The grandson of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former first lady Rosalynn has revealed that the couple are at peace after he was moved into hospice care. Josh Carter told People that the loving couple were always the 'entertainers' but now things are quieter but they're both still very much in love and 'holding hands.' Jimmy Carter ceased medical intervention on Feb 18 aged 98 and entered hospice care at his home in Plains, Georgia to 'spend his remaining time at home with his family.' Three months later it was revealed Rosalynn, 96, has dementia.

Although he was not a good President, he is a good man. He doesn’t hate his country, and he has loved his wife a very long time. Best wishes and peace to both of them.

It’s bad form to speak ill of the dead, so I’ll do it while he’s still alive.... He’s no longer the worst president of my lifetime; Clinton, Obama and Biden beat him out. I’ve often said Carter’s biggest problem in office was not that he didn’t know crap from Shinola; his problem was that he didn’t know that he didn’t know. He was a Pollyanna where foreign policy was concerned. He created the Department of Energy to lessen our use of foreign oil; instead, it increased. He created the Department of Education; now, all of our kids are dumber. He supposedly ran a successful business, yet had no grasp of economics. What I remember about the 70’s was bad haircuts, odd-looking clothes, mediocre music, terrible cars, and Jimmy Carter’s deservedly short presidency. I was real glad to see 1980 arrive. Adios, Jimmah. I won’t miss you.

Not feeling generous about this one. This man single-handedly set the Middle East on fire with his deluded and disastrous Iraq policy and also did great, great damage to our military including to its reputation, equipment and morale. I did not then nor do I now believe he was a good man although he made a great show of being holier-than-thou. My husband went to USNA like Carter and also like Carter went into nuclear subs. However, unlike Carter he served under the Carter administration and was so disillusioned that, although he graduated with intentions of a naval career, he left the Navy altogether at the first opportunity as did many of his shipmates. Enlistment, commissions and retention were so low that the qualified officers on SSN’s in port had to stand duty every other night, year after year. Both wardrooms and sailors were exhausted and embittered by serving under the brilliant but nasty and tyrannical Adm. Rickover and this indifferent fool of a President. Jimmy Carter was a career politician who was in over his head and did more than anyone prior to him to embolden America’s enemies. If he were a good man he would have had enough humility to recognize his innumerable shortcomings and would have stayed in Georgia. IMHO, the author’s last name describes him perfectly: when you need an a**hole look for Carter.

Jimmah may have had some good intentions but his political instincts were usually terrible. When the Iranian hostage crisis stared in 1979 he insisted that the lights on the national Christmas tree be kept dark expect for a little star on top - until they were released. The tree became a constant reminder of the hostages and the Ayatollah's sway instead of a symbol of Christmas joy. Then the crisis dragged on so long another Christmas came around. But by then he was packing his bags to make way for Reagan.

Say what you will, he was a terrible Governor and a worse President, but they were a loving couple and nothing like what the Dems are promoting as "standards of American life. Carter is not dead. When he is dead I will shut up for an appropriate period. Jimmie Carter is not a good man. He is solely responsible for the dem party being the party of abortion and the culture of death that has consumed our Country. He invented the "personally opposed, politically pro choice" position. And that bit of hellspeak became an immutable plank in the dem party. And he did it with a Bible in his hand, singing in the church choir. Note well: ANY dem they ran woulda won the '76 election against Nixon's legacy. Three tiny years after Roe, Jimmie Carter defined the aisles in the culture war and imbedded the "pro choice" doublespeak into the vernacular, wiping critical thought from the landscape of debate. You are eating the sandwich made of that shtuff now, as huge numbers of people are incapable of thinking critically and believe they can "Chose" their sex. He drew these battle lines. He did it for a little short term power. Good luck, to Jimmie. I hope he has a repentant heart.

Re #12, IIRC, the 55 mph speed limit was inflicted under Nixon after the '73 oil shock. It was always a stupid idea, and I was SO glad when we regained our sanity many years later. That said....I once averaged 74 mph from KC to central Virginia in a straight through drive during the 55 mph speed limit. And to average 74 you cannot drive 74 as a normal cruising speed, I suspect you are aware. This included all fuel, food and potty breaks, too. CB radios and radar detectors were involved.
