Representative Jim Jordan fell short of the necessary 217 votes to become the next speaker of the House in the first round of voting on Tuesday, as a significant number of moderates within the Republican caucus refused to fall in line behind the hardline Ohio lawmaker.
While Republicans remain divided on Jordan, the Democrats unanimously backed House minority leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.), just as they did when former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R., Calif.) was elected in January.
At the end of the first ballot, Jeffries garnered 212 votes while Jordan received 200 and 20 others voted against the latter. Neither received a majority

I'm getting sick and tired of the Republican Party. Just vote in a Speaker and be done with it. What the hell are they trying to prove? Jim Jordan will be a great Speaker of the House.

Can't say that I've heard of any of these clowns. Seems to be a lot of ethnic diversity among them. Hmmm...

So, when we end up with speaker Jeffries, I hope Gaetz and all the other morons in the party will be really proud of themselves. This is getting beyond embarrassing.

These no votes should be told it's Jordan or the house will be shut down as long as it takes due to their stupidity. Can they just once give the base of Republican voters what they want?

Rep. Mike Kelly (PA) introduced a resolution to allow the House to hold an election of Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC) as Speaker Pro Tempore. This resolution would expand his powers until Nov. 17, 2023 or a new Speaker elected. This would allow the House to move critical legislation, appropriation bills to the floor for consideration.

McCarthy endorsed and voted for Jordan, Zeldin endorsed Jordan, Scalise voted for Jordan, Emmert voted for Jordan, Cole voted for Jordan....WHY did ANY "Repubs" vote for them? Simply voting "Present" as a protest would have sufficed, and the altered rubric of votes needed resulted in the Seat being settled.
This has turned into a "Mean Girls" tizzy fest.

#6, Kay Granger has been in congress forever! No "diversity" there. She's a Bush supporter, so she has to punish Jordan for supporting Trump.

So it will take a few rounds to get Jordan in. So what?

All of this talk about spending too much of the American publics money, blah, blah, blah.... We need to do the work for the American people, blah, blah, blah...
Do you realize you can't do any of that in the Minority Party of the House?
The problems weren't created in just the past couple of Congresses, but are linked to the continuous use of the CR's to keep the government going. Far fewer want to return to General Order either.

Number 7 if Jeffries is elected to the Speakership it won't be the fault of Gaetz, it will be the fault of the RINO's who refused to vote for Jordan. To me ity won't matter much because the day Jeffrries is elected speaker is the day i go to the election board and become an Independent. I refuse to continue with the republicans that hate Trump and hate their constituents.
