Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) promises war if New York passes a bill forcing Chick-fil-A to open on Sundays.
This week, Graham said he would withhold federal funding from any city or state government that enforces the proposed bill on the popular fast food joint. Last week, a bill was filed in the New York State Assembly that would require some Chick-fil-A locations to operate every day of the week, despite the restaurant's longstanding policy to keep its doors closed on Sundays for religious reasons.
"This is war," Graham wrote on X. "If this goes forward, I will be introducing legislation withholding federal funds

Just one of the many wars that should be fought.
But damned right a business---any business should be free to set their own hours whether for religious or any other reason.

Well bless his heart. Chick-fil-A might as well go ahead get new hours signs printed up. With Lindsey on their side they’ve lost.

What aspect of federalism does goofy Lindsey not get? Legislators in California, New York and even Graham’s South Carolina pass plenty of idiotic laws. Is St. Lindsey going to protect every states’ voters from the consequences of their selection of insane legislators? Stick to your lane, Lindsey, even though you aren’t very good there.

I for one respect their (CFA), decision to set the hours of their choosing, for whatever reason. What say should the government have, really?

If the government authority leasing the facilities require that a restaurant operate 7 days a week, or certain hours, well, then that's an agreement between two parties.
If the state's agreement with Chik-Fil-A is silent about such operating hours, well, that's tough on the state. Maybe they need to hire smarter lawyers than CFA when it comes to making contracts.

“While there is nothing objectionable about a fast food restaurant closing on a particular day of the week, service areas dedicated to travelers is an inappropriate location for such a restaurant. Publicly owned service areas should use their space to maximally benefit the public. Allowing for retail space to go unused one seventh of the week or more is a disservice and unnecessary inconvenience to travelers who rely on these service areas.”
The fascists sang quite a different tune during Covid, didn’t they?

The idiot who signed up CFA as a vendor on a 24/7/365 highway system has hopefully been fired by now. When the contract renewal comes around, CFA should not be invited to the party and only vendors willing to operate on a full schedule bid on the job. Until then, New Yawk drivers will just have to put up with the stupidity of their elected officials, as they have had to do for MANY years now. This is a business issue, not a legal issue.

Rest stops have plenty of choices and while some people might be disappointed that Chick fil a is closed no one travels the Thruway specifically to eat there. There are lots of Chick fil a's along interstates and all the signs about upcoming restaurants clearly indicate Chick fil a is closed Sundays and no one raises any fuss about it. Hopefully Chick fil a will pull out of those rest stops if that law is passed and they could rebuild off a nearby exit ramp.

My favorite Chinese restaurant is closed every Tuesday.
I need a law passed to force them to open their business and work on that day.

#12, the “idiot” who signed up CFA as a vendor on a 24/7/365 highway system and works 14% fewer days in a year than his competitors also makes more money than they do. The free advertising from this story just increased its profitability even more.
If we’re really talking about business decisions here, maybe we should start hiring more idiots. It would be odd - in a non-command&control, non-Soviet economy - to demand any business be open when the State and not the proprietor of the business decides to be open.

My money's on CFA giving them the middle-finger and shutting these particular locations down. Maybe buying the franchises back. Government should not be in control of business hours unless it's a critical business. As much as I like a good CFA, it's not critical.

The government wants to force someone to sell a product. Might as well go one step further and force them to provide chicken sandwiches for free.

They can open on Sunday, I guess, but what if no one shows up to cook or take orders? I know one thing, every Chick-fil-A I pass has lines wrapped around the store, all day long. They know how to run their business and the idea of the government getting involved is sickening.

From what I have read, there is a contract in place with Chick- Fil-A. Good luck trying to change the rules in mid flight.

By what LEGITIMATE authority does any government have the power (not right; power; only individuals have rights) to set hours of operation for a privately owned business?
Clue: There is no legitimate authority for such an overreach. Of course, TYRANTS don’t need authority. Only POWER.
