A fact check aimed at former President Donald Trump regarding violent crime rates in the United States during the ABC News presidential debate in September has not held up well.
During the debate between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris (D), Trump highlighted the fact that crime has been plaguing Americans under President Joe Biden (D) and Harris’s leadership, Fox News noted on Friday.After he said crime across the nation is “through the roof,” moderator David Muir tried to fact check his statement, saying, “President Trump, as you know, the FBI says overall violent crime is actually coming down in this country.”
Former President Trump held a rally in the Detroit area, and he invited a local legend to the stage.
The three-time Republican presidential nominee was at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit, and, before he took the stage, he took a photo with boxing legend Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, a Detroit native.
Trump then spotted Hearns in the audience and invited him to the stage.
“I won so much money betting on this guy. … Some of the greatest fights in history,” Trump said.“One of the greatest fights of all time, and man, I’ll tell you what, he was something special.”
Hearns eventually joined Trump on the stage and seemed in disbelief.

North Carolina’s Asheville Police Department is trying to find the owners of dozens of family photos that were found by first responders who sifted through the rubble from Hurricane Helene.
“Amid the debris and devastation wrought by the Swannanoa and French Broad rivers, APD officers found and saved dozens of family photographs that survived the storm,” the department said in a Thursday post to Facebook.
“Though the water was strong enough to demolish buildings, uproot trees, and bend and tear steel, it could not wash away the memories contained within these photos. The Asheville Police Department would therefore like to see them returned to their rightful owners.”
