Now you can call him “Sam Bankman-Fraud.” A Manhattan federal jury has convicted Sam Bankman-Fried of stealing $10 billion from users of his crypto exchange and lying to lenders and investors — capping a fall from grace for an ex-billionaire who was once viewed as one of the crypto world’s brightest stars. The 31-year-old disgraced tech mogul was found guilty of all seven fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from a scheme to swipe money from users of his FTX exchange to pay off debts at his failing hedge fund Alameda Research and purchase lavish real estate. Fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering, eh? Any possibility that a resident of Pennsylvania Ave might be guilty of the same?

Now let’s see how much time he gets. See if he goes to a prison where can teach investing and golf to the other inmates. Also, let’s see if the Stanford professor attorney parents are prosecuted. They profited from what they knew was fraud and money laundering.

My guess is that all the Dems who got OPM (other people's money) from SBF all SAID they were going to "return it." I doubt if you'll find many checks have been written. Oh gosh, golly gee, we THOUGHT we'd be able to return it, but darn it, the campaign account is empty. Especially after we wrote those checks to our daughter for her direct mail business that we hired for our campaign. Only cost us $47.50 for each of those glossy mailers you got via junk mail!

It's hard to imagine there's a more antisemitic person in the U.S. than Congress' own Rashida Tlaib. Every time she opens her mouth these days, she spews incendiary, hateful rhetoric against the Jewish state, even as Jews in her own country fear for their safety. The fact is, Tlaib doesn't care about them and probably would prefer they go away -- by any means necessary. It's clear she doesn't care about those who are being held hostage in Gaza after being brutally ripped from their homes in Israel. She hasn't once expressed remorse about that or called for them to be returned to their families.

It’s quite an eye-opener. A vote was taken in the House on Thursday to sanction Hamas terrorists and their supporters. 45 Democrats said no to that resolution. Name ’em and shame ’em. I call them the Hamas Caucus. The resolution is for new sanctions on Hamas’ international backers and a policy of opposing Iran’s nuclear program ‘by any means necessary.’ The Squad and its fellow travelers voted against that. One Republican joined with Democrats to vote no. The House of Representatives voted last night by wide bipartisan margins in favor of new sanctions on Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian terrorist groups, and a nonbinding resolution

A former State Department official was sentenced to almost six years in prison for attacking police officers during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on the Capitol, the Associated Press reported Friday. Federico Klein, who was appointed by former President Trump, was allegedly part of a mob that outnumbered Capitol Police on the Lower West Terrace tunnel entrance. Klein then assaulted officers repeatedly, urged other rioters to join and tried to stop police from shutting entrance doors, prosecutors said. U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden sentenced him to five years and 10 months in prison and said his actions were “shocking and egregious.”

The U.S. military is playing a larger role in the most recent conflict in Israel and Gaza than previously thought. On Friday, the Pentagon confirmed reports that forces from the U.S. Special Operations Command are flying unarmed surveillance drones over the Gaza Strip to assist in the recovery of hostages held by Hamas, of which there are thought to be around 240, including several Americans. According to Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder, Pentagon press secretary, the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been flying over Gaza since Hamas’ October 7 invasion of Israel.

Benjamin Netanyahu has learned to take Hamas at its word. The United States, and specifically Antony Blinken and Joe Biden, still have not. As Blinken met with the unity government in Jerusalem to push Israel to ‘pause’ operations for aid to flow into northern Gaza, Netanyahu delivered a rather humiliating public rebuke. If the US wants a pause, then Hamas needs to unconditionally release all the hostages first. Failing that, game on: In a brief televised statement before the start of Shabbat, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he has told visiting US Secretary of State Antony Blinken that he rejects any temporary halt

If Israel’s military attacks Lebanon, where Hezbollah is operating, it will “pay dearly,” Nasrallah vowed.

The Democrats know they really should be killing Republicans in the polls right now, except they aren’t for reasons they seem unable to fully understand. I don’t mean that as an insult of their intelligence. It’s probably closer to the opposite actually. It takes a lot of brain power to create the kind of insulated partisan bubble that many progressive live in these days. Pamela Paul has a new column for the Times in which she explores the ideas of John Judis and Ruy Teixeira, authors of a new book titled “Where Have All the Democrats Gone?” The gist is that Democrats just aren’t as appealing as they think they are.

The Washington Post has a story today about the network of tunnels dug beneath Gaza by Hamas fighters. The entire network is estimated to stretch over 300 miles despite the Gaza strip being on 25 miles long. It’s where Hamas fighters have been hiding out since the start of Israel’s military response to the 10/7 attack. But the IDF has no intention of entering the tunnels which are likely booby-trapped. Israeli military protocol generally prohibits regular ground troops from entering tunnels, as the chances of being killed or captured is too high. Israelis have seen their soldiers grabbed and dragged into tunnels, so the likely strategy will be to attempt

A Connecticut judge was forced to throw out the results of a Democrat mayoral primary after surveillance videos showed possible ballot stuffing that a local judge said rendered the court "unable to determine the legitimate result." The idiom for pregnancy, “a bun in the oven,” which traces its origins back more than 2,000 years to Ancient Greece, is in fact “misogynistic,” according to Kathleen Crowther, an historian of reproductive medicine at the University of Oklahoma. Crowther insists the idiom reduces the role of the mother to a mere incubator after the majority of the work has been done by the man. “I don’t think most people who use that metaphor are being misogynistic.” “But I think it actually does come from a deeply misogynistic tradition of thinking about women’s bodies as passive,” she argues.
