‘Reacher’ Star Alan Ritchson: ‘Cops
Get Away with Murder All the Time’

Original Article

Alan Ritchson, the star of Amazon’s hit show, Reacher, claims to be “very disturbed” that police officers can get away with murdering people “all the time” and are never held accountable for it. The 41-year-old actor cast his accusation about lawless police officers in his interview with The Hollywood Reporter last week in which he made a series of admissions of his extreme views.

Comments:

Assuming he was accurately quoted: what a maroon. Why go out of your way to turn off half or more of your audience? Ive enjoyed the Reacher novels. The author, Lee Child, had his character express some leftist views in the 10th or 11th book (?) in the series and was ripped by fans who wanted Reacher to remain apolitical. Child got the message. Now Ritchson, probably believing the TV show's popularity inoculates from a backlash, spews leftist cant. I will not watch the new season of "Reacher." My view of the character he plays is now altered. Is that rational? Of course not. But the show is still dead to me.

Its a pity, but they become so immersed in fantasy they lose track of reality. Are there cops that use their positions to commit murder? Yes, there are. But not even most cops and not "all the time". Most want to be defenders of their communities. Their training, in my opinion, sucks. They are trained in Urban Warfare and counterinsurgency. That means their basic response is to treat the community they wish to protect as opponents on the battlefield. That's a crappy policeman.

This is really ironic. If you watch the Reacher series, you know that Jack is the poster child for unbridled vigilantism. He is supposed to be an ex-military investigator who routinely shoots unarmed people in the back, tortures his enemies before dispatching them, and, in the finale of the second season, kills a defenseless engineer and helicopter pilot by nonchalantly blowing their helicopter out of the sky with a handy missile. I don't know whether Ritchson is just an idiot or is suffering from a guilty conscience.

Reacher's behavior in novels is good. He is usually pulled into a mystery and is working for the good guys. Yes there is violence but it's always in retaliation. I enjoyed the first season but stopped at the second episode of the second season. He'd become a Marvel character that could destroy everyone and everything without taking a breath. That's not what Reacher is about. And the comments he's made, even if I were watching, I'd stop now.

Bring your politics into the entertainment industry and you risk alienating half your audience and this poor fool does not have the brains to realize that radical libs are not watching this series. There’s a famous quote on the subject of judicial power — that is, real judicial power, and not just the imagined kind that we’ve grown accustomed to accepting in a legalistic society. It comes courtesy — though we’re told it’s an apocryphal quotation — of Andrew Jackson, our 7th president. Jackson was informed of the Supreme Court’s decision in an 1832 case, Worcester v. Georgia, which involved a complicated set of circumstances by which a missionary to the Cherokee Nation was imprisoned for violating a state law that he claimed was non-binding on sovereign Indian territory.

The Monday headline on Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in the New York Times said, unintentionally, exactly what is wrong with the GOP Establishment’s response to former President Donald Trump. The headline: DeSantis Bluntly Acknowledges Trump’s 2020 Defeat: ‘Of Course He Lost’ The Times reports this: Mr. DeSantis, who is polling well behind Mr. Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, had acknowledged on Friday that the former president’s false theories about a rigged 2020 election were “unsubstantiated.” Say what? Of course, Ron DeSantis can come back and win. Anybody in the race can win – we saw Trump come back in 2016 when most everyone wrote him off in the general. Now it’s the Florida governor’s turn to be written off, but he’s not exactly in the same place that Trump was. DeSantis is a strong second right now. For him, it’s not a matter of a miracle happening, threading a bunch of needles to win the general when rational betters would bet against you like in 2016. No, Ron DeSantis has a plan, and there’s a method to his muddling through.

Faced with a historically unpopular president overseeing a weak economy and promoting left-wing “Bidenomics,” Republicans have a golden opportunity in 2024. The election couldn’t be more winnable. And the only thing that should matter for Republicans is actually winning it. While there is a sense that Donald Trump has become a frontrunner in the Republican primaries, there is just as much of a sense that he can’t win a general election—not anymore. Here's the hard truth: If Trump secures the Republican nomination, Joe Biden will be re-elected. But, if Ron DeSantis becomes the nominee, then the Democrats have little to no chance.

The supporters of former President Trump are absolutely correct about one thing. If every single Republican pledged their allegiance to him and fell in line he’d win the nomination easily. But he’d also lose the general election, again. He does not receive enough support from outside the traditional Republican and MAGA base to win in 2024. Hillary Clinton beat Trump by roughly 3 million in the popular vote in 2016. While Trump indeed did win the election by taking the required 270 electoral votes, just a few thousand votes in each of the key swing states would have changed that outcome into a Hillary Clinton landslide victory in 2016.

For four years, in the face of relentless false attacks, Donald Trump got things done. Lots of things. But he didn’t drain the swamp.
