A leading House Democrat is preparing a constitutional amendment in response to the Supreme Court’s landmark immunity ruling, seeking to reverse the decision “and ensure that no president is above the law.”
Rep. Joseph Morelle of New York, the top Democrat on the House Administration Committee, sent a letter to colleagues informing them of his intent to file the resolution, which would kickstart what’s traditionally a cumbersome amendment process.
“This amendment will do what SCOTUS failed to do — prioritize our democracy,” Morelle said in a statement to AP.
In referring to Donald Trump, Morelle said the former president “must be held accountable for his decisions.

Its a Republic, if you can keep it...
I want a Constitutional Amendment that returns the Electoral process to the founder's principles. Enough of this "Democracy" crap. We are not and never have been a Democracy!! We are a Republic!! Mob rule is for Hollywood, and favorite flavors.
And NEVER were elected officials given the authority to RULE us. They are our servants! Hired help! Easily replaced.

Can we arrest Congress for never passing a real budget or for delegating their law making authority to the Executive branch via unconstitutionally created agencies?
I'm sure he's not ok with that.

The only Amendment I'd vote for, is one where, if a guiding representative is replaced, the entire bureaucracy he's guided must also be replaced, down to the janitorial staff. And the old ones must sit out as least one term. So sick and tired of the un-elected running roughshod over the citizenry as if they were something special. If the president goes, everyone working for him goes on unemployment. Keep the various agencies small, efficient and replaceable. No one should ever be working for the government their entire lives.

The Supreme Court ruled this in 1982 with Nixon vs Fitzgerald, this isn’t about Trump , it’s about all Presidents. Law makers that don’t know the law. Are you surprised

One of the actions a president can be impeached and put on trial for is bribery. Does anyone here remember that on his last day in office, Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, a man who fled the country to avoid being put in prison for tax evasion? His wife, Denise Rich gave the Clintons over a million dollars to get Clinton to pardon him. And since the 'rats blew up the Statute of Limitations law, Clinton can be put on trial for taking a bribe. The 'rats better be careful what they wish for because this particular knife cuts both ways.

The democrats will only need to reverse the SCOTUS decision for long enough to get Trump. Then when another democrat gets elected to the presidency they will suddenly see the error of their ways and rescind the law. It's how the democrats do things.

Bill of attainder. Does this babbling pile of barnyard refuse understand that his impeccable logic and Stellar intellect would Make Obama (Blessed be the lightbringer) one of the most prolific serial killers in US history.
He has immunity for the deaths he ordered on foreign soil. He bragged about, was downright proud of himself. What's a couple innocent women and children blown to bits anyway.
He should be charged and punished to the full extent
No one is above the law.

Will this be a Trump specific law, like the laws passed in New York to specifically target him; or a real but unnecessary law aimed at everyone? Of course, if immunity is so "bad for democracy ", I'm sure that any Constitutional amendment to remove immunity from the President will also include removing any immunity that members of Congress also enjoy for any official actions that they may take and defamatory things that they say and do. They will NEVER approve removing their own immunity!

Careful what you wish for. The SOTUS ruling protects Biden from being charged with war crimes for involvement in the Ukraine conflict, Obama similarly for Lybia and Clinton for Serbia. Not to
mention Biden’s “obstruction” of immigration enforcement and student debt collection.

"A leading House Democrat ..." That over 90% of the populace has NEVER heard of, have no clue who he is, where he is from, has seldom if EVER been mentioned on the news, for ANYTHING....makes a statement...to get a Mention.
(He is from Rochester, took over the Louise Slaughter lifetime seat in 2018 when she died)
Psst...he has been charged several times, from several different campaigns with campaign fraud violations, violating state election laws, 7 convictions, down graded to misdemeanor "Disorderly conduct", paid a $25 fine, 32hrs of community service, and....disorderly conduct counted as neither felony, nor even misdemeanor, leaving no permanent criminal record.

Finally, a democrat realizes how the Constitution was designed to work, and the process for changing the language. Getting a 2/3rds majority vote in the House and Senate or getting 2/3rds of the states to call for a Constitutional Convention is quite a chore to officially get the amendment ball rolling. The requirement for 3/4ths of the states (e.g., 38 of 50 states) for ratification is a much bigger chore. If not, the 2nd amendment would have been repealed long ago. There is no democrat "popular vote" nonsense.

Every time that ding dongs get disappointed that our laws won't deliver what they want and they cannot get the votes in Congress to pass any changes, they start talking about Constitutional amendments, which have an even HIGHER bar to jump. The people that talk about this are whiners and morons. The Constitution was designed to be hard to change EXACTLY to prevent such morons from flipping things around on a whim for the latest cause du jour.
In this case, they want to break the absolutely NECESSARY immunity the President requires to be able to do his job as an equal but separate power to the Congress and the Supreme Court.

This is all for show. Given how difficult it is to pass an amendment, Morelle knows that his proposal is going nowhere. He’s just trying to look relevant to his voters.

An Amendment to our constitution to oppose a Supreme Court’s decision because you didn’t like the way it turned out. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

The U.S. military is taught they must follow the orders of those appointed above them, unless it is an "unlawful order."
Mis-using an official act to commit an unlawful act does not make that crime lawful. And is seems to me, using an official act to commit an unlawful act would be a "high crime and misdemeanor." Therefore, no immunity.
How come I can see that and three Supreme Court Justices cannot?

If there was any doubt of how mentally unstable and completely ignorant AND stupid (two separate things) Dems are.....look at the list of the morons who think this is 1) necessary and 2) has a snowball's chance in hell of passing Congress.....let along 35 state legislatures.
Idiots on parade. I think that we're going to have to build a LOT of new mental hospitals after the election.

First, set the example for SCOTUS by stripping every congress creature of their immunity (self-imposed by law). Then add in all judges, AGs & prosecutors. You think this action might shut these idiots up?
