The Pennsylvania legislature passed a resolution making 2023 the "Taylor Swift Era" in the Keystone State. Sponsored by Democratic state Rep. Danielle Otten, a vote passed the resolution 103 to 100 on Dec. 13, the pop star's 34th birthday. (snip) Other members of the chamber criticized the resolution. Republican Rep. Stephanie Borowicz took the floor to add to the mix of comments. (snip) "Giving Taylor Swift an era while our veterans get a day. Taking down our founding fathers' statues while elevating a Hollywood singer," Borowicz continued. "I'm a no, thank you Madam Speaker."

I fear Taylor Swift more than anyone else at the moment. She controls millions of young voters who have no more sense than to slavishly listen to her "music," and she is a godless liberal. If she gets political she can swing next year's elections to the democrats on local, state and national levels. Amazing that a singer could be the person who finally brings down a republic.

It is really good to see the so-called leaders of the country focused on the most important issues facing the country. Kind of like fiddling while the world burns.

I suspect you are correct, poster #2, sort of. The lying, cheating, stealing demonrats don't really need Taylor "Not So" Swift. After all, they have a lock on the fraudulent vote!

I would comment that our leadership is not made up of serious people, but first I need to check my device to see what Taylor thinks. (Assuming she does such things.)

Have nothing against Taylor Swift. Have only listened to her for as long as it took me to find the Mute button. To me she sounds like a cat with its tail caught in a garbage disposal. She is definitely better looking than the 2nd most famous person from PA, Ben Franklin. But, can she fly a kite.

Probably most dems don’t know what the analogy “a flash in the pan” means. This “singer” will be long forgotten when Billie Holiday is still revered.

The country is falling apart, the world is on fire, and Pennsylvania “lawmakers” think this is worthy of their time? They are worse than useless if this is their idea of governing. Stupid. Just plain stupid.

#2 may have a point. But don't cuteness and catchy / kitschy music matter any more?
All efforts at levity aside, Taylor probably doesn't have more electoral sway than other popular leftist entertainers in their respective times, like Springsteen or Streisand. I'm more worried about the way America-hating Leftists have established a handful of what amount to comorbidities for our country at this time. They've got the nation set to auto-destruct, at the same time as they've opened all the gates and called our enemies to have their way. So if one doesn't get us, the others probably will.

The Republicans always miss an opportunity. Knowing that Swift is influential, they would have done better to commend her on success through her own efforts, pointing out that she took advantage of the economic freedom and capitalist system to achieve her dream. They could also point out that if kids followed her example of hard work, they would also have a better life and they could reject the socialist and Marxist ideas of Democrats. They could also point out the inconsistencies between her political stance and the way she leads her life, that she would likely prefer the government stay out of her life and leave her to her own privacy, which is very Republican.
By the way, she is not "Hollywood," she is "Nashville" and "New York." And it's looking like she may be a lot more "Kansas" in the future.

A friend of mine sits in the Pennsylvania House. A Republican, naturally. He has told me of his disgust with the democrat majority, which does nothing that advances our Commonwealth's economy, nothing that assists its hard working citizens but everything that advances the demorat/deviant agenda. Moreover, many of the democrats are monumentally lazy, stupid, corrupt and racially prejudiced beyond description. This Commonwealth is schizophrenic; most of our counties are rural and staunchly conservative, but Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and their environs are populated by lots of left-leaning socialist democrats. Unfortunately, they narrowly control the House at the moment, but thank The Good Lord the Senate remains Republican and conservative. The governor, of course got elected by means of the usual democrat electoral cheating.
