Archaeologists believe they are one step closer to confirming the resting place of Noah's Ark.
A team excavating a geological formation in Turkey has aged rock and soil samples they believe contain ruins of the vessel, which puts the site at the same time the Bible puts the Great Flood 5,000 years ago.
The project began in 2021 and is ongoing, but the initial analysis determined samples to contain clayey and marine materials and seafood. According to the researchers, these results mean human activity was present on the boat-shaped mound between 5500 and 3000 BC.

They keep finding this. Why doesn't someone put it in a safe place so it won't get lost again.

This has been an on-going story for at least 50 years. In earlier decades we were told the Turkish government was denying access to the mound. That there's an actual archeological team on site, is new. What the truth is...

Noah's flood, or a "great flood" as reported all over the world, probably took place at the end of the ice age starting about 12k years ago during what geologists refer to as Meltwater Pulse(1-4). Not 5k years ago.

The most intriguing find was the propeller-like object found nearby.

From the article, "Although considered a historical event, most scholars and archaeologists do not believe in literally interpreting the Ark story."
This statement is accurate, but is a majority opinion necessarily true? The question of the Ark is also a question of Biblical accuracy. Upon what basis do various opinions rest?
True science is based upon examination of availible information and the attempt to understand it by using reasonable explanations. For a minority opinion including supporting information check out website for Institute for Creation Research (icr.org). Also Ark Encounter site (arkencounter.com).
There are some pretty good reasons for believing the Biblical account is accurate.

#7, It's not just the Biblical account. Over a hundred other cultures around the world have a "great flood" story. And it says nothing about the "truth" of the Bible - there's nothing fantastic or unexpected about cultures around the world putting a spin on a cataclysmic event, but the event certainly did occur.

Remember the same Big Brain Scientists who say that it's ludicrous to say that Noah put two of every animal on board The Ark are the same Big Brain Scientists who believe that 13.7 billion years ago the entire universe consisted of a single point.

The Ark of Noah was literally just a barge. The keel wasn't going to be invented for another few thousand years. There was no "Admiral Noah at the wheel," barking out orders to steer the "S.S. Ark" to its destination. God did all the steering and knew since eternity past precisely where the barge full of critters would come to a rest.

I'll never forget bursting out in laughter - - about 30 years ago - - at the supermarket tabloid paper's headline - -
Noah's Ark Found In Pennsylvania!
That was one of the biggest spontaneous bellylaughs I've ever had.

If this one is real unlike the dozens of previous Noah's Ark finds, perhaps, finally find out what "gopher wood" is.

When I was in Armenia, on a clear day Mr. Ararat was the dominant feature rising to almost 17,000 ft about 35miles away to the SW, but in Turkey. All sorts of stories were told about "my great grandfather's friend" and such who, depending on the story, climbed up and saw the Ark but couldn't get to it due to snow and ice, or got there and it was clearly a big boat with wooden timbers still visible. Lots of old stories. The Armenian version of the old "no sh**, this really happened".....to my great grandfather. Is it possible? Perhaps, but probably not.
And we see - it isn't a big boat, but a pile of rock and dirt shaped somewhat like a boat. I expect that this is a purely geological phenomenon of some sort, but who knows, perhaps it is related to the Ark in some way.

I remember reading about this at least 10 -and probably more like 15- years ago.
The website was 'anchorstone.com'.
I just checked, the site is still there, if any of you fellow L-Dotters care to take a look.
The people on the site believe they are on to something, and it sounds pretty good to me.

Jim on, this story has been kicking around since I was in single digits - and I'm in my 60s. People have claimed this formation is related to Noah's arc longer than that. I recall that very old shaped timbers have been found, there. Part of the problem is that the area was off limits to outsiders till just a few years ago. Any exploration was done on the sly and looking over your shoulder.
