It is no secret that Donald Trump is a hot wire that either fires up the imagination of voters or fries the brain. For those of us who experience Trump as a Promethean bringer of enlightening fire to the dark barren fields of modern politics, it is hard to fathom the reaction of those who are terrified of him. We just say they have Trump Derangement Syndrome. But for those Trump haters, of course, it is the rest of us who are deranged. We are cult members or Christian nationalists or foot soldiers of the new Hitler. You cannot imagine more diametrically opposed views of one man.

DENVER — The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and several other agencies rescued eight teens from an abandoned missile silo near Deer Trail Sunday morning. One of the teens was in critical condition after falling 30 feet. A rescue operation had been underway to save the teen. Just before 9 a.m., the teen was rescued and put into a helicopter that was on standby at the scene and airlifted away. Authorities told FOX31 that the teen was expected to survive. A driver died after a vehicle crashed into a gate at the White House Saturday night, but the fatal collision is being investigated “only as a traffic crash” and there was no threat to the president’s residence, law enforcement authorities said. The male driver, who was not immediately identified, was found dead in the vehicle following the crash shortly before 10:30 p.m. at an outer perimeter gate of the White House complex, the U.S. Secret Service said in a statement. The Washington Metropolitan Police Department said the vehicle crashed into a security barrier at the intersection of 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

I’m not a great believer in polls, especially right now. I’m sure there is some truth to them, some attempts at accuracy. Pollsters need a modicum of precision or they lose credibility. And if they lose credibility, they lose money. But, at best, I’m suspicious about polls, especially several months before an election, especially since 2016 and 2022. The only poll that will really matter is the one taken on November 5. But currently, just about all the polls indicate that Donald Trump is ahead, and some say by a significant margin, even in most of the so-called “swing states.”

The Alabama Supreme Court has authorized the execution of a death row inmate who previously survived after being given a lethal injection. The convict, Alan Eugene Miller, will now receive execution by nitrogen gas, the Washington Examiner reported. Alabama’s high court authorized the method in a decision Thursday. Republican Gov. Kay Ivey has not set the date for Miller’s execution. Once it’s carried out, Miller will become the second death row inmate to die by nitrogen gas in the state. However, the method has become controversial among liberal death penalty opponents. After being convicted of killing three men during a 1999 workplace shooting, Miller was set to die by lethal injection.
