Christie: Social Security, Medicare cuts
are a necessary ‘political risk’ in
today’s economy

Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) said it’s time to take a “political risk” and consider changes to Social Security and Medicare benefits for young people. Changes to the programs are necessary, or they could run out of money for everyone in about a decade as the country faces a rising national debt, the presidential candidate said. “The most disgusting part of Joe Biden’s State of the Union address this year was when he stood up, and he said, ‘We’ll all agree, right? We’re not going to do anything to Social Security?’

So the hard-earned money that taxpayers put into the system is the first to be changed. How about they look at the out-of-control spending going on? Spending that is going on in all aspects of government. . .

Amen, #2 and 5. People had money confiscated all their lives. They deserve it returned as the system was designed to do. Billions upon billions are available (if not, they print it) for wars, Greed Energy, assistance for illegal aliens, and many other immoral things. The Fed needs to do right by us.

Along with massively increased subsidies for "green energy," higher gasoline/oil taxes, decreased petroleum/gas/oil production, higher income tax rates on the middle class and most of all, continued importation and subsidization of migrant invaders from every third world country on the face of the globe. Yeah, that's a winning platform right there.

Fix for SS: - Exempt first dollars taxed, up to a living wage, say 30 grand. then lower the rate of SS tax, but apply it to EVERY dollar earned above that. Eliminate benefits paid to those with net worths above - say 10 mil. Non-citizens ineligible, but may collect their own SS from their home country tax-free.

If the cuts occur with the under-65 set and return to what social security and medicare were originally designed for, to help those who paid into the system for their entire working lives then I'm all for it. It's much too easy for young people to receive those benefits for a continuation of their useless, parasitic lives and drain money away that was not meant for them. I personally know one of those parasites who claimed in his thirties that he had to quit driving a truck due to back pain but jumps on his Harley Davidson quite often to cruise the bars. Since this is the dishonest Jersey Whale talking, the first to lose benefits would be seniors.

I did a project in college nearly 25 years ago on the social security issue. First, there is no accumulated sums earning interest, only the "principle" that was taken out of your paycheck Second, back then, most would exhaust all they contributed within 4 1/2 and 5 years time (mostly contributions from salary levels from the 1940's, 50's, 60's). It's likely a few more years today but not likely too many more as payments are higher. Third, they should have adjusted the early withdraw from 62 to 64 when they increased the full retirement amount to 67(all born after 1960). It would not save the program, but would have helped reduce the number of people who take their payments early (about 30% reduction) most of whom need the higher amount by the time they reach 72-75 especially.

You don't have to cut anything. Those benefits were bought and paid for by the people who actually worked and paid into those programs. The problems with social security medicare benefits is that checks are being sent to people who have never paid a dime into the programs. For years politicians have raided those programs and have given payments to people who never deserved it. Again, taxpayer money being used against us. They stole our money and benefits. Pathetic and appalling

Thank you # 35, for bringing some good sense to this thread. Congress will never - under any president - make the changes needed to keep SS and Medicare afloat. And that is because the American people themselves stubbornly refuse to face reality. Many of the posts on this thread attest to just that. "What about welfare?" " What about foreign aid?" "What about this and that?" they all cry. Well, none of those things has anything to do with SS or Medicare, and will never be considered in conjunction with them. Every program on the federal ledger has a politically powerful - and protective - constituency. We are just going to have to pay the piper when the time comes. It won't be a purty sight.

Exactly correct, #35, and I did similar research, which is why my wife and I planned our retirements from the beginning to be comfortable even if SS wasn't there. I expect it to be 'means tested' away at some point. Not destitute? No SS for you! If so, we'll still be OK financially.

Most people will get everything they put into SS within 7 years. After that they are dispensing money coming in from people still working. So it is not sustainable in it’s present form in the long term. Christie is a fool. There is plenty of money being spent on useless wars and lots of unnecessary BS. The people managing the money, mainly Congress, are not making these programs a priority and they won’t until it’s on the brink and threatening their re-election. That’s why Trump is so popular. He has the guts to call this out for what it is.

Does anybody remember a time when they weren't saying the national debt was going to cripple the U.S. economy? It's all a fiat system, and it will continue as designed so long as the central banking entity that runs the world wants to control our lives. This is just the part where they try to scare us every election cycle about SS going bankrupt to keep us under control. The End.

