Immigration policies that admit vast numbers of low-skill workers are a plague on Americans in low-skill jobs, warned the late, great Barbara Jordan — the Texas congresswoman who chaired President Bill Clinton’s immigration commission back in the 1990s.
Open borders make a welfare state unworkable, warned America’s leading Socialist, Sen. Bernie Sanders — before he started toeing the new Democratic Party line amid his 2016 presidential run.
Warnings fully vindicated by The Post’s Isabel Vincent’s deep dive inside the city’s cash-based underground migrant economy.

Well about that taxpaying narrative attached to the illegal border crossers. Not working out, right. Who woulda thought that paying their fair share was not one of their strong points. Who woulda thought? Not the voters of NYC

At what point will New Yorkers get fed up with their “guests” and realize their votes enabled the mess?
Ever??

Nice to see a mention of Barbra Jordan...she was a Politician that anyone could respect, everyone did.
Though a Democrat, and the 1st LBGT, Black woman to be Texas rep, Senator, and even Governor for a day, she later became the 1st black and 1st woman US UN rep, and also a rep to NATO.....she was the great Grandaughter of a black Republican Texas representative...removed from office by Democrats Jim Crow edicts.
It would be to have her mentioned quite a bit more, particularly on immigration matters, though much of what she stood for and advocated, debated convincingly, points out the marked differences between Yesterdays "Mainstream Democrat" and today's...which are better described as socialists.

I had the misfortune of commuting through Queensbridge a few months ago. If you want to visit a third world country without leaving the city, just hop on the subway.

Used to be just the border states, especially California, had to deal with the effects of this “underground economy.” A friend of the family was a general contractor in the Central Valley of California. Immigrants killed his business. He said he couldn’t compete on bids. He paid his crew a living wage - they all supported families, arrived to the job site in their own vehicles and went home at night to their own residences. He said the competition would arrive crammed into one car and go home at night usually to the same place where multiple men lived together. Many had families but those families were in another country with a vastly lower cost of living. My friend said he couldn’t lower his prices so much that he worked for free. He eventually let go his guys and worked alone. Then he moved out of state.
An underground economy lowers the standard of living for those who can least afford it.

New York is being flooded with illegal aliens who amount to a surplus mass of cheap foreign labor. Since employers will always attempt to hire the cheapest labor possible, it will not be long before employers will be hiring cheap illegal alien labor rather than higher cost American citizen and permanent resident alien labor. The result of that will no doubt be that American workers who are hired into any job where illegal alien workers can be hired, will be earning much less money than they were able to before Biden and the leftist and socialist Democrats started flooding the USA with illegal aliens. That’s always been the case and always has been the primary reason for immigration controls and laws that limit the numbers of foreign workers being allowed into the USA. So chances are there are going to be a lot of such jobs offered at about the Federal Minimum Wage level as illegal aliens start applying for those jobs. Of course then you have the unknown number of illegal alien workers who will be working “under the table” for whatever wage they are offered. One thing is for sure very few of those illegal alien workers will never earn wages high enough to pay bottom line Federal and State Income Taxes.
