Civil rights groups are calling for the collapsed Baltimore bridge to be renamed when it's rebuilt, citing accusations of racism against national anthem author Francis Scott Key.
The Caucus of African American Leaders of Anne Arundel County in Maryland voted unanimously to call for the renaming and will lobby governor Wes Moore on the proposal, as reported by the Baltimore Banner.
The caucus includes civil rights groups such as the NAACP and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Leaders argued that the The Star-Spangled Banner author -who the collapsed bridge was named after - was a slave owner who wrote lyrics that scholars have said 'demeaned black people.'

Who didn’t se this coming. (Eye roll). Demeans black people? These “scholars” self-demean.
Maybe we can get one of those AI renderings done of Francis Scott Key, then as a black he will be ok.

I say we submit a counter proposal: How about the “Donald Trump walks on water bridge for making America great again.” Let’s see how the civil rights groups feel about that.

Why don’t we rename it “The Bell Curve Bridge “?
In honor of the Baltimore Ravens football ball team that, in England, stood for the British national anthem. Then nealt for the American national anthem, which incidentally, was written while the British were shelling the team’s home town during the war of 1812.
A sport’s team of real rocket scientists.

Keep the name Frances Scot Key. I just learned a lot about him and it's a well deserved memorial for him. But to be honest, within half an hour after this bridge going down, my first thought was they will want it renamed what # 4 said.

There we go again with those who love the murderers, but condemn anyone the deem a "racist." I challenge any of them to find reference to "racism" as a "sin" in our Bible, or in our Founding Documents. Find a Leftist Cause and scratch the surface and you always discover hypocrisy. Case in point, the Democrat Party was THE political party of the pre-Civil War, Plantation-owning South! If that stuff means so much to these fools then STOP being Democrats and join the Grand Old Party!

Don't name the bridge. But if you feel the need to give it a new name, how about The Money Pit, Reparations Bridge, or Racial Set Asides Bridge.

Absolutely not! Stop trying to strip away our history. We are to learn from it and if you know the story behind the Star Spangled Banner, it is something for which to be so proud. We have to stop allowing a minority of butt hurt whiners to erase our heritage. Why impose perfection on the past when we fall so far short of it now?! Whatever has to be done, this bridge should keep its name. It earned it.

There is a very good reason the bridge is named after Francis Scott Key. The Star Spangled Banner was written by Key after seeing the “rockets red glare” over Fort McHenry which guarded Baltimore harbor. This is another effort to erase American history.

As a Maryland resident I am against any renaming of the bridge, but as a resident and realizing what we have in Annapolis I wouldn't be surprised if the name was changed Maybe after our first black Governor. The Wes Moore Bridge.

This ain't gonna happen. The people of this region won't stand for it. There is a buoy next to the bridge that marks the spot where Francis Scott Key watched from a British ship as the bombardment of Fort McHenry took place and wrote the lyrics for our national anthem. Any attempt to name the bridge anything but Francis Scott Key won't last.

While I don't have a dog in this fight, they could satisfy both lovers and haters by renaming the rebuilt structure Anthem Bridge. Baltimore meant more to our country than just the Star Spangled Banner (glorious as it is!). Call it the Raven Bridge. Matters little the name if it will get you from point A to point B.

Fact is white Americans fought and died during the civil war to end slavery, western civilizations ended slavery. Blacks in African countries enslaved and then sold their own people into slavery. What do these American hating groups like the NAACP and the National Coalition of 100 Black Women not understand. Slavery still exists in countries within Africa. Genocide is still going on between tribes in Africa. How ignorant can these idiots be.

What about blacks eating white people when they traipsed through Africa? Since Math is considered raciss' I guess we better not ever go over a bridge that is built by blacks. Last time I looked their 'bridges' usually consist of a tree trunk thrown over a river. In Europe every single country had slaves none of them got a dime for 'reparations' ever. Just because their skin color is different it means everything is measured by blacks? Their historical knowledge is usually pretty insufficient. I for one am sick and tired that they try to rewrite history. Let's bring up the little known fact to blacks that African chieftains put their own people in cages and raced them down to the ocean so that they could sell them for beads. Oh, African to this day 'sell' their people. But I guess that's something they do not want to hear about, especially race hustlers like not so very sharp Sharpton and his ilk.