That all Republicans should first stop giving in to the media and other Democrats by calling limits on abortion a "ban" on abortion. Six-, 13-, 15-, or 20-week limits on abortions are not bans any more than moving pornographic books out of children’s sections in libraries is a "ban."It appears that many people are giving Nikki Haley high marks for the debate because she appeared moderate and reasonable and willing to work with Democrats

Despite years of Biden family and media disinformation, we are finally learning that President Joe Biden really did fire Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin for looking into state corruption involving the oil company Burisma and Hunter Biden -- and ultimately Joe Biden himself. As vice president, Biden, in his own words, bragged that he had threatened to cancel the deliverance of American foreign aid to Ukraine unless Shokin was dismissed. So what is Congress to do now -- un-impeach and exonerate an innocent impeached Donald Trump, and instead impeach a guilty Biden for essentially the same allegations?

Thanks for joining today’s study. I was inspired to write “What Jesus Says About Worrying” while watching an episode of “The Chosen” Season Three, where Jesus quotes from Matthew 6:25-34. However, “inspired to write” is an understatement. Hammer on the head is more accurate since God knows my Jewish mother was a worrier — an Olympic gold-medal team member. I once bought her a decorative pillow with a Hebrew-like typeface that read, “Call your mother - she worries.” That proved the Jewish mother’s “worry gene” is pervasive enough to be branded on merchandise. The new status grants him extra powers to broaden his inquiries – potentially into other states beyond his current patch as US attorney in Delaware.

The parents sought an injunction before the first day of school on August 28 after the district changed its policies in March to no longer allow parents to opt their children out of being assigned books that advocate pride parades, gender transitioning, and pronoun preferences for kids as young as pre-kindergarten.

Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has defended a Soros scholarship he accepted, claiming it came at a time when he “didn’t have the money” to pay for Yale Law School. But there is one problem with that argument. According to reports, the entrepreneur was already a multi-millionaire when he took it. "There was a separate scholarship that I won at the age of 24-25, when I was going to law school in my mid-20s, in my early 20s, when I didn't have the money and it was a merit scholarship that hundreds of kids win, that was partially funded, not by George Soros, but by Paul Soros a relative,

The Republican Party was running ads on Twitter-X on Thursday night begging for donations. (Snip) This worthless group of clueless RINOs said NOTHING when President Trump was indicted and arrested on bogus criminal charges the past six months. On Thursday night President Trump was arrested on 13 more bogus charges. President Trump’s only crime was speaking out against the stolen 2020 election. And now the Marxists have arrested the most popular sitting president in history with 91 felony charges. If the leftist courts convict President Trump for unapproved speech,

Elon Musk’s company Space X has been sued by the Justice Department because the billionaire refused to hire asylum seekers and illegal immigrants. “The lawsuit alleges that, from at least September 2018 to May 2022, SpaceX routinely discouraged asylees and refugees from applying and refused to hire or consider them, because of their citizenship status, in violation of the Immigration and Nationality Act,” the Justice Department said in a statement.DoJ says that Space X wrongly claimed in its advertisements and online postings that the company could only hire U.S. citizens and green card holders because

STORY: "It is the Fed’s job to bring inflation down to our 2% goal, and we will do so," Jerome Powell on Friday delivered an assessment that many may not have wanted to hear: The Federal Reserve may not be finished hiking interest rates. Speaking at the annual Jackson Hole Economy Policy Symposium in picturesque Wyoming, the Fed chairman said that as long as interest rates remained above the central bank's target 2 percent, the fight wasn't over. However, he promised to proceed "carefully." "Although inflation has moved down from its peak -- a welcome development -- it remains too high. We are prepared to raise rates further if appropriate, and

Leftist politicians rarely tell the truth. Their policies and ideals are so bad that they can't, and they know it, thus the nonstop hyperbole, grandstanding, and projection. It's infuriating that so many Americans either are unable to see this, thanks in part to a complicit MSM, or so blinded by their ideology that they choose to ignore the fact that they get endlessly played by those they keep electing. As with any good totalitarian leftist regime, gun confiscation is at the top of the leftist wish list. It's much easier to institute control and compliance over an unarmed citizenry than it is an armed one.

A family is desperately seeking answers after FBI agents busted down the door and killed their relative in a pre-dawn raid last week. The FBI is refusing to tell a grieving mother why they showed up in armored vehicles at 6 am last Wednesday and fatally shot her son. According to WBBJ, FBI agents showed up at a residence in Henderson, Tennessee to serve a man named Theodore Deschler an arrest warrant when things turned deadly. A neighbor told WBBJ he woke up at 6 am after he heard a loud bang.
