In South Carolina, a classroom anti-discrimination
law is working

In response to the racism inherent in Critical Race Theory (“CRT”)—i.e., that blacks are victims and whites are evil—18 states have passed laws prohibiting schools from engaging in race-based teaching. South Carolina was one of those states and, according to a laugh-out-loud funny article in the Washington Post, the law is working. Incidentally, the article isn’t intended to be funny. It is, instead, intended to be a heartrending human interest story about a martyred leftist female teacher who violated the law and got caught. In its general appropriations bill for 2021-2022, the South Carolina legislature, for the first time, inserted a specific clause aimed at blocking leftist-style racism

FTA: "In a classroom decorated with BLM and LGBTQ+ paraphernalia, she told her AP English class to read from Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Between the World and Me, a decidedly CRT piece of racial literature." Surprisingly (no, not really), a Lefty English teacher didn't think the South Carolina state law forbidding the teaching of CRT applied to her. O boy, was she surprised when two of her students reported her. They claimed the assignment made them “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, and "psychological distress” because of their race. One declared, it was like “reading hate propaganda towards white people.” The WaPo did an expose on her martyrdom. It is extremely painful for this poor woman. She is almost frozen from moving forward in any meaningful way. The WaPo describes it, "As gold sunlight filtered into her kitchen, English teacher Mary Wood shouldered a worn leather bag packed with first-day-of-school items...(snip) Everything was ready, but Wood didn’t leave. For the first time since she started teaching 14 years ago, she was scared to go back to school." This precious little snowflake was only told not teach racially divisive material in her classroom. That was it. Apparently there was talk that she could be fired for exposing the school to the loss of state funding, but she did not lose her job. She did however complain that people looked at her funny in the grocery store. (But given that she's a Lefty, that could have been happening before the classroom incident.) The WaPo article goes on and on about the horrible choices teachers like Wood must make. Apparently it is a terrible moral burden for them to abide by the law when it restricts their agenda. They do not know how to handle not getting their way, being told "no". I'm looking forward to inflicting a lot more psychological pain on the commie Left in the coming year. MAGA REVENGE - TRUMP 2024

She should be fired! Leftists don't quit; they find other undercover ways to do their dirt. Get her out of there and teach others a lesson; we know she won't learn anything. Make her an unemployed martyr.

The whole program is a sick joke. No matter what they preach, teach or mandate concerning race, victimhood and equality or lack thereof, they will not be able to change the results of centuries of evolution and varied environments. It is what it is.

I’m of two minds about this. On the one hand, I don’t believe critical race theory has a great deal of validity. Anything that teaches black kids that they’re automatically under the thumb of oppression, and teaches white kids that they are automatically among the oppressors is wrong. Coates’s book (I’ve read it I think it’s a little bit unreasonable) got published, so is a valid artifact representative of its epoch, and at the same time, I don’t know that you can preemptively legislate against any student feeling uncomfortable or distressed by the knowledge they acquire. …Might not be a bad idea for white kids to recognize that Caucasians discriminated against blacks and men discriminated against women in times past; at the same time, is that not the mirror version of teaching, “self-esteem,“ to a cohort of young African-American men, who then go out and rob liquor stores, and hold people up at gunpoint on the street, thinking that no matter what their actions don’t carry any responsibilities because of their “oppression”? Ultimately, it seems to me that these polar opposite perspectives are better suited for college work, when students have had a chance to ingest more points of view, and take these texts in their proper perspective. Finally, the teacher has to follow the laws of her state. In this case, I think the law itself is guilty of a little bit of overreach; however, it’s still her job to adhere to it. It makes me despair how readily the American media and legislatures swing from one insane polarity to the other, without realizing that for most of us, although we love beginnings and endings, our lives are spent mostly in the middle. At last, I don’t think it’s primary or secondary schools’ mission to, “teach race.” They have to teach the acquisition of abstract knowledge, texts, English writing, history and maths. Leave the value judgments alone. Students have the freedom— at least, so far— to decide for themselves the validity of what they learn. https://www.commentarymagazine.com/articles/open-letter-ta-nehisi-coates/

Dave Portnoy has been back in the headlines, and it's for one of the stupidest reasons imaginable. Apparently, holding a pizza festival in New York is a huge scandal. That led The Washington Post to put two reporters on a proposed hit piece. The goal was to pressure pizza shops that were participating to back out by accusing them of supporting sexual misconduct. The fun began when Portnoy caught wind of the coming smear job, though. He called one of the reporters and confronted her, catching her in a lie. When Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy discovered the Washington Post’s Emily Heil had contacted his advertisers and labeled him

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched a savage attack on a federal judge on social media Friday evening, calling U.S. Judge Roger T. Benitez “an extremist, right-wing zealot with no regard to [sic] human life.” Newsom’s post was a reaction to Judge Benitez’s ruling Friday that California’s limit on high-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment — the second time Benitez has ruled against the ban since a partial stay in 2019. Benitez, who was born in Cuba, serves in the Southern District of California and was nominated by George W. Bush. The Los Angeles Times reported: A federal judge for the second time overturned California’s ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines

While announcing the launch of the executive Office of Gun Violence Prevention, President Joe Biden pledged to use the office to “centralize, accelerate, and intensify” his administration’s gun control push. Biden noted that he has chosen Vice President Kamala Harris to oversee the office. A report by the Washington Post makes clear coordination in the office is expected between the “White House, the Community Justice Action Fund and Everytown for Gun Safety.” After Biden announced the launch of the new office on Friday, he then called for an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, and universal background checks. He also called for Congress to take action for more gun restrictions

A federal judge yet again declared California's ban on gun magazines unconstitutional Friday. The ban was first instituted in a 2000 measure signed into law by then-Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, and prohibited state residents from buying or selling magazines that hold 10 or more rounds. U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez struck it down after previously striking it in 2019. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Benitez's ruling in 2021, arguing that the ban fell in line with the state's efforts to reduce gun violence and is compatible with the Second Amendment. Then, the Supreme Court vacated the appeals court ruling and ordered new proceedings consistent

About 6 in 10 New Hampshire residents, 62%, say they would be dissatisfied or worse if Trump retook the presidency – with most, 56%, expressing outright anger at the prospect. The US-Saudi relationship soured when President Joe Biden took office, and now Biden’s reelection prospects may suffer, too. Back on Nov. 21, 2018, just two weeks after the midterm elections, then-President Donald Trump celebrated recent declines in the global oil price with a tweet, ending with: “Thank you to Saudi Arabia, but let’s go lower.” About six weeks earlier, the West Texas Intermediate oil price had peaked at $76.40 per barrel. By Nov. 6, when American voters took to the polls, it was at $61.69 — a fall of around 24% in only a month.
