California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) launched a savage attack on a federal judge on social media Friday evening, calling U.S. Judge Roger T. Benitez “an extremist, right-wing zealot with no regard to [sic] human life.”
Newsom’s post was a reaction to Judge Benitez’s ruling Friday that California’s limit on high-capacity magazines violates the Second Amendment — the second time Benitez has ruled against the ban since a partial stay in 2019.
Benitez, who was born in Cuba, serves in the Southern District of California and was nominated by George W. Bush.
The Los Angeles Times reported:
A federal judge for the second time overturned California’s ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines

Coming from Mr. "I never saw an abortion I didn't approve of", this is almost funny.

How many human lives have been aborted during your time in office, governor? I’m guessing that the number is many hundreds of tines higher than the number of people who have been killed with guns.

But Governor Greasy, if we replace "right" with "left" in your diatribe, it would apply to Judges who rule in favor of abortion.

FTA: "...an extremist, right-wing zealot with no regard to [sic] human life."
Replace 'right-' with 'left-' and now the statement pretty much sums up Gavin. Typical of the left. They always project. They (including Newsom) can't help themselves.
BTW, what's the running odds now that this man will replace Biden on the ballot?

A large mag for an AR-15 variant is anything more than the standard 25. For a Glock 17 the standard is 17 rounds. Anything less than standard is reduced capacity.
I believe that Gavin operates with reduced capacity.

First, from a guy who loves murdering babies in the womb....this shows an incredible lack of self-awareness to even say in public.
But this is a bigger, more complex, and more national issue. We are heading to California in a few days, driving, and I always take a gun....I was thinking of taking one with a 15 round magazine this trip, but even though it would have to be unloaded and locked a case, locked in the trunk to be legal in the car in California, this magazine ban makes it a crime to posses the mag....so I've selected a gun with a 7 round magazine
instead.
This NORMAL capacity magazine ban has been found unconstitutional several years ago, before the Supreme Court's sweeping Bruen ruling. And then the Ninth Circuit did their usual legal but twisted "we'll rule enbanc and override this judge" trick. Except after the enbanc override of the first judge's correct ruling, the gun rights organization appealed to SCOTUS.
Since it was now years later, and after the SCOTUS' Bruen ruling, which required "adherence to the strict language of the Amendment" and Bruen further requires that any "balancing of state interests" (an often used ploy to violate the clear language of any Amendment) MUST show a "historic precedent of similar regulations" at the time of the writing of the 2nd Amendment. Since there were literally NO historic restrictions on guns whatsoever at that time, this is a guarantee that no "balancing" BS can override the plain language of the Amendment.
So, SCOTUS vacated the Ninth's finding that the mag ban was constitutional, and remanded it back to the lower courts with what is the legal equivalent "OK, you screwed this up, no go back and do it over again, and this time get it right, in view of our Bruen ruling."
The mag ban is toast....and this will apply everywhere, eventually, killing ALL mag bans. And I can't see any way that all the "assault weapon bans" won't be going the same way, for exactly the same reasons. But those will have to wait for their own cases, and will take time to work through the courts.
SCOTUS' Bruen ruling requires following the plain language of the 2nd Amendment, and "the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" is pretty clear, unambiguous and pretty sweeping. I don't see how ANY gun laws will not ultimately be seen as clear infringements, including requirements for background checks before purchasing a gun.
Imagine if a journalist had to undergo a background check by the FBI before he could post each story online.
Ridiculous you say.
As patently ridiculous as this is, it is OBVIOUSLY a violation of the First Amendment, how does that not exactly apply to the Second Amendment? A constitutional RIGHT cannot be restricted this way, and the courts have called this, in other situations, "impermissible prior restraint" of a Constitutional right.
IMO, ALL gun control laws will be eventually stricken as unconstitutional, one by one, as they come up against the Bruen ruling which requires the laws to comport with the plain language of the 2nd Amendment which was INTENDED to block ALL laws restricting gun ownership and "bearing" of guns.

Looks like E. Jean Carroll’s defamation suit against Trump except more so because the judge had not blackmailed Gavin.

Re #8....uh, there is NO 25 round magazines for AR-15s. Originals in 60s were 20 rounds, and now the most common are 30 round. There are some 60 and 100 round magazines, but they are relatively rare and expensive.
AFAIK, no one has ever made a 25 round magazine for an AR.
