An appeals court wiped out a conviction of a former Congressman after defense lawyers argued the FBI “set up” the lawmaker.
Nebraska GOP Congressman Jeff Fortenberry last year resigned from Congress after being convicted of lying to the FBI.
“Due to the difficulties of my current circumstances, I can no longer serve you effectively,” Fortenberry said in a statement.
Kevin McCarthy joined then-Speaker Pelosi and called for Fortenberry to step down last year.“I think when someone’s convicted, it’s time to resign,” McCarthy told reporters last year, according to Politico.
“Congressman Fortenberry’s conviction represents a breach of the public trust and confidence in his ability to serve. No one is above the law,” Pelosi,

The FBI has been NOTHING but Garbage since Elliott Ness retired! The Stasi exhibited more moral character and ethics than the FBI... SAVAC likes America better!

What a disgusting piece of trash Kevin McCarthy turned out to be. I suspect he'll turn out to be another Paul Ryan, who finds more money to be made directing RINO-ism behind the scenes.

Glad to hear this was reversed. Also good to know that not all judges are corrupt.

This seems to be another punt by the appeals court. It didn't rule on the merits, or in this case demerits, of the charges. Its ruling was on procedural grounds, i.e. wrong venue. Seems to me that the FBI can still decide to prosecute/persecute Fortenberry as long as it's done in Nebraska. Not even a slap on the wrist for the FBI's entrapment, process crime shenanigans. They therefore have no reason to stop doing that.

How many other Republicans and friends of Donald Trump have suffered this same thing from this current group of outlaw Democrats using our own laws and crooked Judges to establish their Reich.
And all the while Republicans have cowardly stood by and watched it happen. Some even helping. Scum like Liz Cheney, Susan Collins, McCarthy ,and Kinzinger.
We are losing our country. It is being handed over to people who are invading us by the millions and suppoting the flags of the countries they left, and many "woke" dipstick are joining with them causing chaos.

From the Opinion: "The Constitution plainly requires that a criminal
defendant be tried in the place where the criminal conduct
occurred. The district court determined, and the government
urges on appeal, that a Section 1001 violation occurs not
only where a false statement is made but also where it has an
effect on a federal investigation. We conclude that an
effects-based test for venue of a Section 1001 offense has no
support in the Constitution, the text of the statute, or
historical practice. Consequently, we reverse Fortenberry’s
conviction without prejudice to retrial in a proper venue."
I really don't understand why this article seeks to give the impression that the conviction was reversed because the appeals court concluded that there was entrapment.
The opinion doesn't even seem to say that he appealed based on entrapment, unless that was the refused jury instruction.
That said, the FBI richly deserves bad publicity.

It was reversed because the case was brought in the wrong venue. The DOJ can re-try it.

The CIA has always been a tool of Socialist Globalist. They helped turn China Red and kept the USSR, Red. They are involved in assassinations and attempted assassinations of Western Leaders, on their own recognicense.
They are, with the current FBI the strong Arm of the Swamp. They don't simply need disbanded. They need to be destroyed.
Track down everyone appointed to the CIA, FBI, Homeland Security or the DOJ, by Swamp Critter regimes. Investigate them thoroughly, then consider putting them down as threats to the Republic or exiling them to some place like Attica, to farm peanuts.

Lying to the government should only be a crime when it becomes a crime for them to lie to us. I seem to remember a ruling some years ago that said it was ok for them to lie to us.
This is not the America we grew up in. Its more like the Soviet Union we feared.

Why does anyone voluntarily meet with FBI agents after what the corrupt, weaponized, partisan bureau did to General Flynn? If the FBI requests an interview, give them a polite, one word answer —- attorney. FBI = Gestapo.

Except George Santos isn't convicted of anything and yet, his fellow liberal Republicans from NY forced his ouster. Maybe Speaker Johnson needs to have more of an Archangel Michael view of the world.

Note he was not even tried, let alone convicted, of receiving the illegal campaign donations. Which were approx $30k, funneled through three straw donors, at a Los Angeles event, by a major contributor to the Clinton Foundation.
Gilbert Ramez Chagoury (born 1946) is a Nigerian/Lebanese billionaire businessman, diplomat and philanthropist.
Chagoury also illegally donated to 3 other sitting Congressman's campaigns, but good luck finding which ones, they were not charged, nor tried.
The purpose of his donations were to support his charity which legislative/diplomatic goals were to fight the prosecution of Christians in Muslim countries.
The FBI was able to entrap and convict this ONE congressman, because they had been secretly tapping his phone(along with other pro-Trump congress folks and staff)...and had recordings of him being warned that the donations were via straw donors, but were in fact from a foreign national.
The Los Angeles court venue was chosen because that is where the donations took place...but the conviction was for "Crimes" other than accepting those donations, all of which occurred elsewhere.

Witchner, a Senator from Alaska,Ted Stevens, who lost his re-election because of the FBI's lies??? And on, and on. These Leftist goons are evil and do the dirty work of the Demorat party.

Someone wisely said the feds have 7 ways from Sunday to screw you over. And they don't hesitate to use all 7, since they've become weaponized. Who was it among the founders who had this bright idea? Washington? Jefferson? Adams? Or was it the Taupe Hope from somewhere between Kenya and Martha's Vineyard?
