestinians, and he has, in many different ways. He became known as the butcher of Khan Younis

If anyone needs proof that the Kamala Harris campaign has cracked its axle gear at high speed and is spinning off into wild and crazy directions, take a look at Kamala Harris's campaign's own bizarre response to President Trump's appearance at the Al Smith dinner to raise money for Catholic Charities: It's as if Harris were describing herself. Everyone knows she can't talk without a teleprompter and memorized lines, and that she word-salads her speech. Her minion described a combination of Harris and Joe Biden in all their personal failures, and then weirdly called it 'Trump.' Her allies at the Washington Post responded in similar fashion: Here is the Trump

Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said B-2 Spirit stealth bombers were part of the operation that targeted hardened underground facilities housing missiles and other munitions that the Iran-backed group had used to attack civilian and military ships. The strikes demonstrated the ability of the US to hit facilities that adversaries sought "to keep out of reach", he added. Houthi-run Al-Masirah TV said the strikes targeted six areas in and around the capital, Sanaa, and two near the northern city of Saada. It did not report any casualties.

WASHINGTON — Vice President Kamala Harris angrily dodged questions on border policy, Iran and President Biden’s fitness for office in an contentious interview with Fox News host Bret Baier — as more polls showed her losing the initiative in the race for the White House. According to the initial reports, they were not there on an assassination operation and had no prior intelligence that they could be in the vicinity of the elusive Hamas leader, architect of the 7 October attacks, the man Israel most wanted to kill. It was only after they took a closer look at his face and found identity documents on him that the troops realised they had got Sinwar.
