The "Rust" armorer who last month was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the deadly shooting of Halyna Hutchins, the film's cinematographer, was sentenced in a New Mexico state court today to 18 months' imprisonment. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed received the maximum penalty for her part in the 2021 tragedy that several experts have since characterized as a preventable incident, where actor Alec Baldwin discharged live rounds from a prop gun on the movie set during a rehearsal.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer handed down the sentence to conclude an emotionally charged hearing Monday. "I find what you did constitutes a serious violent offense," Sommer told Gutierrez-Reed. Will Alec Baldwin be convicted and told that and more since he failed to be the final check before pulling the trigger? I have my doubts.

This girl is going to be hung with the whole thing. It will follow her everywhere she goes for the rest of her life. She's taking the fall for extremely lax management of the production of that "motion picture". The producer of that farce, who also happens to be the shooter, is going to walk away from this, in the eyes of the law at least. Money talks, money walks. Alex and Hilaria will be home free. The millions of us who are serious gunners are sickened by this travesty. Was the girl wrong? You betcha. But the boss/shooter was wronger by far. He created the environment where this could happen...then made it happen.

Her job requires being responsible, as in 'The bullet (buck) stops here.' Baldwin being the triggerman also bears responsibility. He pulled the trigger wrongfully assuming someone else did their job. Had he exercised HIS responsibility it would not have mattered if she hadn't done hers.

Baldwin was handed the gun! At that point it was his responsibility to check to see if the gun was loaded! It was also his job to not point the weapon at anything he wasn’t willing to destroy! He not only failed twice but then he pulled the trigger??? 18 years for Baldwin with no possibility of early release! I’m sure the very large checks to the judge have been cashed, however!

A fine lady is dead, and her small kids will never see their mother again. This is the result of arrogance, lack of respect for firearms, and a lackadaisical attitude in handling -checking the gun and the ammunition- the gun that discharged, killing the lady. I say that this 'armorer' twit and this 'movie star [backside orifice] should be free to walk this earth on the day -and not one minute before- those kid's mom is again walking the earth and holding her children in her arms.

The punishment doesn't stop with the 18 months. As a convicted felon she will not be allowed to own or handle firearms. Plus she can't vote. And will have trouble finding a job.

I have to believe that this helps Baldwin - not saying he will walk away scot-free, but the person with the primary responsibility for the gun just got convicted.

Re#12: No, no, no! A thousand times NO! “The person with the primary responsibility for the gun” is the person holding it. Period. Full stop. Anyone who responsibly handles firearms KNOWS this. Never accept a firearm from anyone unless you have watched them clear the weapon before handing it to you. Never hand a firearm to anyone unless you have personally cleared it. This is basic stuff, people.

Always abiding by Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety* eliminates accidents. In fact, I would go so far as to say that anyone who does not always obey these rules should never handle guns at any time. These rules are ironclad. Alec Baldwin pointed a weapon at another human being (two, actually) and pulled the trigger. Yes, the armorer who somehow allowed a live round into that Old Western revolver made a unforgivable mistake. But if Baldwin had not pointed the weapon at two people and pulled the trigger, this tragedy would never have happened. "Alex" Baldwin managed to break all four rules of gun safety. He's at least as responsible as the armorer. *Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper's Four Rules of Gun Safety 1. All guns are always loaded. 2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target. 4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.

The people who should really slammed in court for the death of Hutchins are the film producers who hired the apparently incompetent Gutierrez-Reed, who apparently could not tell the difference between blanks and live rounds, to hold the critical position of armorer, responsible for the handling and loading of firearms during the filming of that movie.

A district judge who previously presided over a woman’s capital murder case recommended last week that the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals overturn Melissa Lucio's 2008 conviction after a district attorney’s office admitted that prosecutors withheld evidence from her defense. Decades after a jury sentenced Lucio to death for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter, the Cameron County district attorney and Lucio’s legal team cosigned court filings that found key evidence, which included interviews with Lucio’s other children, was suppressed by prosecutors at the time of the case.

A North Carolina high school student was charged after he allegedly slapped his teacher multiple times during a viral profanity-laced classroom rant earlier this week. The rage-filled youngster, identified only as a minor, confronted the educator inside Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, where he violently attacked her, according to video posted to social media. After the initial impact, the teacher seemed unfazed by the slap as the student continued to run his mouth. Do you think that affected me anyway,” the unidentified teacher said, sitting back in her chair, legs crossed. “Want me to hit you again,” the juvenile asked as he menacingly approached the teacher.

A federal appeals court on Tuesday overturned a West Virginia law that prohibits male athletes from competing in women’s sports in the state, arguing that it violates Title IX, the federal law barring sex-based discrimination in schools. In a 2-1 ruling, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals allowed transgender-identifying males to participate on women’s sports teams in the state. This was one of several pending lawsuits addressing the issue of male participation in women’s sports, with both sides laying claim to Title IX to support their cases. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) had kind words for far-left CNN host Jake Tapper Wednesday after the cameras appeared to turn dark. “You’re always fair,” a mic’d up Johnson said during an exchange heard by Breitbart News moments after Johnson’s long appearance on CNN’s The Lead with Jake Tapper. Johnson joined Tapper remotely from outside the House floor in the Capitol as a handful of reporters looked on. He remarked during the interview that he had known Tapper, a proven leftwing partisan known for broadcasting false claims, for a long time.

The Senate moved Wednesday to put a premature end to the impeachment trial of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, which would make him the second Cabinet official in history to evade a conviction and removal from office — but the first to be acquitted without evidence being presented of his alleged “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) convened the upper chamber in the early afternoon to swear in the 51 Democrats or independents who caucus with them and 49 Republicans as jurors, before offering a motion to dismiss the first of the charges without a trial. The unprecedented move set off a series of objections from Republicans,

Soon the government might shut down your car. President Joe Biden's new infrastructure gives bureaucrats that power. You probably didn't hear about that because when media covered it, few mentioned the requirement that by 2026, every American car must "monitor" the driver, determine if he is impaired and, if so, "limit vehicle operation." Rep. Thomas Massie objected, complaining that the law makes government "judge, jury and executioner on such a fundamental right!" Congress approved the law anyway. A USA Today "fact check" told readers, don't worry, "There's no kill switch in Biden's bill." (Snip) The clause is buried under Section 24220 of the law.

It's hard to blame Donald Trump (aka Dozy Don) for apparently nodding off during the first day of his 'hush money' trial in New York on Monday. Yes, it's the first ever criminal trial of a former U.S. president and he's also the only leading presidential candidate ever to face criminal proceedings. Add to that the chance he could go to jail if he's found guilty and you might expect Trump to be paying close attention. But the early stages of the trial have been dominated by arcane legal arguments about procedural points and the interminable process of choosing a jury, now an unavoidable feature of American justice.

Following this, USAA, two months later, notified Eastman of the closure of his accounts with the company. USAA cited its Depository Agreement as the basis for its decision, citing its right to ”no longer do banking business” with customers.
