New York City has agreed to pay a whopping settlement after a pair of women claimed their rights were violated when they were forced to remove their hijabs for mugshots.
A hijab is not a full-body garment. It covers only the hair and neck.
The city said it will fork over the $17.5 million settlement, (snip)
Ms. Clark, who was arrested on a violation of an order of protection in Manhattan in 2017, said she “wept and begged to put her hijab back on” while standing in Police Headquarters at One Police Plaza with the head scarf around her shoulders, according to the complaint.

Donald Trump has raised $50.5 million at a Florida fundraiser for his 2024 re-election campaign - the highest amount ever raised at a single event.
Saturday's $250,000-a-ticket bash was held at the $110 million Palm Beach home of Trump supporter John Paulson.
The enormous amount is almost double the $26 million Joe Biden's campaign recently raised at a New York City bash which boasted the added star-power of former Democrat presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton. 'It's clearer than ever that we have the message, the operation, and the money to propel President Trump to victory on November,' Team Trump told AP.

Here in the Susitna Valley, when it's time to vote, we proceed on Election Day to our local community center, where we present our IDs, get checked off the voting roll, sign in, and then fill out a paper ballot. Those paper ballots are placed in a box and counted by humans. Now, granted, that system works well here, where our little rural community can expect fewer than 2,000 voters most years.
Many states and municipalities across the land have, however, resorted to mail-in ballots. It's easy to imagine many ways in which this system is fraught, but now a major overhaul of the U.S. Postal Service - the timing

Things are bad when sports journalists and former professional athletes find ways to talk more sensibly about the country's top issues today than our leaders. Okay, I admit—the bar isn’t that high. But while Charles Barkley is a hall-of-fame NBA player, he’s seldom the voice of reason in a political debate. Also, Barkley doesn’t want to be a commentator on social issues, though he hasn’t shied away from it. He has a show with Gayle King on CNN. Put it this way: he’s more open about some political issues, but he will never be selected to moderate a presidential debate,

There are some people who aren't articulate despite possessing the knowledge. There are others who are adept wordsmiths but possess no knowledge.
Most overcome either of these shortcomings by burning their midnight oil.
There are a rare kind who are not only inarticulate and ignorant but are too lazy to apply themselves even minimally.
Then there is Kamala Harris.
She is not only nation's primary world salad chef but the leader of the league of ignoramuses. And that's not all, she also has no self-awareness and probably thinks of herself as abundantly talented. This rules out the possibility of any remedial measures.
Kamala has consistently achieved a rare and most undesirable kind of inconsistency.

One of the things that frustrated me about Trump’s (first?) term was his seeming complete indifference to #TheResistance that manifested before he even took office. Unelected bureaucrats working in the ridiculously invasive executive branch’s many agencies, publicly declared war on him, and he . . . well, he did nothing.
Until the final year of his presidency when he seemed to finally take aim at the problem in his own branch of government–we can call it the deep state, the resistance, the entrenched bureaucrats who oversee far too much policy in America and who are, apparently, answerable to no one. Not the voter, not the president.
